The Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has 58 recipes, one more than the GameCube original’s 57: the remake-exclusive Hottest Dog. To cook more than one ingredient at a time, unlock Zess T. with a Contact Lens, then give her the Cookbook after Chapter 4. These are recipes made from fictional in-game items, not real-world cooking instructions.
How to unlock Zess T.’s cooking
- Finish Chapter 1. After Chapter 1, the replacement Contact Lens becomes available for 10 Coins.
- Return the Contact Lens to Zess T. Take it to her in the Rogueport area to unlock her cooking service. At first, she cooks one ingredient at a time.
Cooking can restore health and provide items useful for some side quests. Bring Zess T. an ingredient and she will prepare the corresponding dish.
How to unlock two-ingredient recipes
- Complete Chapter 4. This unlocks Zess T.’s Trouble Center request.
- Accept her request and retrieve the Cookbook. Find it in the treasure room at Creepy Steeple.
- Return the Cookbook to Zess T. Once she has it, she can cook with multiple ingredients.
Without the Cookbook, recipes requiring two items cannot be prepared, even if you already have both ingredients.

- Shroom Fry: Mushroom or Super Shroom.

- Spaghetti: Fresh Pasta.
- Hottest Dog: Hot Sauce plus Hot Dog. This recipe appears in the Nintendo Switch remake, not the GameCube version.

Open the in-game Journal and check its Recipe section. It records the recipe names and ingredients for dishes you have cooked, making it the practical checklist for tracking your collection. The total to aim for is 57 in the GameCube game or 58 in the Switch remake.
