For most bases, a catchable rank-7 Pal such as Dupin or Flaracle is the more realistic choice. Jormuntide Ignis is another rank-7 option, while Blazamut is the practical pre-late-game recommendation from Palworld Hub. These rankings come from third-party guides using Palworld 1.0-era data, so check your current patch before relying on an exact location, level, or upgrade route.
Best Kindling Pals at a glance
The right answer depends on whether you want the highest theoretical work rank, a Pal you can actually obtain now, a multi-purpose base worker, or a worker that stays active through the night. The table separates those goals instead of treating one hard-to-get alpha as the universal answer.

| Pal | Listed Kindling rank | Best fit | Access and limitations reported by guides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renjishi | 8 | Highest listed base rank | Palworld Database reports one level-78 alpha and zero ordinary spawn points, making it an endgame target. |
| Dupin | 7 | High-rank general base worker | Listed as catchable by Palworld Database; PC Gamer lists Handiwork 5, Medicine Production 4 and Transporting 2 in addition to Kindling 7. |
| Flaracle | 7 | Catchable high-rank specialist | Palworld Database lists it as catchable; the guide lists no comparable secondary-work profile. |
| Jormuntide Ignis | 7 | High-rank late-game alternative | Palworld Hub lists Kindling 7. Mobalytics says it can reach rank 10 through condenser upgrades; confirm that mechanic in your current version. |
| Blazamut | 6 | Before late game | Palworld Hub calls it a practical pre-late-game pick and reports a minimum wild spawn level of 46; both details are version-sensitive. |
| Blazehowl Noct | 5 | Night-shift Kindling | Palworld Hub identifies it as its best nocturnal Kindling option. |
Rank is not an entry requirement. Palworld Database says all 17 structures that use Kindling require only rank 1 to operate. Higher rank improves work speed, so a lower-ranked Pal can still cook or smelt; it simply takes longer under comparable conditions.
What Kindling does in Palworld
Kindling is a Work Suitability used by base structures for tasks such as cooking food and smelting ore. Palworld Database counts 17 structures that use the job. Its 2026 guide also counts 44 of 288 listed Pals as having Kindling. Those are guide-maintained game-data figures rather than official Pocketpair statistics, and a patch can change either count.
#1 Best Overall
When a Pal with Kindling is assigned to a base, it can operate a compatible structure when a job is available. The suitability rank controls work speed, not whether the structure can be used at all. That distinction matters when you are deciding whether to replace an early worker: a rank-1 or rank-2 Pal is not locked out of a furnace or cooking station, but a higher-rank worker will finish jobs sooner.
Fire typing is common among Kindling workers, but it is not a rule. Palworld Database specifically notes that the non-Fire Pal Kitsun Noct can perform Kindling. Choose by the displayed Work Suitability and your base requirements rather than assuming every usable worker must be Fire type.

