Palkia or Dialga: Which Legendary Pokémon Is Better?

Neither Palkia nor Dialga is the objectively better Legendary Pokémon in every context. Choose Dialga if its time-centered lore, Steel/Dragon typing, or Pokémon Brilliant Diamond encounter suits you; choose Palkia for its space-centered lore, Water/Dragon typing, or Pokémon Shining Pearl encounter. Both also have Origin Formes in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

How do Dialga and Palkia differ?

The official Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl story page describes Dialga as the master of time and Palkia as the master of space, and identifies their standard typings and version encounters. The move descriptions and Origin Formes appear on the official Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokémon pages.

Which one should you choose?

Choose by lore

Dialga is the fit if the idea of a Pokémon associated with time is the draw; Palkia is the fit if space and its role in Sinnoh mythology appeal more. The official game page presents these as regional legends, not as a ranking of which Pokémon is stronger.

Choose by typing

Both are Dragon-types, but Dialga’s secondary type is Steel and Palkia’s is Water. That distinction changes their type interactions, so there is no universally better typing independent of the game, opponent, and team. The official Palkia Pokédex entry provides its typing and listed weaknesses.

Choose by version

In the remakes, Dialga is the Legendary encounter in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, while Palkia is the encounter in Pokémon Shining Pearl. If you are choosing between those versions mainly to encounter one of them, this is the clearest practical difference.

Choose by Origin Forme

Both Pokémon have an Origin Forme in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The official game pages associate Dialga with Roar of Time and Palkia with Spacial Rend. That gives you a reason to favor one form or move thematically, but the official descriptions cited here do not establish a general battle-performance winner.

Is Dialga or Palkia stronger in battle?

That depends on the specific game and battle format.
