If Palworld rejects your admin password or says it is not set, the usual cause is that the value was written to the wrong file, the server was not restarted, or you are using the player join password instead of the administrator credential. Stop the dedicated server, edit the active PalWorldSettings.ini, set AdminPassword="your-password", save it, start the server again, and authenticate in game with /AdminPassword your-password.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
The same shared admin password is also used by RCON, but RCON has separate enable and port settings. Direct IP joins and Community server-list joins can behave differently for password-protected servers, so the connection route matters when the configuration is correct but joining still fails.

Use this sequence for a normal dedicated server. Changing a value while the process is running, or changing a template file instead of the live configuration, can leave the server using the old value.
- Stop the dedicated server completely. Use the server process or your hosting panel’s Stop control and wait until it reports that the process has ended.
- Open the saved configuration directory. On Windows, look under
Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/. On Linux, usePal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/. - Edit
PalWorldSettings.ini. Add or change the setting so it containsAdminPassword="your-password", replacing the example with the password you intend to use. - Save the file while the server is stopped. Do not make the change only in
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini; that template does not apply a change to the running configuration. - Start the server and wait for it to finish loading. A full stop-and-start is required for the process to read the changed value.
- Join the server and authenticate. In the in-game chat, enter
/AdminPassword your-password, using exactly the value in the active INI file.
Palworld uses one shared administrator password rather than separate administrator accounts. Anyone who knows that value can attempt to obtain administrator privileges, so treat it as a server credential and do not paste it into public chat or configuration screenshots.

Know which password controls which action
Two similarly named settings serve different purposes. The parameter reference defines AdminPassword as the password used to obtain administrative privileges. ServerPassword is the password required to join the server as a player. Changing the latter will not make administrator commands work.
| Setting | What it controls | Where it is used | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|
AdminPassword |
Administrator authentication | In-game /AdminPassword command and RCON authentication |
It does not replace the player join password |
ServerPassword |
Whether a player may join a password-protected server | Join prompt or connection flow | It does not grant administrative privileges |
RCONEnabled |
Whether the remote console endpoint is available | RCON clients | It does not set the RCON credential |
RCONPort |
The network port used by RCON | RCON clients and firewall or port-forwarding rules | It does not enable RCON by itself |
If players can join but /AdminPassword is rejected, investigate AdminPassword and the reload sequence. If players cannot join at all, investigate ServerPassword and the connection route separately.

Find the live configuration file
Windows dedicated servers
Stop the server first, then open the saved Windows configuration directory: Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/. The file you need is PalWorldSettings.ini. The directory may not exist until the dedicated server has started at least once, because the server creates its saved configuration structure during startup.
Linux dedicated servers
For a Linux server, use Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ and edit the PalWorldSettings.ini stored there. The directory name is different from the Windows path, so copying a Windows path into a Linux service or container will not locate the active file.

Why the default file is a trap
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini is a template, not the live settings file for an already-created server. Editing it may appear successful because the text is saved, yet the running world continues to read its generated PalWorldSettings.ini. Always verify that the line exists in the saved configuration directory for the platform hosting the world.
Check for an old duplicate
When a password change appears to have no effect, compare the file you edited with the path used by the service or panel to launch the server. A second installation, test world, or copied server directory can contain another INI with a different value. The authoritative file is the one in the saved configuration directory used by the instance you actually start.
Reload the setting correctly
Palworld reads its server settings into the running process. Saving an INI file does not force that process to reread the file. The reliable reload is a complete stop, save, and start cycle.
- Stop the server and wait for the process to exit rather than immediately editing while it is shutting down.
- Open the active
PalWorldSettings.iniand confirm theAdminPasswordvalue is present. - Save the file without changing the spelling of the parameter name.
- Start the server again and wait until it is accepting connections.
- Join and run
/AdminPassword your-password.
If a hosting panel has separate Save and Restart controls, use both: save the configuration first, then restart the server. A panel that displays an Admin or RCon Password field may write the INI for you, but the underlying requirement is unchanged—the server must be stopped or restarted so the new value is loaded.

Use the in-game command exactly
After joining the world, enter the command in chat using this form:
/AdminPassword your-password
Replace your-password with the configured value; do not include the angle brackets shown in explanatory examples. Include the leading slash and a space between the command and password. The command is an authentication step: setting the INI value alone does not authenticate your current player session.
If the command fails, check the value in the active file rather than relying on memory or a panel label. A player join password can be valid while the administrator password is different. Also make sure you rejoined the instance that you restarted; a similarly named community server or another local world may be using a different configuration.
Diagnose RCON separately
RCON is a separate access path. It uses the shared AdminPassword, but it also requires RCON to be enabled and reachable on the configured port. A correct in-game login does not prove that an RCON endpoint is listening, and an RCON connection failure does not necessarily mean the admin password is wrong.

