When did Path of Exile 2 come to PS5?
PlayStation announced the PS5 version on May 30, 2024, and said Early Access would arrive later that year. It launched in December: PlayStation’s launch article is dated December 6 and says Early Access was available that day. The US PlayStation Store listing instead shows December 5 in its release-date field. The available sources do not explain the one-day difference.

That December release was Early Access. The US Store listing describes the full game as free-to-play and currently says it is expected in late 2026. That is an expectation, not a confirmed exact release date.
What was available at Early Access launch?
PlayStation’s December launch article described six available character classes, seven distinct endgame systems, and co-op for a friend or groups of up to six. It also said the first three campaign acts unlock Cruel Difficulty and endgame.

Those launch details differ from the May announcement’s description of the planned game, which outlined twelve character classes and headline design figures including 240 Skill Gems, 200 Support Gems, a 1,500-skill passive tree, 700 equipment base types, more than 100 campaign bosses, and more than 100 endgame maps. Treat those figures as the announcement’s plans, not a guarantee that every number or feature was unchanged at launch.
PlayStation also said Path of Exile 2 is separate from the original Path of Exile, while both games would receive free expansions and purchases would be shared between them.

Can you play couch co-op or cross-play on PS5?
Couch co-op
In its May 2024 announcement, Grinding Gear Games said couch co-op could be played collaboratively on one account or by logging in with two separate Path of Exile accounts on the same console. Game Director Jonathan Rogers wrote: “Players can play collaboratively on a single account, or log in with two separate Path of Exile accounts on the same console.”
The announcement establishes what was promised, but does not settle every current account-linking rule or platform-specific exception. The Store listing says online play is required and supports up to six online players.

Cross-play and cross-progression
The May announcement also said Path of Exile 2 would support full cross-play and cross-progression. These are different from couch co-op: cross-play concerns playing with people on other platforms, while cross-progression concerns carrying account progress between platforms. The announcement does not establish every current platform exception or account requirement.

Not during the Early Access period, according to the US PlayStation Store listing reviewed for this article. It offers an Early Access Founder’s Pack for $29.99, including 300 Points and Early Access. The same listing says in-game purchases are optional and the full release will be free-to-play. Prices and pack availability can vary by region and over time, so check the local PlayStation Store for current terms.

The Store presents the PS5 Early Access offer as a digital Founder’s Pack. The available official listing does not establish a physical PS5 edition.

What to know before playing with someone on the same console
- Local play: Couch co-op was announced for one account or two separate Path of Exile accounts on the same console.
- Online play: The Store listing says an internet connection is required and supports up to six online players.
- Controller: A second PS5 DualSense controller is a reasonable accessory to consider for couch co-op, but the cited pages do not specify a required controller count or confirm a particular controller model.
