Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteovui2.dll is a legacy Logitech camera property-page file that may be reported as part of Microsoft Windows when old webcam software or drivers use it. If Windows says ovui2.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, reinstall the affected Logitech camera package first, then repair Windows if other system files are also failing.
What this file actually does
The internal description for ovui2.dll is Logitech Camera Property Pages. It belongs to the older Logitech webcam software stack used by camera configuration tools, QuickCam components, and Logitech Webcam Software.
The file is associated with Windows XP-era webcam support. Logitech Webcam Software releases also supported Windows Vista and Windows 7, including 32-bit and 64-bit editions. A current Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation would not normally need this file unless an older Logitech camera package, utility, or application is still installed.
Some file listings show Microsoft Windows as the product and publisher because the file appeared in Windows or driver distribution packages. That metadata does not mean the camera technology was created by Microsoft. The description and historical file context point to Logitech camera software.

Historically reported copies were 32-bit files commonly found under:
C:WindowsSystem32
Older Windows installations could also contain a protected backup under:
C:WindowsSystem32dllcache
Reported version and size details vary by inventory and should not be treated as a required value for every installation. The important diagnostic question is not whether a random copy has the right filename. It is which old camera program is trying to load the file.
Match the symptom to the likely cause
| What you observe | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| The error appears when opening old Logitech camera settings | Damaged or incomplete Logitech software | Reinstall the exact Logitech webcam package |
| It appears after removing a webcam or uninstalling Logitech software | A leftover shortcut, service, or property-page reference | Remove the obsolete Logitech package or reinstall it cleanly |
| Several Windows components are also missing | Windows component-store or disk corruption | Install updates, then run DISM and SFC |
| Antivirus specifically quarantined the file | Security quarantine or a suspicious replacement | Inspect the original path and detection before restoring |
| The message says “specified module could not be found” | A dependency may be missing, not necessarily ovui2.dll |
Repair the parent application and inspect related errors |
| The file exists in an unusual folder | Possible incorrect copy or unauthorized replacement | Check its properties, signature, and calling application |
| You no longer use the old camera | Obsolete software is still launching | Uninstall the old Logitech software instead of restoring the DLL |
Common reported messages include:
This application failed to start because ovui2.dll was not found.
The program can't start because ovui2.dll is missing from your computer.
Error loading ovui2.dll. The specified module could not be found.
These messages do not all prove the same failure. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency required by ovui2.dll is absent.

Do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL. First determine whether an old Logitech component is still needed.
Check the application named in the error
Write down the program shown in the dialog. Look for names such as:
- Logitech Webcam Software
- QuickCam
- Logitech camera settings
- An old video or conferencing application
- A camera utility installed with older hardware
If the dialog appears only when launching a legacy camera utility, the Logitech package is the primary repair target.
If the error appears during Windows startup, open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc, select Startup apps, and look for an old Logitech entry. Do not disable a startup item blindly if you still use the camera, but note its name before repairing the installation.

