It is a cooperative combat minigame in which players defend the Void Knight while destroying portals that spawn pests. Successful rounds award Void Knight commendation points, which can be exchanged for virtual Void Knight equipment.
You start at Void Knights’ Outpost. The activity has three landers with broad combat-level requirements: novice from level 40, intermediate from level 70, and veteran from level 100. Exact entry rules and reward values can change or should be checked in the current game interface, so treat those thresholds as a practical guide rather than a guarantee of every present-day mechanic.

What Pest Control is in OSRS
Pest Control is a team-based combat activity built around defending a single important target. Players travel to an island from Void Knights’ Outpost, board a lander appropriate to their combat level, and fight waves of pests. The round has two linked objectives: keep the Void Knight alive and destroy the portals that produce the attacking creatures.
This is not a standalone quest or a separate game client. It is an activity inside Old School RuneScape, using your existing character, combat level and equipment. Its principal long-term reward is also part of the game: Void Knight commendation points. Those points are spent on Void Knight equipment rather than on a physical product or an external purchase.
#1 Best Overall
Why the answer is definitely yes
Jagex addressed Pest Control directly in Old School RuneScape Poll #52. One proposal concerned an activity bar, and the published result was 32,930 votes in favour and 5,994 against, or 84.6% support. The poll is dated 2017, so it demonstrates that Pest Control is an established OSRS activity and that its participation system was formally discussed; it is not a current measure of player numbers, queue size or popularity.
The poll description says that participating in the minigame, “whether through combat or other methods, will increase your activity.” That wording explains why simply being present is not the same as making a meaningful contribution. The activity system is intended to record participation during a round, while the broader match still revolves around the knight and portals.
Where to start Pest Control
Travel to Void Knights’ Outpost
Void Knights’ Outpost is the starting location identified for Pest Control. Once there, use the available lander for the difficulty tier that matches your combat level. The activity is therefore not started from a random bank, a quest menu or a world-map destination elsewhere in Gielinor; the Outpost is the relevant hub.

Choose a lander by combat requirement
The commonly listed thresholds are divided into three tiers:
Rank #2
- Featuring Original Artwork from OSRS Community Artists
- Machine Washable
- Smooth, Easy-Glide surface
- Printed at 300 Dots Per Inch
| Lander | Broad combat-level threshold | What the tier means |
|---|---|---|
| Novice | 40 combat | Entry tier for characters at or above the level-40 threshold. |
| Intermediate | 70 combat | Higher-difficulty tier for characters at or above the level-70 threshold. |
| Veteran | 100 combat | Highest listed tier for characters at or above the level-100 threshold. |
These are broad requirements. Check the lander or activity interface in your current game version if entry eligibility is critical, because additional present-day restrictions, interface rules or exceptions may apply. A combat level below 40 does not qualify for the listed novice lander, while reaching 70 or 100 opens the corresponding higher tier according to those thresholds.
What to bring
Pest Control uses normal OSRS combat, so arrive with equipment and supplies you are allowed to use in the activity. No required weapon, armour set, inventory, prayer setup, food quantity or number of players is specified here. Those choices depend on your account, combat style and the role you intend to perform. Do not assume that a particular loadout, point rate or strategy is an official requirement unless the current in-game rules say so.
How a Pest Control round works
1. Enter through the selected lander
At the Outpost, select the lander corresponding to your tier. The tier is the first decision because the listed combat thresholds determine which boat you can use. If you are uncertain, read the current entry prompt rather than relying only on an old guide.

2. Protect the Void Knight
The Void Knight is the unit the team must keep alive. Pests attack the area, and allowing the knight to be overwhelmed causes the team to lose the central objective even if players have dealt substantial damage elsewhere. Defensive actions are therefore part of winning, not an optional side activity.

3. Destroy the portals
Portals are the sources from which pests spawn. The second required objective is to destroy them. Attacking random pests can help control pressure, but the round’s stated win condition also requires progress against the portals. A team that only fights spawned creatures without dealing with the portals has not completed the activity’s main task.
4. Participate throughout the match
Jagex’s poll description states that participation through combat or other methods increases activity. This matters because the minigame includes an activity bar rather than treating every entrant as equally active. Stay involved in the defence and portal objectives so your contribution is recorded. The current minimum bar percentage, exact points threshold, timer and penalty formula are not specified here, so those figures should be read from the live game interface rather than guessed from an old guide.
5. Complete the winning round
A successful round is one in which the team fulfils the objectives and wins. Winning rounds can award Void Knight commendation points. No universal current number of points per game, average games per hour or match duration is specified here, so no reliable rate should be promised.
What you get from Pest Control
Void Knight commendation points
Commendation points are the activity’s shared in-game currency. They are earned through successful Pest Control rounds and are separate from the equipment purchased with them. Keeping that distinction clear prevents a common misunderstanding: the round does not directly hand every player a complete equipment set; it gives points that can later be exchanged.

