Metacritic’s PC critic page lists Palworld at 78/100, or “Generally Favorable,” based on 15 reviews as of October 8, 2026. That is a PC-specific snapshot—not a rating for every platform or a player score. Critics generally praise the way exploration, creature collection, survival crafting, progression, and base building feed into one another, while some point to repetition and rough edges.
What is Palworld’s critic score?
As of October 8, 2026, Metacritic’s PC critic page shows a 78 Metascore and labels it “Generally Favorable.” The page counts 15 reviews: 13 positive (87%), two mixed (13%), and none negative. Because this is a small set of PC reviews, it is best read as a snapshot of those critics’ assessments, not a universal verdict.
Other aggregators report different figures. VideoGamesCritic lists a 77/100 press figure from 32 tracked reviews and also displays a Metacritic figure of 79. Its review set is not established as equivalent to Metacritic’s PC-only page, and the sources do not fully explain the differences. Keep the scores separate rather than averaging them or treating them as a direct contradiction.
What do critics praise about Palworld?
The strongest recurring appeal is the way several familiar genres support the same progression loop. Players explore an open world, collect Pals, gather materials, craft equipment, develop a base, and use their growing capabilities to push farther. Reviews on Metacritic praise the strategic depth and replayability that emerge from this combination, as well as how approachable its systems can feel.

Game8’s July 10, 2026 review, excerpted on Metacritic’s PC page, says: “Palworld succeeds by weaving together a wide range of survival mechanics into a gameplay loop that’s consistently rewarding and remarkably approachable.” PC Gamer reviewer Andrea Shearon likewise describes Pal management as functional and satisfying, and gives the game 9/10. Shearon’s verdict is that “Palworld has come a long way since early access, with the bones of a satisfying, iterative creature collector all here.”
What are the common reservations?
The criticisms in the cited reviews are about how the experience is executed, not one shared deal-breaker. Visible excerpts and review commentary raise issues including repetitive story structure or combat, a weak story for some reviewers, roughness, and lingering rough edges in base building. Some also find the game relentless or less effective in atmosphere. These are review-specific judgments, not a measured consensus across the whole critic sample.
That distinction matters if you are deciding whether its strengths suit you: the interlocking activities can make the game compelling, but they can also make its demands feel constant. If you want a tightly paced story or polished base-building above all else, the cited reservations deserve more weight than the aggregate alone suggests.

How do player reviews compare?
Steam’s customer reviews are a separate signal from critic ratings. When accessed on October 8, 2026, Steam’s English-language listing showed 95% positive across 183,767 reviews overall, and 95% positive across 5,877 reviews in the last 30 days. Those are user-review figures for Steam, not critic scores and not ratings for every platform. Both sentiment and review counts can change.
Why are there relatively few critic reviews for the 1.0 release?
The 1.0 review rollout had an unusual timing context. GamesRadar+ reported that John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s head of publishing and communications, said the studio did not send advance press keys because it wanted the 1.0 content to remain secret until release. Buckley also acknowledged that Palworld takes significant time to review. As he put it: “We weren’t really thinking about critic reception at all, and we wanted the content of 1.0 to remain a secret and unspoiled right up to release so…we kept it all pretty close to our chest!”
This helps explain the circumstances around review access; it does not establish that critics were biased or that the available score represents every critic’s view.

Which release date and platform does a review refer to?
Check the platform, version, date, review count, and aggregator before comparing a score. The listings do not use identical release dates: Metacritic’s details page lists July 10, 2026 as the initial release date and includes PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5. Steam lists July 9, 2026 as its release date and January 18, 2024 as the early-access release date. These are storefront-specific dates; neither should be silently substituted for the other.
For a current score, consult the relevant platform page directly: aggregates and review counts are live figures and may change after this October 8, 2026 snapshot.
