It is not a general Windows DLL, Visual C++ component, DirectX file, or .NET runtime file. The safest repair is to identify the Xerox device or utility that installed it and reinstall the complete package from Xerox Support.
Which fix applies to you
Use the first description that matches your situation:
- The error appears when scanning or opening Xerox software: reinstall the exact Xerox print-and-scan or WIA/TWAIN package.
- The error started after removing an old Xerox printer: remove the leftover Xerox utility or startup entry instead of replacing the DLL.
- Windows Security quarantined the file: verify its provenance, then restore it only if it came from a trusted Xerox installer.
- The file exists, but Windows says the specified module cannot be found: reinstall the full Xerox package because a dependency may be missing.
- The error began after a Windows upgrade or failed driver cleanup: remove the old Xerox device and software, then install the correct package again.
- You no longer use the Xerox device: remove the obsolete software and its startup entry.
- The error affects several unrelated applications: run Windows component checks after addressing the Xerox installation.
What xrwpcoin.dll does
Public driver inventories associate xrwpcoin.dll with Xerox software and files such as wiaxx002.inf, xrWCbgnd.dll, xrWCdev.dll, xrWPcpl.dll, and xrWPcpst.dll. That pattern is consistent with a Xerox driver-package or co-installer component rather than a standalone application library.

The filename alone cannot identify the exact WorkCentre model. Older WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro multifunction devices used dedicated WIA and TWAIN scanner drivers, so the affected package may be installed under a Windows-managed driver location rather than directly in C:WindowsSystem32.
A file catalog reports historical entries with version 4.33.7.3 in both 32-bit and 64-bit listings, with slightly different sizes. Those catalog entries are not a definitive Xerox version table. Do not choose a replacement based on file size, bitness, or a filename found in a search result.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Xerox scan package
This is the most likely solution when the error appears during scanning, printer utility startup, or Xerox device detection.
1. Identify the device and package
Check the physical label on the printer or scanner. Then inspect Windows:

- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Record the Xerox model name.
- Go back to Settings and select Apps.
- Open Installed apps.
- Search for
Xerox,WorkCentre,TWAIN, orWIA.
If the error dialog names an executable, note that program too. It may reveal which Xerox utility is still trying to load the DLL.
2. Remove the damaged Xerox installation
If the Xerox software is listed:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the relevant Xerox entry.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
On older Windows installations, use:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the Xerox software.
- Choose Uninstall.
Do not manually delete random folders from C:WindowsSystem32 or the Driver Store. Those folders can contain files used by other devices.
3. Install the matching package
Open Xerox Support and select:
- The exact WorkCentre model.
- Your installed Windows version.
- The Drivers category.
- The scanner, WIA/TWAIN, or combined print-and-scan package.
- The package marked appropriate or recommended for that model and Windows version.
Download the installer, right-click it, select Run as administrator, and complete the setup. Connect or power on the Xerox device when the installer requests it, not earlier unless Xerox’s instructions say otherwise.

A complete Xerox package may install printing, scanning, WIA/TWAIN support, fax functions, and utilities together. That is why replacing only xrwpcoin.dll often leaves the original problem unresolved.
4. Confirm the result
The repair worked if:
- The Xerox software opens without the DLL message.
- Windows lists the device under Printers & scanners.
- A scan completes through the Xerox utility or a WIA/TWAIN application.
- The error does not return after restarting Windows.
If the installer refuses to proceed, remove the old Xerox printer from Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, restart, and run the model-specific installer again.

Fix 2: Remove a stale startup reference
If the error appears at every boot but printing and scanning still work, Windows may be launching an obsolete Xerox utility.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Xerox, WorkCentre, scanner, or printer utilities.
- Select an obsolete entry.
- Choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Then check Settings → Apps → Installed apps and uninstall Xerox software you no longer use. If the error names a specific application, repair or remove that application instead of copying a DLL into a Windows folder.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a legitimate driver component, but the filename alone does not prove that a particular copy is safe.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand any detection involving
xrwpcoin.dllor Xerox software. - Review the detected file path, detection name, and action.
Restore or allow the file only when all of the following are true:

- You installed it from an official Xerox package.
- The file path belongs to that Xerox installation.
- The detection appears to be a false positive.
- The installer or file has credible publisher and package provenance.
Microsoft explains the consequences of restoring quarantined files in its Protection History guidance. After a verified restore, reinstall the complete Xerox package rather than relying on the restored DLL alone.

