The ORIGIN PC EVO17-S can be a fast, relatively slim gaming laptop, but its name covers several generations with different screens, graphics power and review results. The clearest recent performance picture comes from PC Gamer’s 2022 configuration: a Core i9-12900H and 175W RTX 3080 Ti delivered strong gaming performance, but the laptop was loud under load and expensive at its reviewed configuration price. Those findings should not be applied to every EVO17-S.
Which EVO17-S did reviewers test?
ORIGIN PC reused the EVO17-S name across multiple generations. Its configurations range from RTX 2080 Max-Q systems to a 2022 RTX 3080 Ti model rated at 175W. Screen options also changed. The configuration matters more than the product name when judging performance or portability.

The 2022 RTX 3080 Ti configuration
PC Gamer described its 2022 EVO17-S as a high-performing gaming laptop, with graphics performance it praised and benchmark results roughly neck-and-neck with the Razer Blade 17 in that publication’s tests. That comparison applies to the configurations and benchmark conditions in the review, not every EVO17-S or every Blade 17. The reviewed GPU was an RTX 3080 Ti rated at 175W, a detail that helps explain why the result should not be generalized to lower-power Max-Q configurations.

Earlier RTX generations
The 2019 Laptop Mag review described its RTX 2080 Max-Q unit as fast, while the publication’s 2021 review found its Core i7-11800H/RTX 3080 Max-Q EVO17-S fell short of its premium gaming laptop average in testing. These are separate systems and tests; they do not establish a single performance ranking for the entire EVO17-S line.
When comparing listings or reviews, check the exact GPU and its power rating, then match the screen resolution and refresh rate. An RTX name alone does not establish equivalent gaming performance.

Is the EVO17-S thin and portable?
ORIGIN PC listed the 2020 and 2021 EVO17-S at 5.07 pounds and 0.78 inches thick. Those are manufacturer-stated dimensions for those releases, not a verified measurement for every generation. PC Gamer listed its 2022 review system at 6 pounds, so the earlier published weight should not be carried forward as a universal specification.
Thinness is only one part of portability. Laptop Mag criticized battery life on its 2019 review unit, while PC Gamer praised battery life on its different 2022 system. Treat those as model-specific review findings rather than a consistent result across years. The 2022 system’s six-pound listed weight also makes it worth checking the exact unit’s weight if frequent carrying is important.

How loud is it, and what are the practical trade-offs?
PC Gamer noted loud operation under load on its 2022 system. The source does not establish a decibel measurement or a result that applies to every configuration. Laptop Mag’s 2019 review identified a dim display and poor battery life alongside a high price; PC Gamer also flagged the cost of its 2022 test configuration. These drawbacks belong to those reviews and should not be assumed identical on other generations.
For a useful comparison with another gaming laptop, line up the reviewed CPU and GPU power, screen resolution and refresh rate, measured game performance, fan-noise conditions, battery testing, chassis dimensions and configuration price. A result without those details can conceal important differences.

What did the 2022 configuration cost, and is that price current?
PC Gamer listed $3,368 for its specific 2022 review configuration. ORIGIN PC’s announced starting prices were $1,999 in May 2020 and $2,194 in January 2021. Each figure is historical: none establishes a current EVO17-S offer or today’s price.

Verdict: should you consider an ORIGIN PC EVO17-S?
The 2022 EVO17-S review supports a favorable view of its gaming performance, but also documents loud operation under load and a high price for the tested configuration. Earlier reviews report different strengths and weaknesses, so a buyer should identify the precise generation and configuration before treating any verdict as relevant. The 2020 and 2021 thinness figures are useful reference points, not proof that every EVO17-S has the same dimensions.
For context, PC Gamer’s 2022 headline verdict called its unit “A beast of a laptop with incredible graphics card performance, impressive battery life, and a thin frame.” That is the publication’s assessment of that reviewed system, not a blanket guarantee for all EVO17-S models.
