Panic at the Dojo is a tabletop roleplaying game built around tactical martial-arts fights. The creator describes it as a game for 3–5 players, with customizable fighting styles, stance-based combat, and a whimsical modern setting where everyday disputes can escalate into elaborate battles. The creator’s storefront currently offers the first-edition PDF and a second-edition beta preview; separate patches update the first-edition rules.
What is Panic at the Dojo?
Panic at the Dojo is a combat-focused tabletop roleplaying game by Vel Mini, also known as liberigothica. Its modern-world premise treats martial arts as a routine way to settle personal conflicts, while magic exists “a little bit.” Overdue rent, petty theft, and household disagreements can all become high-level fights.
The creator pitches the tone as “Basically, imagine if the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon was a documentary, and also a tactical combat focused tabletop game.” The game is listed for 3–5 players. That description and player count come from the creator’s storefront.
How does combat work?
Combat revolves around positioning, action order, and changing stances. Each stance offers its own bonuses and actions, so choosing one shapes what a character can do on a turn.

- For 1-4 players
- 90 minute playing time
- You're the best around, now prove it in the ring.
- Train students. Compete for honor. Earn Prestige
- Choose a stance. The stance determines which Action Dice a character rolls and which actions are available.
- Roll and spend Action Dice. Players use the results to power actions. Dice affect how strong an action is, not whether it succeeds: the creator says, “Your actions never miss – your dice determine how powerful they are, not whether or not they work at all.”
- Use positioning and action order. Where characters are and the sequence in which they act affect how attacks and movement chain together.
- Take turns as a side. Heroes and Enemies alternate turns. When a side acts, its players choose which character goes next; each character receives one turn per round.
This makes the game tactical without relying on hit-or-miss attack rolls as described by the creator. The storefront presents it as combat-focused, but does not establish a detailed campaign structure or provide a comprehensive comparison with other roleplaying games.
Which rules version should you use?
The creator’s storefront lists a first-edition PDF, a second-edition beta preview, and print availability through DriveThruRPG. A separate first-edition patch document is intended to be used alongside the first-edition book.

| Second-edition beta | A beta preview listed on the storefront. | The February 20, 2026 update says this preview will not receive further updates. The creator has not given a confirmed completion or release date, so treat it as a preview rather than a scheduled full edition. |
| A print option identified by the storefront. | The storefront points to DriveThruRPG for print availability; check the listing for current stock and terms. |
If you want the first-edition rules, consult the patches as well as the book. If you want to try the newer direction, the beta is available as a preview, but it is not being updated further according to the creator’s latest cited update. The storefront’s older wording about a second edition arriving “in a few months” is not a reliable schedule in light of that later update. The creator also replied to a storefront question about timing: “2e is still in the works. I am not certain when exactly it will be finished.”