Do not create a permanent antivirus exclusion for an unknown DLL downloaded from the internet. If the detection is suspicious, leave the file quarantined, run a full scan, and obtain a fresh installer from Xerox.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components, then reinstall Xerox software
Windows servicing or driver-store corruption can prevent a legitimate Xerox package from installing correctly. These commands will not necessarily reconstruct a third-party Xerox DLL, but they can repair Windows components that block the installation.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent. SFC may report that it repaired files, found no integrity violations, or could not repair everything. Microsoft documents the command in its System File Checker guidance, while DISM usage is covered in Microsoft’s Windows image repair documentation.
Restart after both commands, then reinstall the exact Xerox scanner package. If DISM cannot find source files, use the matching Windows installation source and Microsoft’s documented /Source and /LimitAccess options rather than guessing at a repair image.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing which component changed can make troubleshooting circular. Outbyte PC Repair can show Windows issues found by its scan and its full-version repair is optional; it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Xerox package that owns xrwpcoin.dll.
Fix 5: Check the device and driver in Device Manager
Use Device Manager when the installer completes but the scanner is still unavailable.
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Imaging devices, Cameras, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Xerox device or a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
If the device is clearly an old Xerox entry:
- Right-click it.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver software.
- Confirm the uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the official Xerox installer again as administrator.
Do not remove unrelated devices merely because they use a different architecture. The correct 32-bit or 64-bit component is determined by the Xerox package, Windows version, and application. A 32-bit scanner component can legitimately be present on 64-bit Windows when an associated application requires it.

Windows Features usually does not contain xrwpcoin.dll. Do not enable random legacy components as a replacement. Only enable a Windows feature when the Xerox documentation for the exact model specifically requires it.

The message “Error loading xrwpcoin.dll. The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named file is absent. Windows may have found xrwpcoin.dll but failed to load another DLL or driver that it depends on.
This is more likely when:
- The file is visibly present.
- Replacing the file changes nothing.
- The error appeared after a partial uninstall.
- The scanner utility fails while other Xerox functions work.
Reinstall the complete Xerox package, then check:
- Event Viewer: press Windows + X, select Event Viewer, and inspect Windows Logs → Application.
- The Xerox installer log, if the installer provides one.
- Whether antivirus removes another Xerox component immediately after installation.
- Whether the installed package matches the exact model and Windows architecture.
Do not download the supposed dependency from a DLL-indexing website. The missing component may be another Xerox file, a driver service, or a package registration item.

Do not run this as a routine repair:
regsvr32 xrwpcoin.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide COM registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. xrwpcoin.dll is reported as a Xerox driver-package or co-installer component, not as a documented COM or ActiveX control.
The command may return an error stating that the module loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. That does not prove the file is corrupt. It means registration is not the repair this component expects.
Use regsvr32 only if Xerox documentation for the exact driver package explicitly instructs you to do so.
Why standalone DLL downloads are unsafe
Downloading xrwpcoin.dll by itself can install:
- The wrong architecture.
- An incompatible historical version.
- A modified or unsigned file.
- A DLL without its matching INF and catalog files.
- A file that still lacks another required dependency.
It can also conceal the real issue, such as a damaged Xerox installation, a stale startup entry, or antivirus removal. Never copy a downloaded DLL into System32 or overwrite a file in the Driver Store.

The safe sources are:
- The exact Xerox model’s official Drivers & Downloads page.
- The original Xerox installer retained by your organization.
- A trusted local backup or System Restore point.
- A verified enterprise software repository.
If the Xerox device is no longer supported
Some older WorkCentre models have driver packages intended for earlier Windows releases only. Do not assume that every model has a supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 package.
If Xerox provides no compatible current package, possible paths include using the last Xerox-supported driver in compatibility mode, using Windows’ built-in printer support for printing, trying a compatible WIA/TWAIN scanning path, or operating the legacy software in an older supported Windows environment.
If you no longer need the device, uninstall its software and remove the stale startup entry instead of trying to preserve xrwpcoin.dll.
FAQ
Is xrwpcoin.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Xerox WorkCentre printer and scanner software. Windows may store it in a managed driver location, but that does not make it part of the Windows operating system.
Can I fix it by copying the DLL to System32?

The practical repair sequence is to identify the WorkCentre model, remove the damaged Xerox installation, install the complete matching scan package, check quarantine, and use DISM and SFC only when Windows corruption is also suspected.
