Yes, Order of the Sinking Star is Steam Deck Verified. The developer says its controls and interface are optimized for handheld play. It is a single-player puzzle adventure, not a co-op or online multiplayer game. The Steam edition lists Steam Cloud, while the Nintendo Switch 2 edition lists Save Data Cloud for Nintendo Switch Online members. Those are separate platform services: the official listings do not confirm that a save can move between Steam, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5.
Order of the Sinking Star is a puzzle adventure from Thekla, Inc., with more than 1,000 hand-crafted puzzles across four worlds. Its design supports player-directed pacing: the Steam description says you can explore at your own pace, revisit worlds, and return to challenges when you choose. That makes hardware compatibility and dependable saves especially important for players who expect to switch between a desktop, a handheld, and a television console.

Is Order of the Sinking Star Steam Deck compatible?
Yes. On September 15, 2026, the developer announced that Order of the Sinking Star had received Steam Deck Verified status. The announcement specifically points to controls and an interface optimized for handheld play: the developer’s Steam Deck Verified announcement.

It does not establish a particular frame rate, battery life, loading time, or performance result for every Deck model. No hands-on performance measurement should be inferred from the Verified label.

What Verified means for a Deck player
- The developer says the game’s controls were optimized for handheld use.
- The developer says the user interface was adapted for a handheld screen.
- You can treat a Steam Deck as an intended way to play the Steam version, rather than an unsupported experiment.
- The game does not require a Steam Deck; the same Steam purchase is also playable on a compatible PC.
The game’s puzzle structure also suits portable sessions. Steam describes more than one thousand hand-crafted puzzles, four worlds, and pacing that lets you revisit areas and challenges. Those design details explain why a player might want to move the same Steam installation between a desktop and a Deck, but they do not prove that a save can move to a different console ecosystem.
Does Order of the Sinking Star have multiplayer or co-op?
No multiplayer mode is advertised in the official store information reviewed for this game. Steam marks Order of the Sinking Star as Single-player. Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing specifies one player on a single system. Based on those platform listings, you should buy it as a solo puzzle adventure rather than a game with online co-op, local co-op, competitive play, or a shared campaign.
The one-player designation is important even if you plan to play in the same room as someone else. Another person can watch, discuss solutions, or take turns using the controller, but the listings do not describe a second-player slot, a co-op campaign, or an online session browser. There is likewise no official indication that a second account can join your progress.

What save options does the Steam version provide?
The Steam store page lists Steam Cloud for Order of the Sinking Star. That indicates cloud support for the Steam edition, so Steam can associate the game’s supported save data with your Steam account and make it available through Steam’s cloud system.
Steam Cloud should be read as a Steam-platform feature. The store listing does not describe a manual export/import procedure, a shared save format, or a bridge to Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud. It also does not promise that a save made on Steam Deck will appear on Switch 2 or PlayStation 5. Steam Cloud can help you continue the Steam version on another compatible Steam installation; it is not evidence of cross-progression.
Practical checks before changing Steam devices
- Install or launch the game through the same Steam account that owns it.
- On the game’s Steam properties and storage screens, confirm that Steam Cloud is enabled for the title and that Steam has finished synchronizing before you close the game.
- After playing on a Deck, allow the device to reconnect and complete its Steam synchronization before shutting it down or starting the game on another computer.
- If Steam reports a conflict between local and cloud files, stop and read the timestamps and device names before choosing a version. Selecting the wrong copy can replace the progress you meant to keep.
These checks address continuity within Steam. They do not create a supported route to a Switch 2 or PlayStation save, because no such route is documented in the official game and platform listings.

What save options does the Nintendo Switch 2 version provide?
Nintendo’s US product page lists Save Data Cloud for the Switch 2 edition and states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. The listing is here: Nintendo’s Switch 2 page for Order of the Sinking Star.
Nintendo’s general support information explains that Save Data Cloud backs up compatible games’ saves through a Nintendo Account and lets eligible members access those backups on compatible consoles. The service information is described in Nintendo’s Switch Online save-data FAQ. For this game, the title-specific fact is that Nintendo lists Save Data Cloud and requires the membership; the general service page explains how Nintendo’s backup system works.
Important Switch 2 limitations
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for the listed cloud-backup feature.
- The backup applies to compatible Nintendo games through the Nintendo Account used on the console.
- Nintendo says local save-data backups are not currently supported on Switch 2 or Switch. That is different from the online Save Data Cloud service.
- The Nintendo listing does not say that its cloud copy can be read by Steam, Steam Deck, or PlayStation 5.
Use the same Nintendo Account and a compatible console when you need to access a Nintendo cloud backup. If you are moving between Nintendo systems, check the console’s Save Data Cloud controls and wait for the backup or download to complete before launching the game. The membership-backed Nintendo service protects the Switch-side save; it does not establish a shared progression system across publishers’ storefronts.