Renjishi: the highest listed rank, with the hardest acquisition
Renjishi leads the numerical ranking at Kindling 8. If your only criterion is the largest listed base rank before any upgrades, it is the answer. The practical qualification is substantial: Palworld Database reports a single level-78 alpha and no ordinary spawn points. That makes Renjishi a late-game collection goal rather than a normal progression recommendation.
A rank-8 worker is most valuable when your base constantly queues cooking or smelting jobs and you have already solved the access problem. It does not unlock a special class of structure; every Kindling structure still accepts rank 1. The benefit is faster work, so the value of pursuing Renjishi depends on how much of your playtime is spent waiting for those jobs.
Treat the reported level and availability as guide data, not a permanent rule. If a patch adds ordinary spawns, changes the alpha encounter, or adjusts suitability ranks, the cost-benefit calculation changes immediately. Check the Pal’s current in-game entry and current patch notes before planning an expedition around the level-78 report.
Rank-7 alternatives for most established bases
Dupin
Dupin is the strongest all-round recommendation when you want a high Kindling rank without making the rare Renjishi encounter your entire objective. Palworld Database lists Dupin as catchable with Kindling 7. PC Gamer additionally lists Handiwork 5, Medicine Production 4 and Transporting 2. Those extra suitabilities allow one Pal to contribute to several kinds of base work when priorities change.
Secondary suitabilities do not prove that Dupin cooks or smelts faster than another rank-7 Pal. They are a flexibility advantage: a base can make use of the same worker for other jobs instead of maintaining a separate specialist. If you need uninterrupted furnace output, keep the worker’s assignment focused and observe whether it abandons the station for another available task.
Flaracle
Flaracle is another listed rank-7 choice. The database guide describes it as catchable, which makes it more attainable than the lone Renjishi alpha for players who are still building their late-game roster. Palworld Database does not list a comparable set of secondary suitabilities, so select Flaracle primarily for its Kindling rank and your own access to it.
Jormuntide Ignis
Palworld Hub lists Jormuntide Ignis at Kindling 7. It therefore sits alongside Dupin and Flaracle as a high-rank alternative rather than below them on the base ranking. Mobalytics reports that condenser upgrades can raise Jormuntide Ignis to rank 10. Because upgrade rules can change, confirm the current condenser requirements and resulting rank in-game before spending breeding or capture resources.
Jormuntide Ignis is a good fit for a player who already owns one or who is deliberately building toward an upgraded specialist. It is not automatically the best first Kindling Pal simply because a guide lists a possible rank-10 endpoint: the time, duplicates and materials required for that endpoint are part of the decision.
Best Kindling Pal before the late game
Palworld Hub recommends Blazamut at Kindling 6 for players who are not yet in the late game. The same guide reports a minimum wild spawn level of 46. That level is a guide-reported floor and may vary with patches, world settings or the encounter being referenced, so verify the current requirement before treating it as a farming plan.
Blazamut’s appeal is timing. A rank-6 worker is meaningfully above the rank-1 minimum while remaining a more realistic target than a level-78 alpha. If your base is already producing a backlog of ingots or meals, moving to a rank-6 worker can improve throughput without waiting for the highest-tier collection targets.
Use the displayed suitability rank as your final check after capture. If the Pal’s current entry differs from the guide’s rank, trust the current game data and adjust the plan rather than assuming the old listing is still accurate.
Best Kindling Pal for overnight work
Palworld Hub identifies Blazehowl Noct, at Kindling 5, as its best nocturnal Kindling option. A night-focused worker matters when your base continues operating after sunset and you want cooking or smelting to continue without relying on a Pal whose routine changes at night.

Night suitability should be evaluated alongside rank. Blazehowl Noct’s listed rank is below the rank-6 and rank-7 choices, so its advantage is schedule coverage rather than maximum daytime speed. If your production queues are short or your workers regularly sleep through the night, the nocturnal option can provide more useful uptime even with a lower rank.
How to choose between the candidates
Use these checks in order. They prevent a theoretical ranking from overriding the constraints that actually determine your base’s output.
- Define the bottleneck. Count whether cooking, smelting or another Kindling structure is the job delaying your current routine. If no queue exists, a higher-rank capture may have little immediate value.
- Set an access ceiling. Decide whether you can realistically pursue a reported level-78 alpha, a catchable rank-7 Pal, or the rank-6 pre-late-game target. A Pal you can obtain now beats a stronger Pal that remains unavailable for your current progression.
- Compare the displayed rank. Rank 8 is the highest listed base value, followed by the rank-7 group, Blazamut at 6 and Blazehowl Noct at 5 in the cited guides.
- Check secondary work. Dupin’s reported Handiwork 5, Medicine Production 4 and Transporting 2 can reduce the number of workers you need, but do not assume those jobs increase its Kindling speed.
- Account for schedule. If production must continue overnight, include Blazehowl Noct’s nocturnal recommendation in the comparison instead of looking only at the daytime rank.
- Price in upgrades. Mobalytics reports rank-raising routes through the Pal Condenser and Applied Kindling Handbook. Confirm which route applies to the Pal and version you have before investing.
- Inspect practical fit. PC Gamer recommends considering work rank, partner skill and Pal size. A larger or differently shaped Pal may behave differently around your base layout, so leave room around stations and watch its pathing after assignment.
Putting a Kindling Pal to work at your base
The exact button prompts can differ by platform and patch, but the operating sequence is consistent. Use the current in-game Work Suitability display as the authority for the Pal you own.

