One Piece fans
Fans are the clearest audience. The game builds its adventure around familiar characters and an original story rooted in the series’ canon, giving longtime followers more reason to care about its world and cast. Bandai Namco describes it as a JRPG with an original story in the One Piece universe on its official product page.
Players who enjoy traditional JRPGs
If turn-based battles and established RPG conventions are part of the appeal, Odyssey’s familiar structure may suit you. If you are hoping for a modernized combat system or tightly paced progression, the criticisms of dated conventions and pacing are worth taking seriously.

Newcomers to One Piece
The story’s connection to an established franchise can make the characters and setting less immediately accessible if you have little familiarity with One Piece. The game does offer an original story, but the review evidence does not establish it as an ideal first introduction to the series.
Is the Switch Deluxe Edition worth it?
It is the clearest choice if you want to play portably and value the included scenario and costume sets. Nintendo lists the Switch Deluxe Edition’s release date as July 26, 2024, and includes the base game, Reunion of Memories additional scenario, Traveling Outfit Set, Sniper King Outfit Set and City of Water Outfit Set. Bandai Namco’s edition information distinguishes the Switch outfit-set bundle from the PlayStation, Xbox and Steam listings, so compare the contents for your platform rather than assuming every Deluxe Edition is the same. The game is listed for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S as well as Switch; Bandai Namco’s European product page and US product page provide platform and edition information.
What to expect from the Switch port
Switch critics found a worthwhile One Piece adventure, but portability comes with technical trade-offs. Metacritic displayed a 73 score from just seven critic reviews for the Switch Deluxe Edition when checked on October 8, 2026, a small sample that should not be treated as a broad consensus. GamingTrend’s review excerpt described a solid port that looked good and ran fairly well docked and handheld, while warning that loading before battles could become tedious. Choose the Switch version for portability and its particular bundle of extras if you are comfortable with those caveats. If you prioritize loading and presentation over handheld play, compare the version available on your other platform; the evidence here does not establish that one platform is categorically better for every player.