RCON checks
- Confirm
RCONEnabledis enabled in the active server settings. - Read
RCONPortfrom that same configuration and enter that port in the RCON client. - Use the address of the running server, not an unrelated panel address or a different machine.
- Enter the same
AdminPasswordthat works with the in-game authentication command. - Check firewall rules, security groups, and port forwarding if the client cannot reach the endpoint at all.
- Restart the server after changing any of these values.
These checks separate three failure types: a rejected credential, a disabled RCON service, and a network path that never reaches the service. Treating all three as a password problem leads to unnecessary password changes.

Container and environment-variable deployments
Containers and managed panels may not expose the INI directly. In the documented environment mapping, ADMIN_PASSWORD maps to AdminPassword, while RCON_ENABLED maps to RCONEnabled. Set the environment variables in the deployment configuration, recreate or restart the container as required by that platform, and then verify the resulting server settings.
Do not set an environment variable in one container while connecting to another container or an older deployment. Confirm the container name, world instance, published RCON port, and restart timestamp before testing. If the platform generates PalWorldSettings.ini on startup, a manual edit inside a disposable container may disappear when it is recreated; use the platform’s persistent environment or configuration mechanism instead.
When a password-protected server will not join directly
Palworld supports connecting to a dedicated server by IP and port and also selecting a server through the Community server list. Those routes are not always interchangeable for password-protected servers. Current hosting documentation describes cases in which direct connect or a recent-server entry times out or reports an empty-password error even though joining from the Community listing works.

- Perform new and powerful moves as “Big-fig” characters like Hulk and Abomination. Leave a path of destruction as you smash through Lego walls and throw cars using hyper strength.
Try the Community listing
- Confirm the server is running and visible in the Community server list.
- Search for the server’s listing and select it instead of using a saved recent entry.
- Enter the player join password if the server uses
ServerPassword. - After loading into the world, authenticate separately with
/AdminPassword your-password.
This workaround addresses the connection route; it does not change the administrator credential. If the server is absent from the listing, return to the server status, query-port, and visibility settings rather than repeatedly changing AdminPassword.

Common mistakes to eliminate
- Editing
DefaultPalWorldSettings.inionly: the running world reads the generated saved file instead. - Changing
ServerPasswordwhen you need admin access: that setting controls joining, not privileges. - Skipping the restart: a live process continues using the settings it loaded at startup.
- Typing the command without the slash or with the wrong value: use
/AdminPassword your-passwordand match the active INI exactly. - Assuming RCON is automatically available: it has its own enable flag and port.
- Testing a different instance: a second world, container, or server address may have a separate configuration.
- Assuming a universal password rule: no current official statement establishes a universal minimum length or character requirement, so do not rely on an unverified rule as the explanation.
A repeatable administrator checklist
Use this checklist whenever you rotate the credential or move a world to another machine:
- Record which platform hosts the instance: Windows, Linux, or a containerized deployment.
- Identify the active saved configuration location for that instance.
- Set
AdminPasswordthere, keepingServerPasswordconceptually separate. - If using a container or panel, set the persistent
ADMIN_PASSWORDvalue instead of editing an ephemeral file. - Stop the server, save the change, and start it again.
- Test in game with
/AdminPassword your-password. - If RCON is needed, verify
RCONEnabled,RCONPort, address, firewall, and the same admin password. - If a password-protected join fails by IP, test the Community server listing.
Keeping this sequence consistent prevents the most common split-brain configuration: one password shown in a panel, another in the active INI, and a third assumption made by the RCON client.
When a managed panel is preferable
Administrators who do not want to maintain INI files can use a managed Palworld server panel that exposes Admin or RCON Password fields and provides Stop, Save, and Restart controls. The panel still needs to write the setting for the correct world and perform a real restart; a convenient interface does not remove those underlying requirements. Before relying on it, verify which instance the panel controls, where it stores persistent configuration, and whether container recreation preserves the value.
Final diagnosis
Most “admin password not working” reports are configuration-location or reload problems, not evidence that Palworld requires a special password format. Put AdminPassword in the active saved PalWorldSettings.ini (or the deployment’s persistent ADMIN_PASSWORD variable), stop and restart the server, and authenticate with /AdminPassword your-password. Handle player joining, RCON connectivity, and direct-versus-Community-list connections as separate checks.
