For a OneStream Live 24/7 YouTube stream, choose your settings based on the path the video takes. OneStream’s recommended uploaded source file is 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 video at 1,500–6,000 Kbps, and AAC audio at 128 Kbps. Those are source-video recommendations—not YouTube’s separate settings for a local encoder sending a live feed. For direct H.264 encoder ingest, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30.
Choose settings for the workflow you are using
With OneStream’s managed pre-recorded workflow, you upload or select stored videos and schedule them for playback. YouTube’s encoder table, by contrast, describes a live signal sent directly from an encoder to YouTube. The figures serve different purposes and should not be treated as competing recommendations for the same step.
- OneStream stored video: prepare the uploaded source file using OneStream’s recommendations below.
- Direct encoder to YouTube: use YouTube’s encoder guidance for the outgoing live feed. This is relevant to a local encoder workflow, not automatically to a file uploaded to OneStream.
Recommended source-video settings for OneStream
OneStream Live’s video-settings guide, updated September 8, 2026, recommends the following general source-video settings. It does not specify a separate bitrate profile just for 24/7 playback.
| Setting | OneStream source-video guidance |
|---|---|
| Container | MP4, MOV, or M4V |
| Resolution | 1920 × 1080 (1080p) |
| Frame rate | 30 fps |
| Video codec | H.264 |
| Video bitrate | 1,500–6,000 Kbps |
| Audio codec | AAC |
| Audio bitrate | 128 Kbps |
| Video length | At least one minute for the best streaming experience, according to OneStream |
These are file-preparation recommendations, not a promise of a particular delivered picture quality or uninterrupted playback. If the source is already encoded, check its properties before re-encoding; avoid changing it unnecessarily if it already fits the supported format and recommended range.

YouTube bitrate settings for a direct encoder stream
If you are sending a live feed from an encoder directly to YouTube, YouTube’s current H.264 table recommends these video bitrates by output resolution and frame rate. The rates below are for video; YouTube separately recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio.
| Output | H.264 video bitrate recommended by YouTube |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 4 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 15 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 24 Mbps |
| 2160p30 | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p60 | 35 Mbps |
YouTube’s table gives AV1 and H.265/HEVC minimum-to-maximum ranges rather than the same H.264 recommended column. For the resolutions and frame rates listed in that table:

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
| Output | AV1 or H.265/HEVC video bitrate range |
|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 3–8 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 4–10 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 5–25 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 6–30 Mbps |
| 2160p30 | 8–35 Mbps |
| 2160p60 | 10–40 Mbps |
Do not substitute these direct-encoder numbers for OneStream’s stored-video bitrate range. The file you upload and the live encoder signal are different parts of different workflows.
Resolution: what should a 24/7 stream use?
For a video uploaded to OneStream, its general recommendation is 1080p at 30 fps. For direct YouTube encoder output, choose an output the source and connection can sustain: YouTube lists recommendations through 2160p60, but a higher resolution is not automatically the better operational choice. A stable stream at a resolution your connection can maintain is more useful than selecting a demanding output that causes congestion.

YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live streams into formats suited to different devices and network conditions. That does not remove the need to send a stable signal from an encoder, nor does it change OneStream’s source-file guidance.
Encoder settings that apply to direct YouTube ingest
For a local encoder sending directly to YouTube, its current guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS transport, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, and up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. RTMPS is recommended for encrypted transport. Supported audio codecs listed are AAC and MP3, with 128 Kbps guidance for stereo audio.

These are encoder-ingest settings. They are not a checklist to apply wholesale to a video merely uploaded to OneStream for managed pre-recorded playback.

Connection planning and stream checks
The upload-bandwidth guidance matters when using a local encoder to send a live feed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom for other network traffic and using a reliable connection. For example, if your encoder’s video and audio together require a sustained upload rate, the available upload capacity should exceed that total rather than merely matching it. Headroom can reduce avoidable congestion risk, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
- Test before going live using representative motion and audio, as YouTube recommends.
- Monitor stream health and any messages shown in YouTube while the encoder is live.
- For a local encoder, a wired connection may be a practical alternative to Wi-Fi when diagnosing instability; it is not a YouTube requirement.
Copyright and content checks for continuous playback
Before scheduling a long-running stream, confirm that you have the rights needed for every video and its audio, including music, footage, and other embedded material. A video’s availability as an upload does not itself establish that it is cleared for continuous public streaming. Review YouTube’s current live-stream and channel rules for your situation, and remove or replace material if you do not have the necessary rights. Neither a bitrate setting nor a streaming service grants content rights.
Common settings and playback problems
- Unclear which bitrate to use: identify whether you are preparing a stored OneStream source file or configuring a direct encoder. Use the relevant table above rather than mixing their numbers.
- Encoder stream health is unstable: check that the chosen output fits the connection’s sustained upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom, and test with representative audio and motion.
- Unexpected quality after upload: inspect the source file’s resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate against OneStream’s file guidance. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams for different devices and networks, so the viewer’s playback rendition may differ from the incoming signal.
- 24/7 scheduling option is unavailable: OneStream documents the feature as Enterprise-only and YouTube-only; verify that the account and destination meet those conditions.
- Schedule exceeds the allowed period: OneStream’s guide states a maximum scheduled duration of 30 days. Set a shorter period if the planned broadcast runs beyond that limit.
