What makes its mystery distinctive?
The structure described by the storefronts makes exploration itself the way forward: observation and investigation help a player understand what is happening across different locations and times. That is an interpretation of the official feature descriptions, not a claim of firsthand play. Rather than treating the solar system as a backdrop, the game presents it as a set of places to investigate, with tools that support collecting and interpreting clues.

The discovery process is therefore best approached without expecting a conventional plot summary to capture how the mystery unfolds.

Steam’s store copy also reports that Outer Wilds won Best Game at the 2020 BAFTA Games Awards and that Giant Bomb, Polygon, Eurogamer, and The Guardian named it Game of the Year for 2019. Which edition includes Echoes of the Eye?
Echoes of the Eye is the game’s expansion; Mobius says it was released in September 2021. Where can you play Outer Wilds?
Mobius Digital’s release timeline records the game’s launch on Xbox, Epic, and PS4 in 2019, its Steam release in 2020, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions in 2022, and a Nintendo Switch release in 2023. Mobius’s November 2024 merchandise roundup listed physical PS5 and Switch releases from iam8bit and warned that quantities were limited. It specifically identified the corrected PS5 retail edition as containing all content on the disc.
