Most Path of Titans community-server failures have a short list of causes: the server or router is not exposing the configured ports, the host and players are on different patches, or a mod is referenced with the wrong ID, map name, or unsupported platform. Work through the symptom-specific checks below in that order. Stop the server before changing configuration files, make one change at a time, and restart before testing again.

Alderon Games says any player who owns a full copy of Path of Titans can host a Community Server either by self-hosting or through a game-server provider. Self-hosting requires a dedicated Windows or Linux machine and dedicated-server software; it also requires network setup that is easy to misconfigure.

Confirm what kind of server you are running

Your troubleshooting path depends on who controls the machine and network. Alderon Games’ Community Servers FAQ, dated May 12, 2025, identifies two routes: self-hosting and working with a game-server provider (GSP). The game itself does not remove the need for a full copy of Path of Titans for the person hosting the community server.

Self-hosting requirements

  • A dedicated Windows or Linux machine that can remain available while players connect.
  • Alderon’s dedicated-server software installed on that machine.
  • Port forwarding on the router or other network edge, plus matching port configuration in the server settings.
  • A host firewall that permits the server traffic.
  • Access to the server’s Game.ini, GameUserSettings.ini, and log files.

Alderon’s May 2026 development blog describes the current self-hosting path as downloading the dedicated-server software, running it on a dedicated machine, forwarding ports, and completing other setup work. The same post says NAT punch-through is being worked on. Treat that as a development direction, not as a feature you can assume is available on your installation.

Using a game-server provider

A provider supplies the server environment, but the exact division of responsibilities varies by provider. Confirm which party controls port settings, firewall rules, file access, updates, backups, and support before changing anything. The official FAQ does not publish provider pricing or performance comparisons, so those figures cannot be used to diagnose a failure.

Use a symptom-first triage order

Changing several files at once makes it difficult to identify the cause. Use this sequence and record the result of each check:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Determine the scope. Is the server absent from the browser, visible but impossible to join, failing only for certain players, or loading the wrong map or missing mods?
  2. Check the server process. Verify that the dedicated server is actually running and has finished starting before testing from a client.
  3. Check configured ports. Confirm that the ports entered in the server configuration are the ones forwarded at the network edge and permitted by the host firewall.
  4. Check version parity. After an update, compare the server patch with the patch installed by every affected client.
  5. Check mod identity and compatibility. Use the in-game Mod Browser to verify each Mod ID, then check whether the mod supports the player’s platform and current game version.
  6. Capture evidence. Save the relevant configuration and log files before contacting support or rebuilding the server.

Do not edit an active server’s configuration. Stop it first, make the change, save the file, restart, and then test with one client before asking several players to try.

When the server does not appear or nobody can connect

The Hosting Wiki identifies ports and firewall rules as the first causes to check for both an absent listing and failed connections. Separate the problem into discovery and connection: a server can be listed while its traffic is still blocked.

The server is missing from the browser

  1. Confirm the process is listening. Check the dedicated-server console or service manager for a completed startup rather than assuming that launching the program means it is ready.
  2. Review the configured ports. Write down the ports specified by the server configuration. A typo, changed port, or mismatch between the server and router rule can keep the listing from working.
  3. Check the network edge. On a self-hosted network, verify that each required port is forwarded to the machine running the dedicated server. If the machine’s local address changed, the router may now forward to the wrong device.
  4. Check the host firewall. Create or verify rules that allow the server’s traffic on the configured ports. A router rule alone cannot help if the operating system drops the packets.
  5. Restart and retest. Stop the server, correct one setting, start it again, and wait for the startup sequence to finish before searching from a client.

If you use a GSP, ask its support team which external ports and firewall controls apply to your instance. The official guidance confirms the need for correct ports but does not define one universal port number for every hosting arrangement.

The server is listed, but connections fail

A listing proves that some discovery information is reaching the browser; it does not prove that the game traffic can complete a connection. Recheck the same configured ports at both ends, then inspect the host firewall for blocked inbound or outbound traffic. Test from a player who is not on the host’s local network when possible, because a local test can behave differently from an internet connection.

Do not treat NAT punch-through as a workaround you can enable today. Alderon’s May 2026 blog describes it as work in progress. Until an official release states otherwise, plan on explicit port forwarding for self-hosted servers.