C:WindowsSystem32ovui2.dll
Do not assume that a missing file in System32 should simply be copied back. A 32-bit DLL can be loaded by a 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows, but its correct location depends on the installer and the application. Copying it randomly into System32, SysWOW64, or the program folder can create a second problem.
Check the file properties
If a copy exists:
- Right-click
ovui2.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Check File description, Product name, Copyright, and Original filename.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if it is present.
- Select the signer and choose Details.
A description referring to Logitech camera property pages is consistent with the file’s historical identity. A copy in a temporary folder, a user profile download directory, or an unrelated application folder deserves more caution.
A valid signature does not by itself prove that the copy belongs to the program currently reporting the error. An invalid signature, unexpected location, or security warning is a reason to remove the copy through the associated software or security product rather than overwrite it.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check Windows architecture
Open Settings > System > About and check System type.
A 64-bit version of Windows can run many 32-bit applications through its compatibility layer. That does not make a 32-bit DLL interchangeable with a 64-bit DLL. Do not download a file labelled “64-bit” merely because Windows itself is 64-bit, and do not place a 32-bit file in a random system directory to force an application to load it.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Logitech webcam package
This is the most likely fix when the error occurs in an old Logitech camera utility or after a failed driver update.
Use Logitech’s official Product Support page, select the exact camera model and your Windows version, and download the supported Webcam Software or driver package. Avoid a package for a similar-looking camera because older Logitech packages contain different components and similarly named files.
Cleanly remove the damaged package
- Disconnect the webcam if it is externally connected.
- Press Windows key, type Installed apps, and open it.
- Search for Logitech Webcam Software, QuickCam, or another Logitech camera utility.
- Select the matching entry and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking Start and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras, Imaging devices, and Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the old Logitech camera entry and select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only when you are removing the obsolete or damaged Logitech package.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
If the software is not listed under Installed apps, open Control Panel, select Programs > Programs and Features, and remove the Logitech camera software there.
Install the matching package
- Connect the camera if the installer requests it.
- Run the installer downloaded for the exact model and operating system.
- Accept the driver installation prompts.
- Restart Windows even if the installer does not require it.
- Open the Logitech camera utility or the program that originally showed the error.
A successful repair means the old camera settings page opens without the ovui2.dll message and the device appears normally in Device Manager. If the installer refuses to run on Windows 10 or Windows 11, the software may not support the current operating system. In that case, use the camera with a modern class driver if Windows provides one, or remove the obsolete utility if no current program depends on it.

For a driver installation that requires repeated manual searches, Device Manager can show whether Windows still reports a problem:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the camera category.
- Right-click the camera and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab to review the provider and driver date.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver obtained for that exact device, or choose Uninstall Device and reinstall the official package.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through old hardware entries by scanning for driver problems; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and the exact Logitech package remains the definitive fix when a specific legacy camera application needs ovui2.dll.

Fix 2: Install Windows updates, then repair system files
Use this path when the error names a Windows location, other Windows components are missing, or the problem began after disk corruption, an incomplete restoration, or aggressive cleanup.
Install pending updates
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Return to Windows Update and check again until no further required updates are offered.
On Windows 10, Windows Update is under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a source. It normally obtains repair files through Windows Update, so the process can take time and may require an internet connection.
Run System File Checker
After DISM completes:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator again.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Repeat the action that produced the
ovui2.dllerror.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, test the affected program again. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, the missing file is more likely tied to the old Logitech package than to current Windows system files.
If DISM or SFC fails, do not download ovui2.dll from a random file site. Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of identifying repair issues easier through its free scan, while repair actions require the full version; it is optional, and Microsoft’s DISM and SFC remain the appropriate Windows repair path.
Use a matching repair source if DISM cannot find files
If DISM reports that source files could not be found, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the path to a repair source that matches the installed Windows edition and build. An incorrect source can fail to repair the component store.
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
If SFC still cannot repair the file, review the CBS log, use System Restore, or repair Windows with Microsoft recovery options rather than inserting an isolated DLL.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine carefully
If your security software reports that it quarantined ovui2.dll:

