Blizzard previewed Venture at BlizzCon 2023, then introduced them as Overwatch 2’s first trans non-binary hero. The event schedule announced a new-hero deep dive, while Blizzard’s later account identified Venture as the hero shown there. Venture uses they/them pronouns.
When was Venture revealed at BlizzCon?
Blizzard’s BlizzCon 2023 schedule listed the Overwatch 2 Opening Ceremonies for November 3 at 11:00 AM PT, where the game was set to introduce its next hero. A separate “New Hero Deep Dive” was scheduled for 2:30 PM PT that day. Blizzard said developers would discuss the hero’s art, backstory, and abilities, and premiere an origin-story cinematic. The schedule did not name the character.

In a later developer update, Blizzard clarified that Venture was the 40th hero previewed at BlizzCon the previous year. That retrospective connects the event’s unnamed deep dive to Venture.
Who is Venture in Overwatch 2?
Blizzard describes Venture as an enthusiastic archaeologist and a Damage hero. The character’s identity and pronouns are stated directly in Blizzard’s development account. Senior Narrative Designer Miranda Moyer wrote: “Venture is our first trans non-binary hero, and they use they/them pronouns.”

Blizzard says the development team worked with the company’s LGBT Network and gender non-conforming developers on Team 4, using their feedback to refine the portrayal. The team also consulted a queer fashion company on Venture’s styling.
How did Venture’s archaeologist concept take shape?
Blizzard’s development account says the initial concept was a hero who could dig underground and needed a large drill. The team then settled on a swashbuckling archaeologist archetype that fit the gameplay and weapon. In developing the design, the concept artist described streamlining the drill head toward a recognizable cone shape after considering how it appeared in 3D from a first-person perspective.

What does Venture do in Overwatch 2?
Blizzard’s Season 10 announcement presented Venture as a close-quarters Damage hero with a drill-centered kit. The descriptions below reflect Blizzard’s historical Season 10 and March 2024 announcements; they are not a guide to current balance or access.

When did Venture become playable?
Blizzard’s March 2024 announcement said Venture would be available in a limited-time trial on all platforms, outside Competitive Play. Blizzard’s Season 10 announcement said the season began April 16, 2024, and that players who completed the new-player experience would immediately unlock new heroes. Those were statements about the 2024 launch period, not confirmation of today’s access rules.

In its 2024 Pride announcement, Blizzard named the comic “Venture’s Adventures: Tangle with Talon” and described its premise as an archaeological mission on Ilios. The announcement establishes a comic premiere, not a physical print edition.

The same announcement described a Pride apparel promotion running from May 15 through June 30, 2024. That was a past campaign; it does not establish current merchandise availability or ongoing partner-program terms.
