Palworld version 1.0 launched on July 9, 2026, according to its Steam listing. Months earlier, Pocketpair publishing lead John “Bucky” Buckley said the update would reshape progression from the opening hours through the endgame—and recommended that returning players consider starting a new save. That was a preview, not a final changelog: the available sources do not establish exactly what shipped or provide definitive current save-compatibility guidance.
What did the publishing lead say about Palworld 1.0?
In an interview with GamesRadar+ at GDC, published March 15, 2026, John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s head of publishing and communications, described version 1.0 as a broad expansion across the game. He said the team aimed to expand the early game, flesh out the middle, and add substantial endgame content. He also said players should be surprised by the scale of the release, whose details were still secret at the time.
Buckley’s central point was that the planned changes touched the full progression arc. His exact description was: “You can jump into 1.0 with your existing character if you want to. We’re not force wiping anyone. You can jump in. But we are going to kind of softly recommend you start from scratch, because kind of everything is going to change from the beginning to the end – it’s all going to change.” The statement appears in GamesRadar+’s March interview coverage; it describes what the team expected before launch.
When did Palworld 1.0 come out?
Steam lists July 9, 2026 as Palworld’s release date and names Pocketpair as both developer and publisher. The game is described there as an open-world survival and crafting game, with single-player and online co-op among its features. The date confirms that 1.0 is no longer an upcoming release; it does not, by itself, identify the update’s complete contents.

Do you have to start a new save for Palworld 1.0?
In the March 2026 preview, Buckley said players would not be forced to wipe their characters and could continue with an existing one. He nevertheless recommended starting fresh so players could experience the planned changes from the beginning. He also warned that continuing an old save could mean missing some new content.
Those comments are useful context for the recommendation, but they are not definitive post-launch instructions. The sources available here do not include Pocketpair’s final patch notes or a final statement confirming save compatibility. Check Pocketpair’s release announcement or patch notes for current guidance before deciding whether to continue a particular save.

What did the 1.0 update actually change?
The interview established Buckley’s pre-release expectations, not a verified inventory of features that shipped. It supports saying that Pocketpair planned changes spanning early, middle, and endgame progression; it does not establish which additions or adjustments made it into the July release. The Steam listing confirms the game’s release date and basic description, but does not supply a detailed 1.0 changelog.
For a feature-by-feature account, use Pocketpair’s official release announcement and patch notes. Without that record, claims about specific additions or final save behavior should not be presented as confirmed.

Why the headline needs a post-launch update
The “it’s all going to change” line came from Buckley’s March interview and referred to the scope the team anticipated for 1.0. A related March 16 headline appeared at PC Guide. Since Steam now lists the game’s July 9 release, the useful question is no longer when 1.0 will arrive, but how the final release compares with that preview. The available sources establish the launch date and the earlier statements, not that final comparison.
