Order of the Sinking Star, the narrative puzzle adventure led by Jonathan Blow and developed by Thekla Inc., launched on October 8, 2026, with October 9 applying in some regions. It is available on PC through Steam and Steam Deck, on Nintendo Switch 2, and on PlayStation 5. The official media page does not label any video as a “launch trailer,” so this guide sorts the released trailers by name and publisher, and explains what each source says the footage covers.
What the game is
Order of the Sinking Star is a narrative adventure and puzzle game. Its official copy describes Jonathan Blow as the creative lead and points to his earlier games Braid and The Witness. Thekla Inc. is the developer, and Arc Games is the publisher.
The official descriptions make four main promises. The game has more than 1,000 handcrafted puzzles that are interconnected, along with evolving mechanics. It has four distinct worlds, each with its own mechanics, characters and story. Players explore at their own pace, and the mystery is revealed through that exploration. The 1,000-plus puzzle figure is the developer’s and publisher’s own count, and no independent tally was available when this guide was written.
Launch dates and platforms
The official global release-times notice, dated October 5, 2026, sets the launch for October 8, 2026, or October 9 depending on region. The same platforms appear across that notice and the Nintendo listing:

Matching the “launch trailer” label
If you are looking for a video called a launch trailer, the official pages reviewed do not name one. Check each video’s title and upload date on the official channel before attributing any footage to a particular trailer. Trailer names and descriptions should be treated as the publisher’s labels, not as a verified breakdown of each clip’s contents.
What the Explore the Realm trailer shows
Arc Games’ description of “New Trailer – Explore the Realm” is the most detailed statement about gameplay footage in the official sources. According to that announcement, the trailer covers:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The Overworld, the hub connecting the game’s areas.
- Non-linear exploration, meaning players can move through the game in an order of their choosing.
- The four distinct worlds.
- The eventual collision of those worlds, which the publisher presents as part of the interconnected design.
Playable characters and story
Nintendo’s product listing names a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard and a talking boat among the playable heroes. The listing says players gather notes and piece together the mystery as they explore.
The listing’s tagline, “For every solution, a revelation,” is marketing copy written by Nintendo. It is not a quotation from a named speaker, and no first-person statement from Jonathan Blow or another named person was found in the official pages reviewed.
