Corel Painter for Windows is a 64-bit application. The file is therefore normally relevant when the error appears while launching Corel Painter, updating it, or opening a damaged installation. If no Corel Painter installation exists, investigate startup entries, scheduled tasks, or remnants of an unofficial installation instead of trying to install the DLL by itself.

Public DLL-indexing pages show several variations, including “PainterCore64.dll Not Found” and “The program can’t start because paintercore64.dll is missing from your computer.” These are examples rather than confirmed wording for every Painter release. Read the complete Windows message because the named dependency may be more important than the filename shown in a search result.
Fix 1: Repair Corel Painter from Windows
Repair is the safest first step because it restores missing program files without immediately removing your user configuration.
- Close Corel Painter.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select any remaining Corel or Painter process and choose End task.
- Press
Windows+R, typeappwiz.cpl, and press Enter. - Select the installed Corel Painter entry.
- Choose Change, Modify, or Repair, depending on what the installer provides.
- Follow the prompts and allow the installer to restore the program.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Painter from its normal Start menu shortcut.
On some Windows 11 installations, you can instead open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, locate Corel Painter, select the three-dot menu, and choose Modify if that option is available. The Control Panel route is more consistent for older Painter releases.

Fix 2: Reinstall the exact Painter release
A matching filename is not enough. A DLL from a newer or older Painter release can cause entry-point errors, crashes, or compatibility messages even though the file appears to be correct.

Before uninstalling, back up custom brushes, workspaces, presets, templates, and unsaved artwork. Corel’s uninstall process can distinguish program files from user files, but removing user files can delete customized settings.
- Save your work and close Painter.
- Restart Windows before beginning the removal.
- Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the relevant Corel Painter entry.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the official removal process.
- Do not use a generic registry cleaner or manually delete registry keys.
- Download the installer for your licensed Painter version from Corel’s official download or support channel.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Install Painter using the normal 64-bit package.
- Restart Windows before launching it.
If the installer says that Painter is still installed, an old registration or damaged uninstall record may remain. Use Corel’s version-specific manual removal instructions rather than deleting arbitrary folders or registry entries.

Reinstallation worked if the Painter program directory is repopulated by the official installer and the application starts without requesting a separately downloaded DLL. Do not copy PainterCore64.dll from another computer, backup, or Painter release unless Corel’s support instructions explicitly identify that exact build.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a legitimate application DLL after a signature update. This is more likely when Painter came from an unofficial or modified package, but it can also happen after a false positive.
For Microsoft Defender:
- Open Start > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for a recent event involving Corel Painter or
PainterCore64.dll. - Open the event and review its path, detection name, and action.
- Restore the file only when the Painter installation is legitimate and the security product identifies the detection as a false positive.
- Run Painter’s repair option after restoration so the installed files are consistent.
For another antivirus product, open its quarantine or detection-history page and follow its restore and allow-list procedures. Do not disable protection simply to obtain a DLL from an unknown website.

Fix 4: Determine whether a dependency is actually missing
Sometimes PainterCore64.dll exists, but Windows cannot load it because one of its dependencies is absent or damaged. Look for the exact filename in the error dialog.
If Windows names VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or ucrtbase.dll:
- Open Microsoft’s Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.
- Download the current Microsoft Visual C++ package for the architecture named by the application. For 64-bit Painter, start with
vc_redist.x64.exe. - Run the installer.
- Choose Repair if it is already installed, or complete the installation if it is absent.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Painter again.
Installing Visual C++ does not restore PainterCore64.dll, because that file is a Corel Painter component, not a Visual C++ runtime DLL. Multiple Visual C++ runtime versions can coexist, and installing the newest package does not guarantee that every older application-specific dependency has been replaced.
Do not install DirectX or enable random Windows Features unless the complete error identifies a missing component that requires them. A DLL named PainterCore64.dll is not, by itself, evidence of a DirectX, .NET, or Windows Features problem.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when the installer is also failing
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows files and the Windows component store. They normally do not recreate a Corel-owned DLL, so use them when Painter’s installer fails, Windows shows broader corruption, or several unrelated applications are malfunctioning.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- In the same administrator window, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Run the official Corel Painter installer or repair operation again.
DISM should complete without an unrepaired component-store error, and SFC should report that it either found no integrity violations or repaired damaged Windows files. If SFC reports files it could not repair, restart and run it again only after addressing the DISM result. If Painter alone remains broken, return to the Painter repair or reinstall path rather than repeatedly running Windows repair commands.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while leaving the application installation untouched. Fix 6: Check architecture and driver-related failures
PainterCore64.dll is explicitly a 64-bit library. Do not place a 32-bit file beside the 64-bit Painter executable, and do not assume that 64-bit Windows makes every installed application 64-bit.

Windows+Iand open System > About. - Review System type.
- Check the Painter release and installer architecture in its official product documentation or installer information.
- If the error names a graphics or display component, open Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates and review driver updates.
- You can also right-click Start, choose Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click the graphics device, and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Painter.
A graphics driver update is relevant when Painter crashes during startup, reports a graphics initialization failure, or names a display-related DLL. It does not replace a missing PainterCore64.dll.
Manually checking every device and matching driver packages can be tedious, especially after a clean Windows installation. Do not copy PainterCore64.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Those directories are not general storage for application DLLs, and changing them can create conflicts or expose Windows to an untrusted binary.
Do not run this as a generic repair:
regsvr32 PainterCore64.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components. There is no reliable evidence that PainterCore64.dll is a self-registering COM DLL. An error stating that the entry point was not found means registration was never an appropriate repair.

A DLL download site may provide:
- The wrong Painter release
- A 32-bit file instead of the required 64-bit file
- A modified or malware-infected binary
- A file missing its companion libraries
- A replacement that hides the real installation problem
Even if the filename matches, the file may not match the Painter executable. Use Corel’s official download or support channel, the original licensed installer, or a legitimate launcher’s file-verification function. A launcher verification option applies only to the launcher that actually supplied Painter; it is not a general Windows feature.

- Confirm that the installed product is Corel Painter, not merely another Corel application.
- Check whether
