It added Act Four, three campaign interludes and the Rise of the Abyssals league, alongside major support-gem, balance and endgame changes. Existing players could download the update without buying an expansion.
When did The Third Edict release?
Grinding Gear Games scheduled Content Update 0.3.0 for August 29, 2025 at 1 PM PDT. Its FAQ listed the standalone PC client, Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 as platforms. The announcement and official FAQ give the launch details.

The FAQ said existing players only needed to download the update; it was not a paid expansion. GGG also offered a three-day free access period beginning at launch, a promotion tied to 2025 rather than an offer established as available now.
What did The Third Edict add?
Act Four: the Ngamakanui archipelago
The campaign gained Act Four, set across eight islands in the Ngamakanui archipelago. The act is non-linear: players can visit its islands in any order, rather than following a single fixed sequence.

Three interludes replace Cruel Difficulty
Update 0.3.0 removed Cruel Difficulty and introduced three temporary campaign interludes. They bridge campaign progression toward level 65 and the endgame.
Rise of the Abyssals league
Rise of the Abyssals introduced a new league economy and its own mechanics, content, rewards and bosses. Its activities include ground fissures that spawn Abyssal enemies, Abyssal troves, item crafting at the Well of Souls and Abyssal Depths.

Do you need a new character for Rise of the Abyssals?
Yes. Characters already created were retained in Standard Early Access, while joining Rise of the Abyssals required creating a new character in that league. GGG also cautioned that the substantial balance changes could mean players needed to reallocate passive skill points on existing characters.
What changed in the patch notes?
Support gems and build options
The update removed the restriction that allowed only one copy of each support type in a build. Many supports received tiers, and the patch added 11 Support Gems and 40 endgame Lineage Supports.

Character balance, skills and items
0.3.0 included a major character balance overhaul as well as changes to ascendancies, passive skills, skills, unique items and other items. The effects vary by class, skill and item; the notes do not support a blanket description of the update as simply a buff or a nerf.
Endgame and other systems
The patch also changed endgame progression and the Atlas passive tree, reworked essences, and added broader improvements. Its notes cover new content and features, monsters, quests, the user interface, microtransactions and bug fixes.

Grinding Gear Games’ 0.3.0 patch notes are the reference for exact skill, item and balance changes. The update’s scope is broad, so consult the relevant section for a particular build or system rather than assuming every class or item changed in the same direction.
