What changed in Palworld breeding after version 1.0?
Version 1.0 changed enough breeding data that old community charts should not be treated as authoritative. Palbreed reports that Pocketpair reviewed breeding combinations across the game, and current calculators warn that an Early Access route may produce a different child species now.
The scale of the current data is another reason to use a calculator. PalToolkit’s Palworld 1.0.5 database, updated September 29, 2026, covers 299 Pals, 44,850 parent-pair combinations and 136 fixed special recipes. PalworldBreedingGuide lists 44,851 parent-pair rows because its counting convention differs slightly. Those figures describe different database presentations, not a gameplay contradiction.
#1 Best Overall
Write the game version beside every recipe you publish to a server spreadsheet or Discord channel. Re-check the pair after each patch, especially when a recipe came from an older chart.
Breeding Farm requirements and setup
You cannot breed from an inventory menu. The farm must be built and supplied before an egg can appear.
Unlock and build the farm
- Reach Technology Level 19 and unlock the Breeding Farm.
- Build it with 10 Wooden Board, 20 Stone and 50 Fiber, as listed in PalworldCenter’s version 1.0.4 guide.
- Assign one male and one female Pal from your base to the farm.
- Place Cake in the farm’s chest.
Each egg consumes one Cake. Breeding stops when the chest runs out, so an apparently correct parent pair can look broken if the farm has no remaining Cake.
Gender rules and the current exception
Gender normally only determines whether a pair can breed; it does not select the child’s species. Katress plus Wixen is a documented exception. The result can be Katress Ignis or Wixen Noct depending on which parent is male, so record the sexes when posting that recipe.
What to check before starting a batch
- The farm is active and both assigned Pals are from your base.
- The chest contains at least one Cake for every egg you intend to hatch.
- The pair is confirmed in a current 1.0 calculator, not copied from an undated chart.
- Your server’s hatching and progression settings are written next to the recipe.
How Palworld chooses a child species
For two different species without a fixed special recipe, the game uses breeding power. Add the parents’ breeding-power values, add 1, divide by 2, and round down. The child is the Pal whose breeding-power value is closest to that result.
Two overrides take priority:
- A same-species pair always hatches that species.
- A fixed special recipe is checked instead of the average formula.
Worked examples
| Parents | Parent values | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Depresso + Lifmunk | 3,000 + 3,020 | Floor((3,000 + 3,020 + 1) ÷ 2) = 3,010 | Sparkit |
| Direhowl + Tanzee | 2,680 + 2,900 | Floor((2,680 + 2,900 + 1) ÷ 2) = 2,790 | Fuddler |
When two candidates are equally close, a tie can occur. A calculator that reads the game’s current table is safer than manually copying ranks and deciding the tie yourself.

Why manual charts fail
A static image can omit a fixed override, use a pre-1.0 rank, or hide a tie. It also cannot tell you whether the listed parents are accessible on your server. Use a chart as a discovery aid only; verify the exact pair in a current database before spending Cake.
Fixed special recipes worth knowing
Current 1.0 tables contain 136 fixed pairs that ignore the average breeding-power result. These examples illustrate why a reverse search must check special recipes first.
| Parent pair | Child | Recipe type |
|---|---|---|
| Kitsun + Nyafia | Kitsun Noct | Fixed special recipe |
| Incineram + Maraith | Incineram Noct | Fixed special recipe |
| Mau + Pengullet | Mau Cryst | Fixed special recipe |
| Caprity + Tarantriss | Caprity Noct | Fixed special recipe |
| Vanwyrm + Foxcicle | Vanwyrm Cryst | Fixed special recipe |
Legendary and powerful species
PalworldCenter’s version 1.0.4 table identifies Grizzbolt, Orserk and Faleris as examples of species that are same-species-only. To breed one, you must first obtain a male and a female of that exact Pal; no different-species shortcut replaces that requirement.
A server-friendly workflow for finding the best combo
“Best” depends on the job and on what your server already owns. A raid group may value a difficult legendary parent, while a new cooperative world needs an early-catch route that can produce many eggs. Use this sequence for either case.
1. Define the finished job
Write down whether the child is for combat, movement, ranch work, base work or the endpoint of a multi-generation chain. This prevents players from optimizing a strong passive set on a Pal that is the wrong species for the job.
