Backgammon.com currently publishes the most specific recent verification claims among the apps compared here: it reports a Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) test of its random-number generator (RNG) in July 2026 and a World Backgammon Federation (WBGF) code review in August 2026. Backgammon Galaxy says it uses a cryptographically secure RNG and displays dice statistics on player profiles. Backgammon NJ documents reproducible seeded rolls, match files, roll swapping and manual dice entry. Those are different kinds of evidence, not a single fairness score.
No common, independent test comparing all three services establishes that one app is objectively fairest. The useful question is what each provider lets you verify, who performed the verification, how recent it is and what the evidence actually covers.

What “transparent dice” should mean
In an online backgammon app, transparency is more than a statement that rolls are random. A meaningful comparison separates four questions:

- How is the roll generated? The provider may describe an RNG, its entropy source or how often it is called.
- Has anyone outside the operator examined it? A laboratory test, a federation code review and an operator’s own description are separate evidence categories.
- Can a player inspect what happened? Statistics, exported match records, replay tools, seeds and manual entry make different parts of a game visible.
- What is the scope? A test of an RNG algorithm may not cover the complete live application, server deployment, matchmaking or every online game mode.
Randomness also has a counterintuitive property: a fair sequence can contain doubles, repeated high numbers and long stretches that look “hot” or “cold.” Memorable losses are not an audit. Conversely, the phrase “cryptographically secure” is a technical description, not proof that every production component is correctly implemented.

Backgammon.com: the strongest published external-verification trail
What the operator says about generation
Backgammon.com’s Fair Dice page says rolls are generated on its servers with a cryptographically secure RNG. It says the generator draws from the operating system’s entropy source, operates independently of game state and is invoked separately when a roll is made. The page also acknowledges that genuinely random sequences can produce striking streaks.
The service describes its technology as “the same class of technology used to create the encryption keys that protect online banking.” That is the operator’s analogy, not an independent technical finding. It helps explain the intended security class, but it should not be read as a guarantee about the whole application.
GLI test reported for July 2026
The same page says Gaming Laboratories International tested the RNG behind every roll in July 2026 and certified it to standards used in highly regulated jurisdictions. This is the most substantial outside-laboratory claim in the comparison, but it remains a claim and document published by the service being discussed. No current official publication of the actual GLI certificate was available, so the exact test methods, deployment boundaries, statistical batteries and continuing-monitoring obligations should not be inferred.

An RNG test generally addresses the behavior of the generator under the test conditions. It does not automatically certify the user interface, networking, game-state handling, account security or matchmaking. Nor does it establish that every regional deployment is identical unless the certificate says so.
WBGF code review and validity
Backgammon.com’s WBGF certification page says the federation performed due diligence on the dice code in August 2026 and concluded that the algorithm was sufficiently strong for generating backgammon dice. The page dates the certificate August 21, 2026 and states that it remains valid for one year, until August 21, 2027.
This is a different evidence type from the GLI report. A code review examines the algorithm or implementation that was presented to the reviewer; it is not the same as a laboratory’s statistical test of an RNG, and neither is a universal guarantee of live-service behavior. Still, a dated review with a stated validity period gives players more to inspect than an undated “our dice are fair” promise.
How to interpret its overall evidence
- Best fit: players whose first priority is recent, named external involvement.
- Strength: two distinct published claims—a laboratory RNG test and a federation review—with dates.
- Limitation: the evidence is operator-published, and a like-for-like independent comparison with Galaxy and NJ is not available.
- Player control gap: the cited material does not describe a user-visible seed or a cryptographic proof for each individual roll.

What Galaxy documents
Backgammon Galaxy’s official support article, modified May 20, 2025, states: “We use a high-quality, cryptographically secure Random Number Generator (RNG) for all dice rolls.” That is a clear description of the provider’s intended mechanism and scope—dice rolls—but it is not accompanied in the cited article by a named external laboratory, a federation review or a public certification.