Void Knight equipment
The main progression draw is Void Knight equipment. Once you have the necessary commendation points, they can be exchanged for the relevant virtual gear through the activity’s reward system. A current item-by-item price list, set bonuses, exchange menu labels or number of points awarded under each lander is not provided here, so those details should be checked in-game before planning a purchase.
Void Knight equipment is entirely digital OSRS gear. It is not a physical merchandise line, an Amazon item or a separate product that must be ordered outside the game. The official OSRS site may show general merchandise, but no Pest Control-specific physical item is established here.
Details without current confirmation
- No current player-count or population figure is confirmed.
- No official Pest Control world is identified.
- No verified points-per-hour figure is available.
- No current round-duration, reward-price or activity-bar threshold is established.
- No named Jagex employee has a quoted statement about the minigame.
These omissions are important if you are comparing methods for training or calculating how long a Void Knight purchase will take. A guide that supplies exact rates should identify the date, lander, activity rules and conditions behind its measurements.

Novice: the level-40 entry point
The novice lander is the broad entry tier listed for combat level 40. It is the relevant choice for a character that meets the minimum threshold but not the higher thresholds. No precise difficulty modifier, monster statistic, reward multiplier or player-capacity difference for novice is specified here, so do not infer those numbers from the label alone.

Intermediate: the level-70 tier
At combat level 70, the intermediate lander becomes the listed option. It represents a higher tier than novice, but no quantified difference in its enemies, rewards or completion speed is specified here. Use the live entry information to confirm that your account qualifies.
Veteran: the level-100 tier
The veteran lander is listed for combat level 100 and above. It is the highest of the three named tiers in the reference material. Nothing supplied here proves a specific points bonus, monster level, team size or expected completion time for veteran, so those details should not be presented as fixed facts.
Common reasons a player may be confused
“I cannot find Pest Control on the mainland.”
Look for Void Knights’ Outpost rather than expecting a mainland minigame icon to be the only route. The activity is associated with the Outpost and its landers. If you have not reached the correct area, the game will not present the normal boarding choices.
“I am at the Outpost but cannot board.”
Check your combat level against the tier you selected. The broad thresholds are 40 for novice, 70 for intermediate and 100 for veteran. Also read the current game prompt for any additional restriction; these thresholds may not capture every modern entry rule.
“I entered but received no useful reward.”
Pest Control rewards successful rounds with commendation points, not an automatic equipment set. Confirm that the round was won and that your activity was recorded. Because the current activity-bar cutoff and reward calculation are not specified here, use the in-game result screen to diagnose a specific missing payout.
“Should I attack pests or portals?”
Both objectives matter. The team must protect the Void Knight and destroy the portals. Focusing only on spawned creatures can leave the portal objective unfinished, while ignoring incoming pests can put the knight at risk. Follow the current battlefield indicators and contribute to whichever of those two objectives is under pressure.
A first-visit checklist
- Confirm that your combat level meets the listed minimum for the lander you intend to use.
- Travel to Void Knights’ Outpost.
- Read the current lander entry text and choose novice, intermediate or veteran as permitted.
- Bring a combat setup appropriate for your account; no universal equipment list is established.
- During the round, watch the Void Knight’s safety and help destroy portals.
- Remain active, since Jagex says combat or other participation increases the activity bar.
- After a win, check your commendation-point balance and the live reward interface before deciding what to exchange.
Bottom line for OSRS players
Pest Control is a real OSRS cooperative minigame, not a feature from another RuneScape edition or a fan-made activity. Start at Void Knights’ Outpost, meet the broad combat threshold for a lander, defend the Void Knight, destroy the portals and earn commendation points from winning rounds. Those points are the route to Void Knight equipment. For exact current prices, activity requirements, point rates and world availability, rely on the information shown by the game client because those details can change.
