Choose Visage if you want a complete psychological-horror game that you can buy and play as a normal release. It is a finished first-person game built around slow exploration, a changing house, environmental clues, hostile entities and survival pressures such as fear, sanity and access to light.
Choose P.T. for its place in horror-game history. It was a playable teaser connected to the planned Silent Hills, not the released full game. Konami cancelled that project, and P.T. was removed from the PlayStation Store in 2015. It is therefore not a straightforward current purchase or a like-for-like alternative to Visage.

That uncertainty is the central limitation of any P.T. comparison. You can compare the playable teaser’s documented experience with Visage, but you cannot honestly compare Visage with a complete version of Silent Hills because no such released game exists.
Why P.T. remains important
P.T. became a major piece of horror-game history because it generated intense attention with a compact, unsettling scenario and because of the prominent creators attached to the cancelled project. For someone studying the evolution of psychological horror, its cultural impact may be more important than its length or availability.
That historical importance does not make it a practical recommendation for a new player seeking a normal purchase. Treat it as an archival experience whose status is unusual, not as a currently supported commercial game.

Its distribution ended in 2015
Game Informer reported that P.T. disappeared from the PlayStation Store on April 29, 2015. The explanation attributed to Konami was that the teaser’s distribution period and license usage had expired. As a result, it is not an ordinary item that a new PlayStation owner can simply find, buy and download from the store.
Unofficial copies and preservation efforts may be discussed elsewhere, but they should not be presented as an equivalent, officially distributed edition. Availability, legality and technical reliability can differ, so P.T. should not be the default answer for someone asking which game to play now.
What Visage actually offers
A completed first-person horror game
SadSquare released Visage as a full game for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in October 2020. The studio announced the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 availability for October 30, 2020, while the Steam product page lists October 29, 2020; regional release timing can differ. Current storefront listings and compatibility with newer hardware should be checked in the store for your country and device.

Steam describes it directly as “a first-person psychological horror game.” That label is useful because the design is not built around conventional combat. The main activity is moving through a house, interpreting what the environment is telling you and responding to threats that can emerge as the setting changes.
The house is the main stage
Visage’s store description emphasizes a changing house, subtle environmental storytelling and a slow pace. You are expected to notice details, connect clues and tolerate uncertainty rather than follow a constantly explicit objective marker. The house is not merely a backdrop for scripted scares; it is the environment through which the game communicates its story and pressure.
This makes Visage a better fit for players who enjoy examining rooms, revisiting spaces and assembling meaning from what they see. It is a less comfortable fit for anyone who needs a clear route, rapid rewards or frequent action.
Fear, sanity and light are part of survival
Xbox’s product description states: “In Visage, you are defenseless; no weapons could save you from the dreadful entities stalking you from the next corner, the next door, or underneath your feet.” That defenselessness changes the rhythm of play. You are not solving danger by collecting a stronger weapon; you are managing exposure, movement and your response to the environment.
The same description explains that fear attracts entities and that sanity must be managed. Seeking light is one strategy. These systems mean that simply standing still in an unsettling place is not a neutral choice. Observation and caution have a mechanical cost, not only an atmospheric one.

Because Visage’s threats and survival pressures are documented at the product-description level rather than through a single linear walkthrough, the most reliable expectation is broad: the game asks you to balance exploration with staying mentally and physically safe. Exact routes, triggers and solutions can vary by situation, so a player who dislikes experimentation should expect friction.

How the two experiences differ
Complete game versus concentrated teaser
The biggest difference is scope. P.T. was designed to create a memorable, tightly bounded teaser experience. Visage is a finished release with a larger environment and a full progression structure. If your question is “Which one should I spend an evening or several sessions playing?”, only Visage presents itself as the complete product in that category.
P.T.’s brevity and concentration are part of its appeal. It can function as a historical artifact or a discussion point about how a teaser can create mystery. Visage’s value comes from committing to a longer exploration of its house and systems.
Guided mystery versus sustained exploration
P.T. is remembered for directing attention toward a narrow set of repeating circumstances. Visage deliberately slows the player down and spreads its storytelling through environmental details. Since P.T. is no longer a normal storefront purchase, that preference cannot by itself make it the more practical recommendation.

P.T. is primarily discussed as a landmark in atmosphere, presentation and anticipation around a cancelled project. The available evidence does not establish a complete survival system for the unreleased Silent Hills, so it would be misleading to assign one to it.
Visage explicitly adds systems that shape how you behave: you are defenseless, fear can attract entities, sanity requires management and light can help. Those pressures turn psychological horror into a series of decisions about when to continue exploring and when to seek safety.

Visage’s Steam description warns that its pacing is deliberately slow and its difficulty unconventional. In practical terms, that means progress may depend on noticing a subtle clue or trying an action that is not announced in a conventional quest log. It has an established full release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, whereas P.T.’s PlayStation Store distribution ended in 2015. Store availability, price and compatibility can change by region and device generation, so confirm those details at the point of purchase.
If you are interested in horror history
P.T. may be the more significant subject. Its connection to Silent Hills, the involvement of Kojima and del Toro, the project’s cancellation and the 2015 delisting make it an important case in digital-game preservation and unfinished projects.
That recommendation is about historical interest, not access. A reader should understand the difference between wanting to learn about P.T. and expecting to obtain it as a standard current release.
If you enjoy slow, opaque exploration

If you prefer clear objectives or brisk action
Visage may frustrate you. Its design does not center on weapons or rapid encounters, and its difficulty is intentionally unconventional. P.T. can feel more concentrated, but its status as a delisted teaser means it is not a practical substitute for a conventional action-horror campaign.
If you want confirmed story continuity
Choose Visage, while recognizing that its story is delivered through the house and environmental details rather than a constant stream of explicit exposition. P.T. cannot supply confirmed continuity for Silent Hills because that full project was never released. Any claim that the teaser definitively reveals the finished game’s plot or mechanics goes beyond the available evidence.
How to approach Visage without the wrong expectations
Expect observation to be part of the challenge
Do not approach Visage as a corridor shooter with horror decoration. The official descriptions point toward exploration and environmental storytelling. Read the space, watch for changes and treat apparently minor details as potentially meaningful.
Accept that progress may be indirect
The warning about unconventional difficulty is important before you start. If you normally rely on objective markers or a clearly signposted sequence of tasks, you may need to experiment and reconsider what you have already seen. The slow pace is a design choice, not evidence that the game is malfunctioning.
Manage exposure rather than searching for weapons
Xbox describes the player as defenseless and identifies fear, sanity and light as central concerns. That means your decisions are about how and where you move, how long you remain exposed and when you look for safer conditions. Expect tension to come from vulnerability, not from building a powerful combat loadout.
Use the setting as information
The changing house is both the location and a storytelling instrument. A room, object or alteration in the environment may matter because of what it reveals, not because it starts a conventional combat encounter. Players who enjoy piecing together a place’s history will get more from Visage than players who rush from one jump scare to the next.

Verdict
Visage is the game most readers should play. It is a completed psychological-horror release with a documented PC and console launch, a full environment to investigate and mechanics that make fear, sanity, light and helplessness part of the challenge.
P.T. is the one to study or remember. Its importance comes from being a playable teaser for a cancelled project and from the unusual history of its 2015 delisting. It is not a released Silent Hills campaign, and the evidence does not justify treating it as a complete preview of how that unreleased game would have played.
