In Path of Exile 2, Breaches are timed map encounters where defeating Breach monsters can extend the event and splinters are gathered during the encounter. Precursor Tablets can add Breaches or tune their monster composition, density and splinter quantity. The exact values and rules below are tied to Grinding Gear Games’ 0.2.0h and 0.4.0 patch notes; they are not confirmation of the live game’s state on October 8, 2026.
How a Breach encounter worked in patch 0.2.0h
Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile 2 0.2.0h patch notes changed the minimum Breach encounter time from 12 seconds to 20 seconds. The notes also say the timer extends based on the Monster Power of defeated Breach demons: Magic and Rare enemies add more time than Normal enemies. Treat those figures and behaviors as specific to 0.2.0h, not as verified current values.
In that patch, splinters dropped during a Breach were automatically collected and dropped at the player’s location when the encounter ended. In a party, the notes describe multiple stacks allocated randomly. This describes the cited patch’s handling; check current in-game behavior if you are planning around party loot.
How Breaches appeared on maps in patch 0.4.0
The 0.4.0 Content Update notes say Breaches could appear randomly in maps or be added with Precursor Tablets. That update also removed Breach, Ritual, Delirium and Expedition from the Atlas map legend because those mechanics no longer had Atlas icons. These are 0.4.0 patch statements, not a guarantee that the same Atlas presentation or map availability applies in a later client version.

Which Precursor Tablet modifiers affect Breaches?
The 0.4.0 notes state that modifiers able to roll on the generic Precursor Tablet could roll on all tablet base types. They list the following Breach-oriented modifiers:

How to choose a Breach tablet
Use the modifier’s stated effect to match the map setup to your goal, rather than assuming one setup is universally best:
- Want more Breach encounters? Consider the additional-Breach chances from of Rupturing or of Fissuring.
- Want more monsters in Breaches? of the Invasion increases density; of the Horde specifically increases Magic monsters.
- Want more splinters? of the Domain targets splinter quantity.
The patch notes do not compare these options by expected profit, clear speed, risk-adjusted return or currency per hour. They therefore support choosing by encounter access and the kind of content you want, but not declaring a most profitable tablet or map strategy.
