parsedvd.dll Startup Errors: Rebuild the Right AnvSoft App

Length9 min Posted Quest giverVGSources Team

“parsedvd.dll is missing” and other errors

Windows may display one of these messages:

  • “The program can’t start because parsedvd.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “The code execution cannot proceed because parsedvd.dll was not found.”
  • “Error loading parsedvd.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “parsedvd.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
  • “Cannot find parsedvd.dll.”

The filename may also appear as ParseDVD.dll. Capitalization does not normally indicate a different file.

The 60-second answer

parsedvd.dll is not a normal Windows system file. Public installed-file inventories associate it with older Windows editions of AnvSoft applications, including Any Video Converter, Any Video Converter Professional or Ultimate, and Any DVD Converter Professional.

The safest fix is to identify the program named in the error, uninstall that application, restart Windows, and reinstall the same product family from AnvSoft’s official installer. Do not download an isolated copy from a random DLL website or place it in System32.

The file is normally stored beside the affected application, in a path similar to:

C:Program Files (x86)AnvsoftAny Video Converter
C:Program FilesAnvSoftAny DVD Converter Professional

The exact folder depends on the product and installation.

What causes the error

The likely causes, in order, are:

  1. The application installation is incomplete or damaged.
  2. Antivirus software quarantined or deleted the DLL.
  3. A partial update left files from different releases.
  4. The shortcut starts an older copy of the application.
  5. The error names a missing dependency rather than parsedvd.dll itself.
  6. The installation came from an unofficial repack or modified portable build.
  7. Windows has broader component corruption.

parsedvd.dll is an application-local file, not a DLL that Windows normally expects in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Public records suggest that older copies are commonly 32-bit, but the exact version, build, size, checksum, and architecture of a particular installation should not be assumed from a file-listing page.

Fix 1: Identify the application and reinstall it

Start here unless the error clearly names a different program.

Find the affected executable

  1. Read the error dialog carefully. It may identify Any Video Converter or Any DVD Converter.
  2. Right-click the shortcut you normally use.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Read the Target field.
  5. Note the executable and its containing folder.
  6. Click Open File Location if that button is available.

Look in that folder for parsedvd.dll or ParseDVD.dll. If it is absent, the installation is incomplete. If it is present but Windows still refuses to load the program, the file may be corrupted, blocked, incompatible with the executable, or missing one of its dependencies.

Repair or uninstall

Some Windows installations expose a repair action:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Find Any Video Converter or Any DVD Converter.
  5. Open its menu and choose Advanced options, if available.
  6. Select Repair.

The Repair option is not available for every desktop installer. If it is missing, uninstall the application instead:

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find the affected AnvSoft program.
  3. Select its menu and choose Uninstall.
  4. On older Windows versions, open Control Panel → Programs and Features and uninstall it there.
  5. Restart Windows.

Download the same product family again from AnvSoft’s official download channel or official product page. Reinstall Any Video Converter with Any Video Converter, or Any DVD Converter with Any DVD Converter. Do not combine files from different editions, copied program folders, or unofficial repacks.

Launch the application after installation. If it starts normally and the new installation folder contains the DLL, this was an application repair problem rather than a Windows DLL problem.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything

An antivirus product may have removed the file. Do not immediately disable protection or restore the item solely because the application is missing it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In Windows Security:

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections and quarantined items.
  5. Expand any detection related to the AnvSoft installation.
  6. Check the original path, detection name, and file details.

If the installer came from an unofficial source, remove that installation and obtain a clean installer from AnvSoft instead. Scan the installer before running it.

Restore a quarantined file only when you have verified that the application and installer are genuine and the detection is a confirmed false positive. Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains the available restore and allow actions, but allowing a malicious file can put the computer at risk.

After reinstalling, start the application again. If the DLL disappears immediately, quarantine is still active or the installer itself is unsafe. Do not keep restoring the file repeatedly. Investigate the detection and use a clean official installer.

Fix 3: Distinguish parsedvd.dll from a Visual C++ error

parsedvd.dll is not a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file. Do not install a runtime merely because the filename ends in .dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Read the exact filename in the error:

  • MSVCP100.dll, MSVCR100.dll, or MFC100U.dll points to an older Visual C++ 2010 dependency.
  • VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll points to the modern v14 runtime line.
  • parsedvd.dll points first to the AnvSoft application installation.

For an older 32-bit AnvSoft program that specifically reports the 2010 files:

  1. Download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable from Microsoft.
  2. Choose the x86 package for the older 32-bit application.
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Choose Repair if it is already installed, or complete the installation.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Start the AnvSoft application.

For a modern v14 runtime error:

  1. Open Microsoft’s current Visual C++ Redistributable page.
  2. Download the package matching the application architecture.
  3. Use vc_redist.x86.exe for a 32-bit application.
  4. Use vc_redist.x64.exe for a 64-bit application.
  5. Install or repair the package.
  6. Restart and test the application.

The architecture must match the application, not simply the version of Windows. A 32-bit program running on 64-bit Windows normally needs 32-bit application DLLs and the x86 runtime.

Installing Visual C++ will not replace a missing parsedvd.dll. It helps only when the error names a missing Visual C++ component.

