If Palworld keeps crashing on your Steam Deck, start by updating SteamOS and restarting, then test the game after removing third-party variables. If that does not help, check the game’s compatibility notes, try a different Proton runtime, and lower graphics settings. These steps follow Valve’s general Steam Deck guidance; there is no confirmed universal fix for Palworld crashes on Deck, so the right branch depends on when and how your game fails.
Work through these low-risk checks first
Change one thing at a time and retest the same action that caused the crash. That makes it easier to identify whether a step helped. Valve’s troubleshooting guidance is general Steam Deck advice, not a Palworld-specific diagnosis.
1. Install SteamOS updates and restart
- Open Steam > Settings > System > Software Updates and install any available updates.
- Restart from the Software Updates screen or use Steam > Power > Restart.
- Launch Palworld and repeat the action that previously caused the crash.
Valve recommends updates and a restart when addressing Steam Deck system instability. Steam Deck – Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide
2. Temporarily disable third-party Desktop Mode applications
If you installed utilities in Desktop Mode, exit or disable them and restart the Deck before testing again. This is a diagnostic step, not a recommendation to remove software permanently: it helps determine whether another application is involved.

3. Check Palworld’s compatibility details
Look at Palworld’s Steam Store page or its entry in your library for the Deck rating and any specific compatibility notes. Valve uses the labels Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. Verified means, in Valve’s words, “The game works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box.” The rating describes compatibility, not a guarantee that every setup or game session will be crash-free; Valve’s review process is ongoing. Steam Deck Verified
4. Test a different Proton runtime if the crash persists
- In your Steam library, select Palworld and open Properties > Compatibility.
- Enable the option to force a compatibility tool, then select the latest Proton version available to you.
- Launch the game and repeat the same test.
- If this makes things worse, return to the Compatibility settings and undo the forced selection.
Changing Proton changes the runtime used to launch the game. Valve notes that forcing Proton may download the Windows version if only a Linux version is installed. Steam also advises trying the latest Proton for Steam apps when troubleshooting compatibility. Steam Deck – Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide

5. Reduce graphics settings
Try a lower graphics preset or reduce individual graphics settings, then check whether the crash still occurs. Valve includes lower graphics settings among its troubleshooting suggestions, but that does not establish that graphics load is the cause of a Palworld crash or that reducing it will resolve one.
Use the crash timing to narrow down what to report
Different failure points can call for different follow-up information. Note the exact step at which Palworld fails rather than describing every problem simply as “crashing.”

| When it crashes | Details to record |
|---|---|
| On launch | Whether the game opens at all, and which Proton version is selected. |
| While loading a world | Whether one world or every attempted world is affected. |
| During gameplay | What was happening just before the crash and whether the session was single-player or co-op. |
| While hosting or joining co-op | Whether you were hosting or joining, and whether the same failure happens in single-player. |
| After suspend or resume | Whether the game was suspended and what happened when you returned to it. |
These are diagnostic distinctions, not proven predictors of a particular fix. A July 11, 2026 community post, for example, describes an access-violation crash while hosting co-op; it cannot show how common that failure is or establish a fix for other Deck players. What Palworld’s PC requirements do—and do not—tell you
Steam’s Palworld listing gives Windows PC requirements, not a Steam Deck performance or crash guarantee. The listed minimums are an Intel Core i5-9400F, 16 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1660, DirectX 11, 40 GB available storage, and an SSD. Recommended specifications are an Intel Core i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Radeon RX 6700 XT, DirectX 11, and 40 GB available storage. Steam also notes that performance may vary with the number of active Pals. These figures do not identify the cause of a Deck crash. Palworld on Steam

Do not treat a narrow patch fix as a general Deck fix
A SteamDB mirror of Palworld v1.0.2 patch notes dated July 29, 2026, reports a fix for a crash involving Japanese text input in fullscreen. That is a specific issue; it does not establish a fix for unrelated Steam Deck crashes. Palworld v1.0.2 bug-fix notes
