When did Overwatch Season 1 launch in 2026?
Blizzard launched 2026 Season 1 on February 10, 2026, as announced in its Overwatch Spotlight: The Reign of Talon Begins. Because that date has passed, this is a record of the launch—not a future release date.

The year matters: Blizzard also says a new Season 1 is planned for 2027, marking the next yearly cycle. The announcement does not specify its launch date, so “Season 1” without a year can mean two different things.
What does the 2026 Overwatch roadmap include?
The Reign of Talon story arc
Blizzard describes “The Reign of Talon” as a connected story arc spanning Season 1 through Season 6 of 2026. The roadmap establishes the season sequence and narrative plan, not a complete calendar of launch dates.

Heroes and Season 1 features
In its February 6, 2026 Director’s Take, “Sunrise in Gibraltar”, Blizzard said it had committed to releasing ten heroes during 2026, with five joining at Season 1 launch. The same plan named new Hero Sub Roles, a major UI/UX refresh, competitive updates, Stadium updates, collaborations, and additional content. These were announced plans; their inclusion here does not independently verify how each feature performed in-game.
“We’ve committed to releasing ten Heroes in 2026 to celebrate Overwatch’s tenth anniversary and you can expect more maps, more systems, and more features as the year goes on.”

What season is live, and are the next dates known?
Blizzard’s October 6, 2026 retail patch notes identify the update as “Reign of Talon – Season 5: A Grim Doctrine.” They also describe the four-week “Mystery Mayhem: Graveyard Games” event. This is a current-season marker for the date of those notes, not an announcement of when Season 6 will begin.

The official roadmap sources do not establish exact start dates for the remaining 2026 seasons. Do not derive dates by assuming that seasons have a fixed duration; Blizzard’s announced season sequence is not itself a dated release calendar.

Blizzard’s Spotlight coverage says the 2026 competitive-year update included a rank reset and new rewards. It also notes that Season 20 and Season 1 competitive titles were expected with the Season 2 title update after Blizzard said it needed more time to polish the feature. That timing illustrates that announced feature plans can change; a roadmap announcement should not be treated as confirmation that every feature will arrive on its initially expected schedule. Are OWCS dates Overwatch season dates?
No. The Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) is an esports competition, and its event schedule is separate from the game’s in-season roadmap. Blizzard’s OWCS 2026 Stage 1 Viewers Guide covers esports programming dates, not Overwatch game-season launch dates.