2. Reverse-search the target child
Enter the desired child into a current calculator and list every parent pair. Start with fixed special recipes and same-species options, then inspect formula-based pairs. Do not begin with two Pals you happen to own and assume they can reach the target.
3. Compare the candidate routes
| Decision axis | What to record |
|---|---|
| Species certainty | Fixed recipe, same-species result or rank-formula result |
| Parent access | Already owned, early catch, raid or legendary requirement, or a multi-step chain |
| Trait quality | Useful passives and potential values on the parents |
| Egg efficiency | Cake consumed per egg, expected egg volume and number of hatches |
| Server fit | Hatching time, progression settings, player count and practicality for a shared world |
4. Verify the exact pair and genders
Open the calculator’s direct result for the chosen pair. Confirm the species, any special-recipe flag and the male/female assignment. This is essential for the Katress–Wixen exception and useful whenever several routes look identical.
5. Produce a proof batch
Use the smallest Cake stock that can demonstrate the species result. Hatch enough eggs to see whether the parents also supply useful traits. Keep the best child rather than treating the first successful egg as the final product.
6. Publish the route for the whole server
Record the target, parent pair, parent genders, role, Cake choice, game version, server platform and non-default rates in a shared spreadsheet or Discord post. A written route prevents several players from repeating the same obsolete chain.
Plan generations instead of chasing everything at once
A clean breeding line is easier to manage when each generation has one measurable purpose. In the first generation, prove that the chosen parents reliably produce the requested species. Save at least one child even if its traits are mediocre, because it confirms the route under your server’s current version.
In the next generation, consolidate passives. Pair the best child with a parent that supplies missing desirable traits while carrying as few unwanted traits as possible. Once the passive set is stable, use a separate generation for HP, Attack and Defense potentials. Mutation and stat-growth goals should come last unless a project specifically requires a mutated appearance or bonus immediately.
Keep two or more backup parents for an important line. A single failed pairing, accidental sale or bad trait roll should not force the entire group to recapture a rare parent. Label boxes or storage pages with the Pal’s species, gender, passives, potential values and generation number. This is particularly useful when several players are hatching eggs at once.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not judge a route from one egg. A successful species result proves the recipe, but one child cannot show the distribution of inherited passives or potentials. Hatch a planned batch, compare every candidate, and promote the strongest child to the next generation. Record the number of eggs and the Cake type so the group can compare local results without presenting them as universal odds.
Breeding passives, potentials and mutations
Once the species is proven, optimize inherited traits in separate generations. Trying to solve species, passives, potentials and mutations at the same time wastes eggs and makes failures hard to diagnose.
Passives
A child can carry up to four passives drawn from both parents. The PalCalc model cited by PalworldCenter assigns a 40% chance to inheriting one parent passive, 30% to inheriting two, 20% to inheriting three and 10% to inheriting four. These are modeled odds, not an official Pocketpair guarantee.
Remove unwanted passives from both parents before a serious batch. Every poor trait left in the inheritance pool can dilute the chance of getting the combination you want. Preserve a clean parent separately so a failed experimental pairing does not destroy your best line.
Rank #2
HP, Attack and Defense potentials
The same guide describes HP, Attack and Defense potentials, often called IVs. Its model gives a 50% chance of inheriting one potential, 33% two and 17% all three; remaining values are rolled. These figures are also modeled rather than an official promise. Hatch multiple eggs when chasing high potentials, and compare the resulting values instead of judging a line from one egg.
Mutated eggs in version 1.0
Version 1.0 added mutated eggs. Mutation likelihood and stat growth can be pursued after the species and passive line are stable. No exact mutation percentage is officially published in the cited descriptions or pinned data, so any guide claiming a precise universal rate is presenting an unsupported estimate.
Which Cake should your project use?
