Overwatch launched Season 1 of The Reign of Talon on February 10, 2026, and dropped the “2” from its title. The update introduced five heroes—Domina, Emre, Mizuki, Anran, and Jetpack Cat—alongside the opening of a connected, year-long story and changes to the game’s interface and modes.
When did Jetpack Cat and the other new heroes arrive?
All five heroes launched with Season 1 on February 10, 2026. Anran was also available earlier in a Hero Trial that began February 5, according to Nintendo’s February 13 recap.

The roles and faction affiliations are listed in Nintendo’s recap. The split—three heroes associated with Talon and two with Overwatch—connects the new roster to the season’s central conflict rather than treating the additions as separate from the story.
Why did Overwatch drop the “2”?
Blizzard said the title change reflected its focus on an evolving, always-on live-service game rather than a sequel built around a distant release date. Game Director Aaron Keller explained the decision in Xbox Wire’s February 4 article: “We’re putting our time and energy into an evolving, always-on live service game—not a potential sequel with a release date years down the line.”

What is The Reign of Talon?
The Reign of Talon is a connected story arc beginning with Season 1 and running through Season 6. Nintendo’s recap said another Season 1 was planned for 2027, and that Blizzard planned ten hero releases across 2026, with the first five arriving in this opening season.
Miranda Moyer, Overwatch Narrative Lead, described the arc as a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end, told across seasons through hero trailers, motion comics, and other media. “For the first time in Overwatch’s history, we’re telling a complete story,” she wrote in the Xbox Wire article.

The story’s conflict centers on Vendetta, who has seized control of Talon from Doomfist and made the faction’s confrontation with Overwatch more overt. Domina, Emre, and Mizuki join Talon’s side; Anran and Jetpack Cat join Overwatch.
What else changed in Season 1?
The February 4 Blizzard Spotlight announcement framed the launch as a broader game update, not just a roster drop.

Interface and communication
- A UI and UX refresh updated the lobby, play cards, navigation, hero gallery, and social panel.
- The new lobby showed the selected hero in 3D, and a Notification Hub gathered alerts. Blizzard said the lobby would expand to show group members in Season 4.
- The Praise feature let players use hero voice lines to give positive feedback.
- Season 1 patch notes also detailed changes to the Comms Wheel, contextual lines, pings, and Advanced Info Panel coverage for the five new heroes. The Spotlight announcement included additional lobby sound and music controls.
Competitive and Stadium updates
- The competitive year reset with Season 1. Blizzard announced a Crimson Wolf competitive weapon and a Doomfist skin for players who reached Diamond or higher.
- In Stadium, Competitive Stadium power rounds changed to 1/2/4/6. Blizzard also described a Hero Builder that recommended builds using player data.
Events and platform plans
Season 1 included a five-week Conquest event and a Hello Kitty & Friends collaboration featuring six themed hero skins, according to Nintendo’s recap and Blizzard’s Spotlight announcement. Blizzard also announced that Overwatch would come to Nintendo Switch 2 in Season 2; that was the schedule stated in the announcement, not confirmation of present-day availability.