The service also provides dice statistics on player profiles. These statistics can help a player examine a history of recorded outcomes rather than relying only on memory. They are useful visibility, but they do not independently verify the generator, prove that the sample is complete or demonstrate that the implementation has been audited.
What the claim can and cannot answer
Galaxy’s wording addresses the choice of RNG technology. It does not, on the cited evidence, answer whether the online client, server code, deployment process or logging system has been reviewed by an outside party. A cryptographically secure design can still be misconfigured; profile-level counts can still be incomplete or difficult to reproduce without underlying records.
Galaxy may suit players who value a straightforward operator assurance and an at-a-glance statistical record. Players who require a dated certificate or a publicly documented replay protocol will find less independently verifiable detail in the cited support material.
Backgammon NJ: the most explicit reproducibility controls
Seeded roll lists and next-roll numbers
NJ Software documents an RNG seed that determines a reproducible list of rolls. A next-roll number identifies the current position in that list. With those two pieces of information, the documented workflow can recreate the same sequence for analysis.
Reproducibility answers a practical question: “Can I and another person see the same rolls again?” It does not automatically answer the separate question: “Was the seed generated fairly, kept secret at the right time or used identically in every online multiplayer session?”
Replay and match-file tools
The app’s help material documents replaying positions with the same rolls and saving or viewing match files. It also describes swapping the opening rolls so a game can be replayed with the players’ rolls exchanged. These features are valuable when reviewing a close game, checking a decision or separating dice outcomes from strategic mistakes.
Manual and preprinted rolls
A separate developer page describes printing rolls in advance, entering physical rolls manually and comparing a match after exchanging rolls with the computer. Manual entry provides a direct alternative when players want to use physical dice. Preprinted rolls can support controlled practice or analysis, because the sequence is available before play rather than being generated invisibly during each turn.

Limits of this approach
- The documentation is self-published by the developer.
- Seeded replay and manual entry are inspection features, not evidence of an independent online RNG audit.
- A reproducible AI or local session should not be treated as proof that the live multiplayer server uses the same generator, seed-handling rules or deployment.
NJ is therefore the strongest fit for a player who values examining and replaying rolls, even if that player does not receive a third-party certification.
How the evidence categories differ

If outside verification matters most
Start with Backgammon.com’s dated, operator-published GLI and WBGF claims. Check the certificate language, covered product and validity dates before treating the evidence as broader than the pages state. As of the dates published, the WBGF certificate is described as current through August 21, 2027.
If you want to replay and investigate games
Backgammon NJ offers the clearest documented toolkit: seeds, next-roll positions, match files, roll swapping and manual entry. That makes it practical for post-game analysis and AI comparisons. Keep the scope narrow: these controls show what can be reproduced in the documented workflows, not that all online dice have been independently certified.
If you want a simple public record
Backgammon Galaxy’s profile dice statistics provide a convenient starting point for reviewing recorded outcomes. Pair them with a realistic understanding of sample size and streaks; a profile summary is not an audit report.

- Identify the exact claim. Is it about an RNG algorithm, a particular server deployment, every roll, or only a local game mode?
- Record who made the assessment. Label it as operator-published, user-reproducible, federation-reviewed or laboratory-tested.
- Check the date and validity. Certifications and software behavior can change. Preserve the stated issue and expiry dates.
- Look for the inspection path. Can you view match files, replay a sequence, obtain a seed or enter physical rolls?
- Separate randomness from other concerns. Dice evidence does not prove that opponents are human, bots are absent or matchmaking is balanced.
- Do not diagnose bias from anecdotes. Track a large, complete record before drawing statistical conclusions, and remember that streaks occur in fair sequences.
Digital transparency versus physical dice
Some players prefer to remove digital generation from practice sessions altogether. Backgammon Galaxy’s official site lists “Elite” Precision Dice and other physical backgammon equipment, including boards, checkers and doubling cubes. Physical dice create a manual alternative for over-the-board play or for an app that supports manual entry; they do not make an app’s server-generated rolls more transparent.
When using physical rolls with software, agree in advance who enters them, retain the match record and check that the app’s manual-entry mode does not silently substitute generated results. NJ’s documented manual-entry workflow is relevant for this use case.

What none of these comparisons can prove
The available evidence does not establish a shared independent benchmark, a universal fairness ranking or a guarantee that every game in every region uses an unchanged implementation. The most defensible conclusion is narrower: Backgammon.com publishes the most specific recent external-verification evidence in this group; Backgammon NJ publishes the most detailed reproducibility and manual-inspection controls; and Backgammon Galaxy publishes a cryptographically secure RNG claim plus profile statistics, without a named external review in the cited support article. Choose according to whether you value third-party documentation, replayable records or a simple statistical view, and judge each claim only within its documented scope.

Does a cryptographically secure RNG guarantee fair backgammon dice?
No. It describes the intended security properties of the generator. Fairness also depends on correct implementation, deployment, roll handling and complete records; the cited Galaxy statement does not document an external audit of those elements.