- Identify the station. Check which cooking, smelting or other production structure is waiting for a Kindling task.
- Confirm the Pal’s suitability. Open the Pal’s information panel and verify that Kindling is present and note its current rank. Do not infer the rank from its species or element.
- Assign it to the base. Add the Pal to the active base roster using your platform’s base-management controls, then place or direct it toward the station according to the current interface.
- Remove competing priorities when necessary. A Pal with several suitabilities can choose another available job. If a furnace is being ignored, temporarily clear unrelated work or use the base’s assignment controls to prioritize the intended station.
- Observe one complete job. Watch the Pal start, perform and finish a task. This confirms that the station is reachable, fuel or ingredients are available and no pathing issue is interrupting work.
- Measure the real bottleneck. If the queue still grows, improve the worker rank, add another Kindling worker or change the station layout. Do not assume that replacing a rank-7 Pal with another rank-7 Pal will create a major speed difference without a demonstrated mechanic.
Because every Kindling structure accepts rank 1, an early worker remains useful as a stopgap. Replace it when the waiting time, not the label on the Pal, shows that Kindling is limiting production.
Understanding handbook and condenser upgrades
Mobalytics describes the Applied Kindling Handbook and Pal Condenser as upgrade paths for work suitability. Its guide reports that Renjishi and Jormuntide Ignis can reach rank 10 through condenser upgrades, while Dupin and Flaracle require a handbook to reach the top rank. These are version-specific mechanics and should be checked against the current item descriptions and upgrade screens.
The upgrade distinction changes how you value a capture. A Pal that begins at rank 7 may be a long-term project if the required handbook is available to you, while a Pal with a reported condenser path may require duplicates and a larger resource commitment. Do not spend rare materials solely because a guide lists a maximum rank; first confirm that the item exists in your version, that the Pal qualifies and that the resulting rank improves the station speed you need.
Keep an unupgraded backup until the upgraded worker proves reliable. If the upgrade consumes duplicates or removes a Pal from your available roster, losing your only active Kindling worker can leave the base without production while you rebuild the team.
Common mistakes and fixes
Choosing the highest rank without checking access
Renjishi’s rank-8 listing is useful for the ceiling, but the reported single level-78 alpha and zero ordinary spawn points make it a poor early recommendation. Fix the mistake by selecting the best catchable option available to your progression, then revisit Renjishi when the encounter is practical.
Assuming rank is required to unlock a station
All 17 Kindling structures in the Palworld Database guide require only rank 1. If a station is not working, check assignment, pathing, ingredients and the station’s state before hunting a higher-rank Pal.
Assuming every Kindling worker is Fire type
Kitsun Noct is the counterexample specifically noted by Palworld Database. Always read the Work Suitability panel; element alone is not a complete eligibility test.
Letting a multi-skill Pal leave the furnace
Dupin’s Handiwork, Medicine Production and Transporting suitabilities are useful, but they can create competing jobs. Clear or reprioritize those jobs when uninterrupted Kindling matters more than flexibility.

A practical decision guide
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want the highest listed base rank and are prepared for a rare endgame encounter. | Renjishi | It is the sole listed rank-8 Kindling Pal, but the reported level-78 alpha encounter is exceptionally restrictive. |
| You want a strong catchable worker for a mature base. | Dupin or Flaracle | Both are listed at rank 7 and described as catchable by the database guide. |
| You already have Jormuntide Ignis or plan a condenser project. | Jormuntide Ignis | Palworld Hub lists rank 7; Mobalytics reports a condenser route to rank 10. |
| You are progressing toward the late game and need a realistic upgrade. | Blazamut | Palworld Hub calls rank 6 practical before late game and reports a minimum wild level of 46. |
| Your base must keep working at night. | Blazehowl Noct | Palworld Hub names it the best nocturnal Kindling option at rank 5. |
| You need one worker to cover several base jobs. | Dupin | PC Gamer reports Kindling 7 plus Handiwork 5, Medicine Production 4 and Transporting 2. |
How the recommendation can change after a patch
The available rankings are guide-reported, not an official permanent tier list. A patch can alter a Pal’s Work Suitability, add or remove spawn points, change an alpha’s level, revise nocturnal behavior or adjust handbook and condenser rules. The safest habit is to verify the Pal’s current rank in your game, check the current encounter information and test one station before reorganizing an entire base.
Until those details change, the practical hierarchy is clear: pursue Renjishi for the rank-8 ceiling, use a catchable rank-7 Pal for most high-output bases, choose Blazamut as the reported pre-late-game step, and select Blazehowl Noct when night uptime is the deciding factor.
