Its central hook is a world made of paper: fold and join parts of the landscape to open routes and solve puzzles. Reviews point to imaginative puzzle design, striking art and atmosphere as its main draws, while warning that some challenges can be tough and console controls may feel finicky. This is the game—not the separate Paper Trail wedding stationery business.
What is Paper Trail?
Developed and published by Newfangled Games, Paper Trail is a top-down puzzle-adventure. Paige’s journey away from home provides the story, while the puzzles turn the world itself into the main tool: folding the paper-like environment can connect separated spaces or reveal a way forward. Metacritic’s game page describes this premise and the game’s release and platform information.
What do reviews say about Paper Trail?
The review picture is of a distinctive, artful puzzle game whose folding concept gives it much of its appeal. Critics cited on Metacritic praise its idea and visual design, as well as its atmosphere. The main qualification is difficulty: one review describes some levels as a struggle, and another critic says the console controls can feel finicky. Those are individual reviewers’ observations, not a claim that every player will have the same experience.
On the Metacritic page retrieved on October 8, 2026, Paper Trail has a 75 Metascore based on 12 critic reviews and an 8.8 user score based on 118 ratings. These are page snapshots, not permanent ratings; the user score reflects the users who submitted ratings there, not all players.

Is Paper Trail worth playing?
It looks like a good fit if you enjoy puzzle-adventures that ask you to manipulate the environment rather than simply follow a path, and if an illustrated, atmospheric presentation appeals to you. The central fold-and-connect mechanic is the clearest reason to try it. If you prefer puzzles that move quickly or find awkward console input especially frustrating, the reported challenge and control concerns are worth weighing. The available review evidence does not establish how those controls compare across platforms, so check the specific version and input method before choosing.
What platforms is Paper Trail on?
Metacritic lists the game for PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. GameFAQs also lists Android among its platform categories. Because platform metadata differs between those sources, and a category listing does not confirm a current store listing, check the storefront for your device before buying. The available information does not establish current prices, edition contents, performance differences or present availability by platform.