(Tips: Incompatible with Windows Hello)
- Open the security application.
- Select Protection history, Quarantine, or the equivalent area.
- Locate the detection.
- Record the original file path and the detection name.
- Check whether the file belonged to a known Logitech installation.
- Update the security application and run a full scan.
- Restore the file only if the path, software, and security assessment all identify it as a legitimate component.
If the file came from a temporary folder or an unknown program, do not restore it merely because the filename matches. Reinstall the known Logitech package from its official support page instead.
There is no need to treat every antivirus detection as proof of malware, but the filename alone is not proof of safety either.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 4: Use System Restore after a recent software change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after removing Logitech software, installing a driver, or restoring a damaged configuration.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally affects system files, drivers, and installed software rather than personal documents. It will not recreate a legitimate Logitech installation if the application itself has been removed, so reinstall the correct package afterward if necessary.
Fix 5: Remove obsolete software if you no longer need the camera
If the old webcam is gone and no current application needs Logitech’s camera property pages, restoring ovui2.dll may be the wrong goal.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Remove Logitech Webcam Software, QuickCam software, and other obsolete Logitech camera utilities.
- Open Device Manager.
- Remove the unused camera entry if it remains.
- Restart Windows.
- Check whether the error has disappeared.
If the message still appears at startup, inspect Task Manager > Startup apps and Task Scheduler for a remaining Logitech launcher. Remove or disable only entries clearly belonging to software you no longer use.
Why downloading the DLL or using regsvr32 usually fails
A loose DLL downloaded from an unofficial site can have the wrong build, architecture, dependencies, permissions, or embedded malware. It may also hide the real problem: a damaged Logitech installer, a missing dependency, a stale startup reference, or Windows component corruption.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not copy a downloaded file into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder as a first repair. There is no current official standalone Microsoft download for ovui2.dll identified here. Use the original Logitech installer for the camera package or Microsoft’s Windows repair tools for Windows corruption.
regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for libraries that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no authoritative evidence that manually registering this particular file is required.
Best Value
Use regsvr32 only when the original Logitech installer or an accompanying INF explicitly requires it, and only with the correct 32-bit or 64-bit registration utility for the application. If the installer does not instruct you to register ovui2.dll, do not run commands such as:
regsvr32 ovui2.dll
A registration error does not prove that the file is corrupt.
What if the error persists?
Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the exact application that displays the message.
- Check whether that application is old Logitech camera software.
- Remove and reinstall the exact camera package.
- Check Device Manager for a warning icon or driver error.
- Review antivirus quarantine and the file’s original path.
- Run Windows Update.
- Run DISM, then SFC.
- Use System Restore if the issue began after a recent system change.
- If no current program needs the camera, uninstall the obsolete software instead.
If the message says a module cannot be found even after ovui2.dll is restored by the official installer, the missing item may be a dependency. Repair the complete application rather than adding individual DLLs.
FAQ
Is ovui2.dll a virus?
The filename is not enough to determine that. A copy associated with a known Logitech installation and consistent file metadata is more credible than one found in a temporary or unrelated directory. Check its path, properties, signature, and antivirus history, then scan the system if anything looks suspicious.
Is this a Microsoft file or a Logitech file?
Historical Windows and driver metadata can identify Microsoft as the product or publisher, but the internal description is Logitech Camera Property Pages and the file belongs to the legacy Logitech webcam stack. Microsoft metadata reflects how the file was distributed or catalogued, not necessarily who created the camera technology.
Does Windows 11 normally need ovui2.dll?
No. It is historically associated with older Logitech webcam software. Windows 10 or Windows 11 may report it only when an old Logitech utility, driver package, or application is still installed or being launched.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not for this file alone. There is no verified connection between ovui2.dll and those runtime packages. Install or repair them only when the error specifically names a component from that runtime.
Can I copy the file from another computer?
That is not recommended. The other computer may have a different build, architecture, dependency set, or software configuration. Reinstall the complete Logitech package or repair Windows through the official mechanisms instead.
What if I have 64-bit Windows?
A 64-bit system can run a 32-bit legacy camera application, but the DLL must match the application and be installed by the correct package. Do not place files randomly in System32 or SysWOW64, and do not assume a 64-bit Windows installation requires a 64-bit version of this historical DLL.
What if SFC cannot repair ovui2.dll?
First determine whether Windows actually owns the file in your installation. If the error belongs to old Logitech software, reinstall that software instead. If other Windows files are damaged, use DISM with a matching repair source, then SFC again; if that fails, use System Restore or Microsoft recovery options.
Should I use Windows Features?
Usually not. ovui2.dll is not identified as a .NET, DirectX, or Visual C++ feature component. Windows Features will not normally restore a legacy Logitech camera property-page file.
What is the safest final fix?
If you still use the camera, reinstall its exact official Logitech software or driver package. If Windows itself is damaged, run DISM followed by SFC. If the camera and software are obsolete, uninstalling the remaining Logitech components is often safer than restoring a DLL that no current program needs.