Can you transfer a save between Steam Deck and Switch 2?
That remains unconfirmed. Steam documents Steam Cloud for the Steam version, and Nintendo documents Save Data Cloud for the Switch 2 version, but neither platform listing says that the two services exchange Order of the Sinking Star saves. The reviewed official material also does not provide a code, account-linking flow, export file, or cross-save toggle.
Therefore, do not assume that beginning the game on a Steam Deck lets you continue automatically on Switch 2, or that a Switch 2 save will appear in Steam. A cloud icon on both storefronts means each platform has a backup or synchronization feature; it does not mean the platforms share a save database.

- Choose the platform on which you expect to spend most of your time.
- Keep your main progress on that platform’s supported cloud service: Steam Cloud for Steam, or Nintendo Save Data Cloud for Switch 2 with Nintendo Switch Online.
- Do not delete a local save or accept a cloud-conflict prompt while expecting it to make a copy for another platform.
- For a definitive statement about future cross-save support, use the developer’s or publisher’s official support channel. The available support category is Arc Games’ Order of the Sinking Star support page.
What is known about PlayStation 5 saves?
The official game FAQ lists PlayStation 5 as a platform, but the official pages reviewed for this article do not establish the title-specific PlayStation cloud-save behavior, manual backup method, or compatibility with Steam Cloud or Nintendo Save Data Cloud. The same evidence gap applies to a PlayStation-to-Steam or PlayStation-to-Switch transfer claim.
Best Value
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
If PlayStation 5 is your main system, treat its save as platform-specific unless Thekla, Inc. or the publisher publishes a clear cross-save announcement. Do not buy a second version on the assumption that your existing progress will follow your account automatically.
Which version fits your way of playing?
Choose Steam if you want Deck play and Steam continuity
The Steam edition is the clearest choice if you want a Verified handheld experience and the ability to use Steam Cloud within the Steam ecosystem. It suits players who alternate between a Steam Deck and another compatible Steam computer, provided they keep synchronization enabled and resolve conflicts carefully.
Choose Switch 2 if you prefer Nintendo’s handheld system
The Switch 2 listing confirms one-player play, handheld mode, and Save Data Cloud support with Nintendo Switch Online. This is a Nintendo-account backup path, separate from Steam’s service. It is appropriate when your play and future hardware moves will remain inside the Nintendo ecosystem.
Choose PlayStation 5 only after checking your transfer expectations
PlayStation 5 is listed as an announced platform, but the reviewed official information does not answer the save question. If cross-platform continuation matters more than platform preference, obtain a direct, current statement from the developer or publisher before committing to that version.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing Verified with cross-save: Steam Deck Verified describes handheld compatibility, not a license or save bridge to another console.
- Confusing two cloud labels: Steam Cloud and Nintendo Save Data Cloud are operated within different platform ecosystems.
- Reading “single-player” as local co-op: The listings specify one player; taking turns is not an advertised multiplayer mode.
- Assuming a Nintendo membership is optional: Nintendo’s listing says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for the listed Save Data Cloud feature.
- Assuming a PS5 cloud policy: The title-specific PlayStation save behavior is not established by the official pages reviewed here.
Bottom line for Steam Deck, multiplayer, and saves
Order of the Sinking Star is Steam Deck Verified, with the developer citing optimized controls and interface work for handheld play. It is a solo puzzle adventure: Steam lists single-player, and Nintendo lists one player on one Switch 2 system. Steam Cloud supports the Steam edition, while Nintendo Switch 2 offers Save Data Cloud to Nintendo Switch Online members. Those services protect saves within their respective platforms, but no official listing reviewed here confirms cross-platform saves between Steam Deck, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5.
