Overwatch 2 Aim Assist: What Console and PC Players Can Use

Overwatch 2 aim assist depends on platform, input, matchmaking pool and mode—not simply whether a player uses a controller.

Overwatch 2 does not enable aim assist for all console and PC players alike. Eligibility depends on platform, input, matchmaking pool and mode: console controller players can retain aim assist in certain cross-play Quick Play and Arcade matches with PC friends, while PC players remain in the Mouse and Keyboard Pool for Competitive, where aim assist is unavailable.

Does Overwatch 2 have aim assist on PC?

Not in Competitive play in the Mouse and Keyboard Pool. Blizzard says PC players stay in that pool for Competitive integrity, even if they use a controller, and aim-assist features are unavailable there. A console player using a controller is a different case: Blizzard says they can retain aim assist when grouping with a PC friend in cross-play-enabled Quick Play or Arcade, provided they have not enabled mouse and keyboard.

Blizzard describes aim assist as a console feature intended to help bridge the difference in aiming precision between a mouse and a controller. The key distinction is not simply “controller versus mouse”: platform and matchmaking pool also matter.

How platform, input and mode affect aim assist

Situation Pool or mode Aim assist
Console player using a controller in console-only matches Console matches Enabled, according to Blizzard’s cross-play FAQ.
Console player using a controller, grouped with a PC friend, without mouse and keyboard enabled Cross-play-enabled Quick Play or Arcade Retained, according to Blizzard’s more specific current explanation.
Console player who enables mouse and keyboard Mouse and Keyboard Pool Unavailable in Competitive; Blizzard identifies this as a separate pool.
PC player using a controller Mouse and Keyboard Pool in Competitive Unavailable in Competitive, regardless of controller use.

There is an apparent difference between Blizzard’s older and newer wording. The original cross-play FAQ says aim assist is disabled by default when a console player groups with someone on PC. Blizzard’s later explanation specifies that console players who have not enabled mouse and keyboard retain aim assist in cross-play-enabled Quick Play or Arcade with a PC friend. Treat the older FAQ as a baseline, not as a blanket rule for every current cross-play situation; mode and input setup determine which description applies.

What the console aim-assist settings change

Blizzard’s Season 20 settings explainer describes separate controls rather than one universal aim-assist switch or recommended configuration:

  • Aim Assist Strength: Sets the amount of aim assist, including rotational aim assist.
  • Aim Assist Window Size: Sets how large the target area in which aim assist can engage is.
  • Aim Assist Ease In: Shapes how aim-assist strength engages near the edges of that window.
  • Aim Smoothing: Smooths raw controller input.
  • Aim Ease In: Changes the sensitivity curve.

These settings affect different parts of controller aiming. Adjust them to suit your own control preference rather than assuming that a higher strength or larger window is universally better.

Recent aim-assist changes and dates

These figures describe specific Blizzard updates; they are not measurements comparing controller performance with mouse aiming.

Date and update What Blizzard said changed Qualification
December 9, 2025 — Season 20 rollout Base aim assist increased by 6% to 8%, depending on target distance. This describes the Season 20 rollout, not a universal current multiplier.
February 2026 patch notes A legacy option was added for the previous strength curve; a previous 4% auto-aim change was extended to all hitscan heroes. The notes also mention a fix for hidden Jetpack Cat aim-assist strength and threshold settings. These are changes and a fix documented in that patch’s notes.
April 14, 2026 live patch Hitscan Auto Assist strength was reduced by 4% “to more closely match its pre–Season 20 values.” Blizzard explicitly said the reduction does not affect Legacy Strength Mode.

For historical context, December 18, 2025 patch notes reduced aim assist from 8% to 4% for Ashe, Bastion, Soldier, Tracer, D.Va, Mauga, Ana, Bap and Juno. The later April 2026 Hitscan adjustment is the more current broad change; that December list should not be read as a complete account of the current balance state.

Why some players objected to the Season 20 changes

In a January 22, 2026 Director’s Take, game director Aaron Keller said the system’s initial implementation changed the feel of the game for many players. He also described player concerns that they could not return to the previous system and that the update had shifted the console meta in unhealthy ways. Blizzard said it reverted some changes that modified default aim settings. These are concerns attributed to player feedback in Keller’s post, not independently measured findings.

Use of input-spoofing devices

Blizzard warns that using unapproved peripherals to exploit aim assist is an unfair advantage and may lead to restrictions or other action. Avoid adapters or devices intended to make one input appear to be another to gain aim-assist benefits.