Interpreting a timeout

A timeout is a symptom, not a diagnosis. If every player times out, begin with the server process, configured ports, router forwarding, and firewall. If only players using a particular mod or platform time out, move to the mod and platform checks instead of repeatedly changing network rules.

When some players join and others cannot

Selective join failures immediately after an update usually indicate update parity. The server and every client must be on the same patch. A stale dedicated server can allow players who still have a matching build while rejecting clients that have already updated; the reverse can also happen.

Synchronize the server and clients

  1. Record the patch shown by the dedicated-server installation or provider panel.
  2. Ask one affected player and one successful player to check their client versions from the game’s launcher or update screen.
  3. Update the out-of-date side. If the server is provider-managed, use the provider’s update control or support process; if self-hosted, update the dedicated-server software using Alderon’s current distribution.
  4. Restart the dedicated server after the update completes.
  5. Have an affected player close and relaunch the game so its client finishes applying the patch, then test again.

Do not infer a network fault merely because some people can connect. Version mismatch is specifically identified by the Hosting Wiki as a cause of selective post-update failures.

When version parity is correct

Return to the scope of the failure. If all affected players use one platform, inspect mod platform support. If all affected players use a particular mod, verify that mod’s ID, update status, and availability. If failures are random across platforms and mods, collect the server log and connection times for support rather than deleting configuration files blindly.

Fix a modded map that loads as Panjura

A modded map needs two separate configuration entries. The map mod must be enabled, and the session must be told to use that map. If the second value is absent or misspelled, the server can fall back to Panjura even though the mod appears in the installed list.

Configure the map safely

  1. Stop the server completely. Never edit the files while the dedicated server is running; it may overwrite your changes or retain old values in memory.
  2. Open GameUserSettings.ini. Locate the [PathOfTitans.Mods] section. Add the map mod’s exact Mod ID as shown in the in-game Mod Browser. Preserve the file’s existing syntax and do not substitute the mod’s display name for its ID.
  3. Open Game.ini. Under the section [/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession], add ServerMap= followed by the mod’s exact internal map name.
  4. Check spelling and case. The ServerMap value must match the mod’s internal name exactly. A friendly name, shortened name, extra space, or typo can make the server load Panjura.
  5. Save both files and restart. Wait for the server to finish starting, then join and verify the map before changing any other setting.

The two values serve different purposes: the Mod ID tells the server which package to load, while ServerMap selects the map inside the game session. Entering only one of them is not sufficient.

If the map still falls back to Panjura

  • Reopen both files after stopping the server and confirm the entries were saved in the intended installation directory.
  • Copy the Mod ID again from the in-game Mod Browser rather than typing it from memory.
  • Copy the internal map name from the mod’s documentation or listing exactly; do not assume it is the same as the public title.
  • Check whether the map mod was updated or removed after a game patch. A package that is unavailable or incompatible cannot be selected by configuration alone.
  • Test without making unrelated edits so that a successful change can be identified.

Fix missing creatures or other mods

Missing modded creatures, objects, or gameplay systems generally come down to an incorrect Mod ID, an unavailable package, or a version or platform limitation.

Verify every Mod ID

  1. Open the in-game Mod Browser and find the exact mod entry.
  2. Copy its Mod ID exactly, paying special attention to characters that look alike.
  3. Stop the server and open GameUserSettings.ini.
  4. Under [PathOfTitans.Mods], add or correct the ID using the same entry format already used by the file.
  5. Save, restart, and test with a client that has downloaded the same mod.

The Hosting Wiki specifically warns about confusing the number zero (0) with the letter capital O (O). One incorrect character points to a different package or to nothing at all.

Check whether the mod still exists

A game update can require the mod author to publish an updated version. The mod may also have been removed. In either case, a previously valid ID can stop working without any change to your server file. Confirm that the mod remains available in the Mod Browser and that its listing indicates support for the current game version before troubleshooting the server further.

When a mod appears installed but does not load

  • Compare the server’s Mod ID with the Browser entry character by character.
  • Confirm that the affected client has finished downloading the mod and is on the same game patch as the server.
  • Remove duplicate or obsolete entries only after stopping the server, and keep a backup of the original file.
  • Test one known-good mod at a time if several were added together; this isolates an unavailable package without requiring a full rebuild.

