What happened with the Outward 2 sign-ups?
On May 19, 2026, Nine Dots Studio announced registration for a closed beta scheduled to run from May 26 at 4 p.m. EST through June 8 at 1 p.m. EST. Those dates are past. The announcement does not establish that holiday-season registrations are open or that another playtest has been scheduled.
For that beta, players who had access to the January playtest were to receive access automatically after updating. Other interested players could register through the studio’s website or on Steam. Nine Dots said website registrants would receive invitations first and that selected participants would be emailed keys on May 26. These were instructions for the May–June beta, not verified current sign-up steps. Read the May 19 announcement.
How to check for current beta access
Nine Dots’ Outward 2 game page has listed links labeled “Play the beta now” and “Register for playtest,” alongside storefront links for Steam, GOG, and Epic. Page content and access windows can change, so use that official page to see whether registration or a playable beta is currently available rather than assuming a link guarantees access.

What the beta was set to introduce
The May announcement highlighted La Rescapée, a new region of Aurai. Nine Dots described it as a once-lush forest largely razed during more than a century of Scourge invasion, with remnants of civilization and a landscape rebuilding after the Turning. The studio invited beta participants to share feedback through its Discord feedback channel. It also mentioned its GEP Discord program for finding co-op partners by playstyle, language, and progression.
What kind of RPG is Outward 2?
Nine Dots describes Outward 2 as a survival-oriented RPG in which preparation matters: hunger, illness, weather, and other hazards affect the journey. The studio says Aurai can be explored at the player’s pace, without fast travel or a magic map, and describes dynamic seasonal weather. These are the developer’s descriptions, not independent findings about how the game plays.

Combat and character choices
The studio describes combat as an improved version of the original Outward’s system. It says players have a limited number of learnable skills and can build around melee, ranged weapons and traps, or magic sigils. That limited skill selection makes planning a character’s approach part of the game’s intended challenge.
Solo and co-op options
The official game page lists single-player, online co-op, and local split-screen support. The studio has not specified in the cited announcements whether every mode is available in every beta build, so check the current beta details before expecting a particular mode.

Release timing: the planned July launch was delayed
On June 16, 2026, Nine Dots announced that it was delaying the planned July release to spend more time in production and act on beta feedback. The announcement did not provide a replacement release date. Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, Nine Dots’ CEO and Creative Director, wrote, “The point of a Beta is to listen to feedback, and so we will.” He also described the studio’s aim to make the jump between the beta and Early Access launch “stark” enough to earn players’ trust; that is the studio’s stated goal, not a confirmed date or guarantee of a particular outcome.
