That announcement was to cover endgame changes and a new league—not to give a confirmed 0.5.0 release date. GGG also said the Fate of the Vaal league would end immediately before the update, with characters and items migrating to Standard or Hardcore Early Access and no character wipes.
What GGG confirmed about update 0.5.0
In its February 19, 2026 post, GGG described 0.5.0 as a large update and said it would announce its full plans toward the end of April. The announced scope included changes to the endgame and a new league. The post did not provide a release date or a detailed feature list. Read GGG’s February 2026 update timeline post.

The distinction matters: “toward the end of April” was the planned timing for revealing the plans, not a stated launch window for 0.5.0. The post alone cannot establish when the update will arrive or which specific endgame systems and league features it will contain.
What happens to Fate of the Vaal characters?
GGG said Fate of the Vaal was expected to end immediately before 0.5.0. Characters and items from the league would migrate to the corresponding Standard or Hardcore Early Access league. GGG explicitly said there would be no wipes; after migration, players could continue using their characters in the Early Access leagues.

How a new league differs from Standard Early Access
| What changes | New league | Standard Early Access |
|---|---|---|
| Economy | Fresh economy for the league. | Continuing economy; existing league characters and items migrate here when the league ends. |
| Characters | Players begin in the new league with new characters. | Existing characters remain playable after migration. |
| League content | Some content may be exclusive to the league while it is active. | Access to a league’s exclusive content is not guaranteed after migration. |
| What happens to league features | GGG evaluates whether features become part of the core game after the league ends. | Features join the core game only if GGG decides to integrate them. |
GGG outlined this league-to-Standard model in its 2025 Third Edict FAQ. A fresh economy is the main reason to choose a new league; Standard is where migrated characters continue. See GGG’s Third Edict FAQ.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Path of Exile 2 still on a four-month update schedule?
GGG described major updates as arriving every four months in a July 2025 explainer, with each major update bringing a new league. It said leagues typically add a combat mechanic, rewards, crafting options and bosses. In November 2025, GGG said it remained on track with that schedule and planned 0.4.0 for early December.
Those statements describe GGG’s plans at the time; they are not a confirmed 2026 schedule. The February 2026 post establishes the planned announcement timing and broad scope for 0.5.0, but it does not renew a four-month cadence promise.
What is not confirmed about the later roadmap?
The February post did not specify the 0.5.0 launch date or enumerate its changes. It also does not confirm a Path of Exile 2 1.0 release date. A Steam search result has listed December 11, 2026 as the Early Access end date, but that date was not directly verified on the store page and was not confirmed by the GGG post discussed here. Treat it as unconfirmed rather than a definitive launch or 1.0 date.