Do not replace a missing package with a similarly named mod. The server needs the exact ID published for the intended package.

When only certain platforms can join

Correct server configuration does not guarantee universal platform compatibility. Alderon’s mod guidance warns that mods do not all support every platform, and map mods can be too demanding for mobile devices.

Use the affected player’s platform as the clue

  1. List which platforms can join and which cannot.
  2. Check the mod’s stated platform support in its official listing or documentation.
  3. Test the unmodded server, if practical, with a player on the affected platform. If the unmodded server works but the modded one does not, the mod’s support boundary is the leading explanation.
  4. For a map mod, consider that mobile hardware may be excluded even when desktop and console players connect successfully.

A platform-specific failure is not fixed by reopening ports or changing ServerMap. Remove the incompatible mod, choose a version that supports the platform, or run a separate configuration for players who cannot use it.

Self-hosting versus a game-server provider

Both routes are officially supported, but they shift different responsibilities to the operator. The table summarizes what is established by Alderon’s FAQ and hosting guidance; it does not assign prices, performance figures, or guaranteed support levels that the official sources do not publish.

Decision area Self-hosting Game-server provider
Machine ownership and maintenance You supply and maintain a dedicated Windows or Linux machine. The provider supplies the hosting environment; the exact maintenance boundary is provider-specific.
Networking and ports You must configure port forwarding and the host firewall on your network. Port and firewall controls depend on the provider’s implementation and plan; confirm the required settings with its support team.
INI and mod control You work directly with Game.ini and GameUserSettings.ini, including mod IDs and ServerMap. File access and the available configuration interface vary; verify that you can edit the required sections before choosing this route.
Update responsibility You download and maintain the dedicated-server software and keep it on the same patch as clients. The provider may expose an update control or perform updates, but its schedule and rollback process must be confirmed directly.
Support path You diagnose the machine, network, files, and logs, then contact Alderon with evidence when needed. Start with provider support for service-level issues, and supply Alderon’s requested files when the problem is game-specific.
Published pricing or performance Not stated in Alderon’s Community Servers FAQ. Not stated in Alderon’s Community Servers FAQ.

Choose self-hosting when you need direct control of the operating system and configuration and can maintain networking. Choose a provider when you prefer an externally managed machine, but verify that its tools expose the settings required by your mods and map.

Prepare useful evidence before contacting support

Support can investigate a reproducible failure faster when it receives the files that describe the server’s state. The Hosting Wiki specifically asks operators to be ready to provide Game.ini and PathOfTitans.log.

Save the configuration state

  • Copy the current Game.ini without editing it after the failure occurs.
  • Copy GameUserSettings.ini, especially the [PathOfTitans.Mods] section.
  • Record the exact server and client patch versions.
  • List the affected platforms, whether the server appears in the browser, and whether the failure is a rejection or a timeout.
  • Note the time of a fresh reproduction so the corresponding lines in PathOfTitans.log can be located.

Preserve the log

Stop making speculative edits once you have a reproducible failure. Save PathOfTitans.log from the affected run and include the matching configuration files when opening a support request. Redact personal information that is not needed, but do not remove the error lines or the settings needed to reproduce the issue.

Operator checklist for future updates

Use this short routine after every Path of Titans update or mod change:

  • Check that the dedicated server and every regular player have the same patch.
  • Confirm the server process starts cleanly before testing a listing.
  • Verify that configured ports, router forwarding, and host-firewall rules still point to the correct machine.
  • Open the Mod Browser and confirm that every Mod ID remains available.
  • Recheck zero-versus-letter-O characters in each ID.
  • For a custom map, verify both the mod entry in GameUserSettings.ini and the exact ServerMap value in Game.ini.
  • Check platform support before promising access to mobile, console, or desktop players.
  • Keep a dated backup of working configuration files so you can restore a known-good state.
  • When a failure returns, save Game.ini and PathOfTitans.log before changing settings.

These checks address the failure modes documented by Alderon’s Community Servers FAQ, Hosting Wiki, mod guidance, and May 2026 development update without assuming an unpublished port number, server count, uptime figure, or performance guarantee.
