What Palworld RCON is and what you need
RCON is the remote-console interface for a Palworld dedicated server. It lets an administrator send server commands without joining the game or using the server machine’s local console. You can announce maintenance, identify connected players, kick or ban them, move players, save the world, and stop the server in an orderly way.

Pocketpair’s server-settings table lists RCONEnabled and RCONPort for RCON, while RESTAPIEnabled and RESTAPIPort belong to the REST API. Enabling one does not enable the other.
Prerequisites
- Access to the dedicated server’s files and permission to restart it.
- An administrator password entered in
AdminPassword. - A chosen RCON port in
RCONPort. The official settings table does not establish a universal default, so use the value you configure. - An RCON client. This can be a command-line tool, a container-provided client, or a graphical client that supports Palworld’s RCON endpoint.
- Firewall, NAT, or hosting-panel access if the client is outside the server’s network.
Enable RCON in Palworld
Pocketpair’s Server Guide (version 1.0.4) distinguishes the default settings template from the active settings file. Only the active file is read when the server starts.

1. Create the active settings file on Windows
- Locate
DefaultPalWorldSettings.iniin the server installation. - Copy it to
PalSavedConfigWindowsServerPalWorldSettings.ini. Create the destination folders if your installation does not already contain them. - Open the copied
PalWorldSettings.iniin a text editor.
2. Create the active settings file on Linux
- Locate
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. - Copy it to
Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. - Edit that copied file, not the template.
Editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini alone has no effect. It is a template used to create the platform-specific saved configuration; the server reads the file in its saved-config directory.
3. Set the authentication and RCON values
In the active file, add or change these settings in the existing settings line:
AdminPassword=REPLACE_WITH_A_STRONG_PASSWORD
RCONEnabled=True
RCONPort=REPLACE_WITH_YOUR_CHOSEN_PORTKeep the syntax used by the rest of the file. If the file stores settings as one comma-separated line, preserve that format and change only the relevant key-value pairs. Do not create a second competing entry for the same key.
Choose a port that is not already occupied on the host. Record the exact value because the RCON client must use it; it is independent of the game connection port and of RESTAPIPort.
4. Save and restart
- Save
PalWorldSettings.ini. - Stop the dedicated server using your normal service, container, or host-panel procedure.
- Start it again so the configuration is loaded.
- Check the server startup output for configuration errors before attempting a remote connection.
A running process will not normally adopt edits made after startup. If a connection fails immediately after editing, confirm that the process was fully restarted and that you changed the active path for the correct operating system.

Make the configured port reachable
An RCON client needs a route to the server address and the configured RCON port. On a home-hosted machine, that can involve the operating-system firewall and router forwarding. On a managed host, it can involve a provider firewall or a panel rule. Add an inbound rule for the port you selected, and make sure the rule points to the machine running the Palworld process.

Do not expose an administrative port more broadly than necessary. Prefer an allow-list of trusted source addresses when your firewall or host supports it, and use a long, unique administrator password. If a provider does not let you edit PalWorldSettings.ini or manage the required port, RCON may not be available even if the game server itself runs normally.
When diagnosing access, first test from the same machine or private network as the server. A local success followed by a remote failure indicates routing or firewall configuration rather than a command or password problem. Avoid changing several settings at once: verify the active file, restart, confirm the listening port in the host controls, and then test the client.
Connect with an RCON client
Container-based server
A maintained Palworld server Docker reference shows this form for running its bundled client:
docker exec -it palworld-server rcon-cli "<command> <value>"Replace palworld-server with the actual container name. For a command with no argument, omit the value, for example docker exec -it palworld-server rcon-cli "Info". The exact quoting rules are those of the shell and client in use; a command that works in one environment may need different quotation marks in another.

Standalone command-line client
A community standalone CLI documents the equivalent connection shape as:
<IPAddress:RCONPort> <AdminPassword> <command> [args]For example, the placeholders are replaced with the server address, the numeric RCON port from PalWorldSettings.ini, the administrator password, and a command such as ShowPlayers. The documented tool supports Windows and Linux. Consult the client’s own help output for installation, escaping, and whether passwords are exposed in shell history.
Graphical clients and automation
A graphical client can be convenient for occasional moderation, while a CLI is easier to script for scheduled announcements or maintenance. Before choosing one, verify that it supports Palworld’s command syntax, lets you enter the configured address and port, and handles spaces in message text. Do not assume that every third-party client uses identical quoting, authentication prompts, or transport behavior; the published examples differ by client.

Command names and capitalization should be entered as documented by your client. If Pocketpair adds commands after the Server Guide version cited above, check Pocketpair’s current commands documentation before assuming this table is exhaustive.

How to use the commands safely
Identify a player before moderation or teleporting
- Send
ShowPlayers. - Find the intended player’s SteamID in the returned connected-player information. The way an identifier is displayed depends on the client.
- Copy the identifier exactly, without surrounding punctuation.
- Use it with
KickPlayer,BanPlayer,TeleportToPlayer, orTeleportToMe.
Using a display name instead of the identifier can target the wrong person or fail. Re-run ShowPlayers if the player reconnects or if several people have similar names.
Kick versus ban
KickPlayer removes a player from the current session. BanPlayer is the persistent moderation action in this list. Confirm the SteamID before banning, and keep a record of the reason in your staff notes. To reverse that action, send UnBanPlayer with the same SteamID.
Broadcast a maintenance notice
Use Broadcast for a message all connected players should see. If the text contains spaces, quote the message according to your client’s syntax, for example:
Broadcast "Server maintenance begins in 10 minutes"The quotation marks in this example are shell/client syntax, not part of the displayed message. If your client treats the text differently, use its documented escape rules.
Save before planned downtime
Send Save before a planned stop so the current world data is written. Then schedule a grace period with Shutdown, supplying a number of seconds and, optionally, a player-facing message:

Save
Shutdown 60 "Server restarting in 60 seconds"The delay gives players time to leave. Use DoExit only when an immediate stop is required; it does not provide the warning period that Shutdown does.
Teleport administrators and players
TeleportToPlayer moves the administrator to the selected SteamID. TeleportToMe moves that player to the administrator. Both require the target identifier, so begin with ShowPlayers and verify the result before sending the teleport command.
Inspect the server
Info returns server information and is useful as a basic connectivity test after login. It does not replace host-level logs when you are diagnosing a failed startup or a blocked port.
Common failures and fixes

Choosing an RCON client or host
The best option depends on whether you administer one server manually or several servers through automation. Evaluate these points before committing:
