What happened during Palworld’s launch weekend?
Palworld launched on January 19, 2024. The next day, Pocketpair said a problem with the Epic Games backend had arisen while players were trying to host co-op. The developer said the issue occurred after the game passed 700,000 concurrent players, and that it held an emergency meeting with Epic.

In its January 20 update, Pocketpair said: “The number of players exceeded 700,000 concurrent players, and a problem occurred in the Epic Games backend.” The developer added: “We had an emergency meeting with the Epic Games team and had them add an update to the Epic…” Dexerto’s displayed quotation ends there, so the omitted words cannot be confirmed from that report.
Pocketpair also said players should see better connectivity and fewer errors as the backend update took effect: “You should notice an improvement in connectivity and the errors should start to disappear shortly,” the developer said, as quoted by Dexerto on January 21, 2024.

What did Epic say caused the connection problem?
Insider Gaming reported on January 20, 2024, that Epic told the outlet Palworld had “hit a preconfigured limit on the backend” and that the problem had been resolved. That is Epic’s explanation as relayed by Insider Gaming; the report does not provide a direct public statement from Epic.
The accounts point to a backend limit encountered during an exceptional launch surge, followed by an update to Epic’s backend. They do not establish the cause of any connection issue players might encounter now.

The numbers reported over those days describe different measurements and snapshots. Pocketpair’s figure refers to concurrent players when it described the backend problem; the other figures are Steam peak-concurrency reports or a broader player-count milestone.

The 844,145 and above-850,000 figures are not necessarily contradictory: they were reported on different days as Steam peaks. Neither should be confused with Pocketpair’s 700,000-plus concurrent-player statement or the two-million total-player milestone.

Does this confirm Palworld is still having problems?
No. These reports document a launch-weekend incident in January 2024 and say the backend issue was addressed at the time. They do not establish Palworld’s current concurrent-player count, current backend status, or whether co-op connectivity is working normally in October 2026.