Cake is always required, but the type should match the bottleneck in the current generation. The cited sources describe effects qualitatively rather than with official percentages.
| Cake | Reported effect | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Mushroom Cake | Slightly raises the chance of higher-stat newborns | A potential-focused batch |
| Vegetable Cake | Produces two eggs | Increasing egg volume when Cake supply is the limiting factor |
| Deluxe Vegetable Cake | Improves mutation likelihood and stat growth | A mutation or growth-focused generation |
| Special Cake | Improves the chance of inheriting several parent passives | Combining a cleaned passive set |
Because the sources do not publish exact Cake percentages, plan with relative effects, not promises such as “this Cake gives a 25% mutation rate.” Track how many eggs each Cake produced on your own server, but label those observations as local results rather than universal mechanics.
Practical Cake logistics
Estimate Cake before assigning rare parents. One ordinary egg consumes one Cake, while a two-egg result can change how quickly your stock disappears. Put only the amount needed for the planned batch in the farm chest, then replenish it between batches; this makes consumption visible and prevents an unattended farm from using supplies intended for another project.
For a shared world, assign one player to Cake production and another to egg collection or hatching. Keep the Cake type in the project log, because comparing a Mushroom Cake batch with a Deluxe Vegetable Cake batch as if they were identical can lead to the wrong conclusion about a parent route.

The parent-child recipe is determined by current game data, while the server operator controls how quickly players can reach and hatch it. Pocketpair’s official server documentation says the configuration file is created only after the server has started.
Recommended Free Tools
- Start the server once so its directories and configuration files are generated.
- Copy the default settings file as instructed by Pocketpair’s server documentation.
- Edit
PalWorldSettings.ini, notDefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. Changes to the default file do not apply to the running server. - Set the parameters your community has agreed on, including
PalEggDefaultHatchingTimefor egg time. - Record the platform, game version and non-default rates beside every shared recipe.
Pocketpair documents other controls such as BaseCampWorkerMaxNum and GuildPlayerMaxNum. They affect the wider server experience rather than changing which child a parent pair produces. A fast hatch setting cannot make an outdated breeding chart correct.
How to present a reproducible server recipe
- State the server platform and Palworld version.
- List the exact parent species and genders.
- State whether the result is fixed, same-species or formula-based.
- Name the Cake used and whether the server uses a non-default egg-time setting.
- Include the date the calculator data was checked.
Common failures and fixes
The egg is the wrong species
First check for a 1.0 data change or a fixed special override. Re-enter the target in a current calculator rather than assuming the rank arithmetic was copied correctly.
No egg appears
Check that one male and one female Pal from the base are assigned to the farm and that Cake is in the farm chest. Breeding stops as soon as the Cake supply is exhausted.
The result changes when the parents are swapped
Most pairs are gender-agnostic, but Katress plus Wixen is a documented exception. Verify which parent is male before reproducing that route.

Prefer the calculator’s current table, note its database version and check whether the chart predates version 1.0. The difference may be a changed rank, a fixed recipe or a tie.
Good passives are disappearing
Remove unwanted traits from both parents and keep a clean backup. A child can inherit from the combined pool, so carrying a poor passive in either parent can dilute the desired set.
Hatching takes too long for a group project
Ask the server operator to review PalEggDefaultHatchingTime in PalWorldSettings.ini. Confirm that the operator edited the active settings file after the server created its directories; changing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini does not apply the rate.
Any compatible male and female can produce an egg, but the child depends on the current breeding-power table. Different-species pairs use the averaged value unless a fixed special recipe overrides it; same-species pairs hatch that species. Not reliably. Pocketpair reviewed combinations for version 1.0, and some old routes now produce a different species. Verify every pair in a calculator tied to your current game version. The Tool Desk Reverse-search the target and compare fixed recipes, same-species options and formula-based pairs. Choose the route with the best mix of species certainty, parent access, trait quality, Cake efficiency and server practicality. One Cake is consumed for each egg. Put Cake in the Breeding Farm chest, and remember that breeding stops when the chest is empty. Cake effects vary by type, but exact mutation and inheritance percentages are not officially published. The cited version 1.0.4 table lists these as same-species-only examples. You need one male and one female of the exact species before breeding them. Most pairs do not care which parent is male, but Katress plus Wixen is a documented exception. That pairing can produce Katress Ignis or Wixen Noct depending on the male parent. Quick wins for a faster PC: No. The 40/30/20/10 passive distribution and 50/33/17 potential model are estimates cited by PalworldCenter, not an official Pocketpair guarantee.