Fix 4: Check whether the application is 32-bit

The Windows edition does not tell you whether the affected application is 32-bit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use one of these checks:

  1. Open the application’s installation folder.
  2. Right-click its main .exe file.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Open the Details tab and review the available product information.

You can also open Task Manager, start the application if possible, select the Details tab, and look for the process. On some Windows versions, 32-bit processes are marked with an indication such as *32.

If the program is old and installed under Program Files (x86), that is a useful clue that it is 32-bit, but it is not a complete guarantee. Do not copy a 64-bit DLL into a 32-bit application directory or the reverse.

Fix 5: Repair broader Windows component corruption

System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore a third-party AnvSoft DLL, so use them when other Windows applications also fail or Windows reports broader corruption.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to complete.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the AnvSoft application again.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and test. If both commands complete without finding a problem, return to the application reinstall and dependency checks rather than repeating them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If manually tracking component repairs and interpreting repeated SFC/DISM results is becoming the slow part, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair features are handled by the full version. Reinstalling the AnvSoft application remains the definitive fix when its own DLL is missing.

Fix 6: Update Windows and investigate the installation source

Install pending Windows updates normally:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. Choose Check for updates.
  4. Install available updates.
  5. Restart when prompted.

Windows Update is not established as a direct cause of removing parsedvd.dll. If the problem began after an update, application repair, antivirus action, disk cleanup, or a damaged installation is more plausible.

If the program came from a cracked installer, unofficial repack, or copied portable folder, remove it. A modified executable may expect a different DLL build, and the file may have been altered. Run a Microsoft Defender scan before reinstalling the official application.

Fix 7: Update drivers only for broader device problems

A graphics, optical-drive, or media device driver is not a substitute for parsedvd.dll. Driver work is relevant only if the AnvSoft application also reports device failures or other programs show hardware-related errors.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To check drivers:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand categories such as Display adapters, DVD/CD-ROM drives, and Sound, video and game controllers.
  4. Right-click the affected device.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart if Windows installs an update.

For manual installation, download the driver only from the device or computer manufacturer, then run its installer. Do not use a driver package to replace an application DLL.

If checking each device manually and guessing which of several drivers is stale is the main obstacle, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; its free scan shows the findings, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is not a replacement for reinstalling the AnvSoft program that owns parsedvd.dll.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply

Do not run this by default:

regsvr32 parsedvd.dll

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. An application-local media-processing DLL does not automatically need registration.

If an application vendor specifically instructs you to register the file, use the command they provide from the correct folder and architecture. Otherwise, an error such as “The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found” means registration is unsupported. It does not mean the DLL belongs in System32.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not download parsedvd.dll separately

Random DLL download pages create several risks:

  • The file may contain malware.
  • It may be the wrong architecture.
  • It may belong to another product release.
  • It may not match the executable already installed.
  • It may leave a missing dependency unresolved.
  • Copying it into a system folder can affect unrelated programs.

Never place it in System32, SysWOW64, or a random application directory. The defensible manual replacement is a verified file extracted from the exact original installer or supplied in a vendor repair package, placed in the application’s own folder. Reinstalling the complete application is safer because it restores the DLL and its companion files together.

If reinstalling does not work

Check these points in order:

  1. Confirm that the shortcut target points to the newly installed executable.
  2. Search the computer for multiple Any Video Converter or Any DVD Converter folders.
  3. Remove the obsolete installation if it is no longer needed.
  4. Check whether antivirus quarantines the replacement immediately.
  5. Read the exact error again for a dependency name.
  6. Confirm that the installation is not an unofficial repack.
  7. Create or test from a clean Windows user profile if only one account is affected.
  8. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan if the file appeared outside the expected application directory.

If the message says “The specified module could not be found” while parsedvd.dll is visibly present, Windows may be unable to load one of its dependencies. Reinstall the complete application and install only the specifically named Microsoft runtime. Do not add unrelated DLLs one at a time.

If the problem began immediately after a known change and a suitable restore point exists, press Windows key + R, enter:

rstrui.exe

Select a restore point from before the change and follow the prompts. System Restore is a fallback, not the normal repair for this application file.

FAQ

Is parsedvd.dll part of Windows?

No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with older AnvSoft video and DVD converter installations and normally belongs in the application directory.

Which program installed it?

Public inventories associate it with Any Video Converter, Any Video Converter Professional or Ultimate, and Any DVD Converter Professional. Identify the executable in the error before choosing what to reinstall.

Is the correct name parsedvd.dll or ParseDVD.dll?

Both forms can describe the same application file. Windows filenames are generally case-insensitive.

Is it a Visual C++ runtime?

No. If the error names MSVCP100.dll, MSVCR100.dll, MFC100U.dll, VCRUNTIME140.dll, or MSVCP140.dll, address that separately named runtime.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I use regsvr32?

Usually no. Use it only if the application vendor explicitly documents DLL registration.

Should I run SFC or DISM?

Run them when other Windows components or applications also appear damaged. For a missing AnvSoft DLL, reinstalling the owning application is the primary repair.

What if an antivirus program detected the file?

Review Protection History, verify the installer source, and scan the installer. Do not restore or allow the file until you have established that it is genuine.

What is the safest source for a replacement?

The official AnvSoft installer for the same product family and edition. Restore the complete application rather than downloading parsedvd.dll by itself.
