Ori and the Blind Forest remains an easy recommendation for players drawn to expressive hand-painted art, fluid platforming, and an orchestral score. The Definitive Edition is the best starting point: it adds new areas, difficulty choices, gameplay upgrades, and gallery material. It is listed for Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Steam, so the right platform largely comes down to portability and preferred controls.

What makes Ori and the Blind Forest stand out?

The game’s appeal is built around the way its parts reinforce one another. Hand-painted environments give the forest a storybook look, while animated character work helps make Ori’s movement feel expressive. Platforming is central rather than incidental, and the orchestral score supports the game’s emotional tone. Nintendo’s official listing highlights the artwork, character animation, and music; critic excerpts collected on Metacritic also praise the responsive controls and score.

That combination is the main reason to play it: this is a platforming adventure whose presentation is as memorable as its movement. The available critic evidence supports praise for those strengths, but it does not establish a reliable consensus list of weaknesses.

What does the Definitive Edition add?

The Definitive Edition expands the original rather than replacing its core identity. Xbox Wire announced new areas, difficulty choices, gameplay upgrades, and an in-game gallery containing cinematic scenes, trailers, concept art, and behind-the-scenes material. The edition was presented for both first-time players and people returning to the game.

What do reviews and ratings say?

Metacritic’s Xbox One critic page showed an aggregate score of 88 from 24 critic reviews when retrieved on October 8, 2026. Its displayed breakdown was 22 positive, 2 mixed, and 0 negative. The excerpts on that page call out responsive controls, music, new environments, and added difficulty options. This is a platform-specific snapshot, and the score and review count can change.

Metacritic’s Definitive Edition page showed a user score of 8.3 from 972 user ratings on October 8, 2026. That is a separate, changing user-rating snapshot; it should not be treated as a critic score or as a rating for every platform.

Which platform should you choose?

Nintendo, Xbox, and Steam each list the Definitive Edition digitally. Those store pages establish that the game is listed on those platforms; they do not establish current price, regional availability, subscription terms, or physical stock. Check the store serving your region before buying.

Platform What the available evidence establishes Useful consideration
Nintendo Switch Nintendo lists the Definitive Edition digitally. Portability is the clearest practical distinction.
Xbox Xbox lists the Definitive Edition digitally. A natural choice if you prefer playing on your Xbox setup and controller.
Steam Steam lists the Definitive Edition digitally and includes official soundtrack content on its store page. A fit for players who prefer PC controls and their own display setup.

A 2019 Meristation review of the Switch port reported 1080p output when docked and 720p in handheld mode, with animation at 60 frames and occasional dips. Those are figures reported by that outlet at the time, not current measurements or a like-for-like comparison against Xbox and PC. There is not enough comparable, recent evidence here to call one platform technically superior.

Is there a physical copy or soundtrack?

The official listings cited here confirm digital availability, not a physical game card or disc, current retailer inventory, or regional stock. Check local retailers and platform-specific listings if owning a physical copy matters to you. Steam’s page lists official soundtrack content, but the available information does not establish a physical soundtrack product.
