If an Owncast stream keeps disconnecting while you broadcast over JioFiber, isolate the problem before blaming the ISP: check OBS’s connection and encoding stats, test over Ethernet, verify the Owncast RTMP address and encoder settings, then inspect Jio’s diagnostics and the Owncast server logs. A speed-test result alone cannot identify the failing link. Also, “YouTube” in the title does not establish that YouTube is the destination: Owncast receives an incoming RTMP broadcast, and OBS’s YouTube examples are comparison tests, not proof of where this stream is going.
1. Identify what is dropping
Write down when the interruption happens and what you see: OBS reporting dropped frames, OBS reporting rendering lag, the broadcast disconnecting, Owncast logs reporting an error, or only some viewers having trouble. These symptoms point to different parts of the chain. Open OBS’s View > Stats while broadcasting and note dropped frames and rendering lag. OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; rendering lag instead makes the streaming computer’s encoding or rendering capacity a priority.
Do not infer that JioFiber is responsible from one speed test. The available evidence does not establish a general JioFiber cause or diagnose this particular stream; the OBS stats, a wired test, Jio’s diagnostic results, and Owncast logs are needed to narrow it down.
2. Test the local network path
Try Ethernet before changing settings
Connect the streaming computer to the router with an Ethernet cable and run a short test using the same OBS settings. OBS recommends wired Ethernet for streaming because Wi-Fi can be unstable. If the stream becomes stable, Wi-Fi or another part of the local wireless path may be contributing. If it still drops, keep investigating the bitrate, router, ISP route, and server rather than treating the wired test as proof of an ISP fault.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Run JioFiber diagnostics in MyJio
- Open the MyJio app.
- Go to Home > JioCare > Run Diagnostics.
- Review the results for network health, router status, Wi-Fi strength, device connectivity, speed drops, loose cables, and configuration issues.
- Follow the on-screen troubleshooting. If diagnostics indicate a service-side fault and it persists, contact Jio.
3. Reduce bitrate to a stable level
In OBS, reduce the streaming bitrate and test again. If needed, lower output resolution or frame rate as well. OBS’s guide suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee: speed can vary, and the deciding evidence is whether the actual broadcast remains stable. Make one change at a time and observe the Stats window so you can tell which adjustment helped.
4. Verify the Owncast destination and encoding
Check the RTMP address and stream key
Owncast accepts RTMP on TCP port 1935 by default, with the stream key on the /live/ path. In OBS, compare the server address and key with the values shown for your Owncast instance. Check the destination, port, path, and key before changing router hardware; an incorrect endpoint or key/path can prevent a valid connection.

Match the encoder to the server
Owncast warns against sending a higher resolution or bitrate than the server can handle. Its documented examples include 720p at 30 fps and 3000 kbps, and 1080p at 30 fps and 4500 kbps. These are examples rather than universal requirements; the right settings depend on the server’s capacity and the stability of the broadcaster’s connection.
- Use H.264 video and AAC audio for the compatibility path documented by Owncast.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
- If the server cannot keep up, reduce the incoming resolution or bitrate rather than asking it to process more than its configured capacity.
5. Check the streaming computer and Owncast host
If OBS reports rendering lag
Investigate the broadcaster computer’s CPU and GPU load and OBS’s rendering or encoding stats. Rendering lag points toward local processing rather than, by itself, a JioFiber connection problem.

If OBS stays connected but Owncast reports errors
Review /admin/logs, the Owncast transcoder.log, and the server’s CPU and GPU usage. Owncast identifies broadcaster CPU/GPU, the local network, Owncast server load, and FFmpeg as relevant areas to investigate. Confirm that the server is using an appropriate current FFmpeg installation; errors or saturated server resources warrant checking the host’s processing capacity and configuration.
If only some viewers have trouble
If the broadcast remains connected but only some viewers report problems, examine Owncast’s stream-performance observations and those viewers’ network conditions. That pattern does not, on its own, implicate the broadcaster’s JioFiber connection.

6. Match the symptom to the next check
| What you observe | What it suggests | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS dropped frames or disconnects | The route to the ingest server may be unstable, or the bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity. | Test Ethernet and lower bitrate; reduce resolution or frame rate if needed. |
| OBS rendering lag | The streaming computer may not be keeping up with rendering or encoding. | Check OBS Stats and local CPU/GPU load. |
| Owncast or transcoder log errors, or saturated server hardware | Owncast processing or FFmpeg may be part of the problem. | Review /admin/logs, transcoder.log, host resource use, and FFmpeg. |
| Broadcast stays connected; only some viewers have trouble | The issue may be on the viewer side rather than the broadcaster’s connection. | Review Owncast stream-performance observations and viewer network conditions. |
| MyJio diagnostics flag Wi-Fi, router, cable, or speed issues | The local network or Jio service may need attention. | Follow MyJio’s troubleshooting and contact Jio if a service-side fault persists. |
