PEAK is a cooperative climbing game built around stamina, scavenging and injury management. Before you set off, choose whether to climb alone or invite friends, check the live controls, and treat stamina as a hard limit: running out while climbing can make you slide rapidly and may be fatal.

Choose solo or co-op before you start

PEAK lets you climb alone or invite up to three other scouts for friends-only co-op, according to the Steam store listing. Pick the setup that fits how you want to play; the available information does not establish that either mode is universally easier.

In co-op, agree on a pace and communicate before committing to a difficult section. That is a practical way to coordinate with your group, not a guaranteed in-game advantage.

Plan climbs around stamina

Stamina is one of your main climbing constraints. A current community controls reference warns that running out while climbing causes rapid sliding and can be fatal. Avoid beginning a long or steep stretch when your stamina is already low, and check the current in-game controls so you know how movement works in your build.

Keep an eye on your stamina during a climb rather than focusing only on the next handhold. If the bar is running low, look for a safe opportunity to pause or reconsider the route instead of assuming you can push through. Treat this as cautious planning, not a guarantee that any particular path is safe.

Avoid injuries before demanding sections

Injuries limit stamina, making climbing harder. The official Steam description and the developer’s PEAK page both describe injury management as part of the survival loop. That makes avoidable damage especially costly before a demanding climb.

Move conservatively around hazards and do not treat a small setback as irrelevant simply because you are still able to move. The sources establish the stamina penalty from injuries, but do not provide a complete, current account of every injury or hazard effect.

Scavenge, but check what you find

Finding food is part of surviving a run: the Steam listing describes scavenging for questionable food, and the developer also presents scavenging as part of the game’s survival loop. Do not assume an item is helpful just because it is edible or available. Read its in-game description before relying on it, and avoid planning around specific hunger, poison or stamina effects without checking current item information.

Check controls and patch-specific advice

Controls and item details can change. Use the controls shown in your current game build rather than relying on remembered bindings. For more detailed beginner guidance, Gamepressure’s PEAK guide says it was checked against Patch 2.4 and updated September 21, 2026. Steam surfaced an update dated September 2, 2026, so confirm that any advice you follow still matches the version you are playing.

For precise food effects, platform-specific controls and route details, the available sources do not establish a complete current reference. In-game descriptions and current patch materials are the safer places to verify those specifics.

A simple first-run checklist

  • Decide whether to climb solo or invite up to three friends.
  • Review your current controls before relying on a particular movement or climbing action.
  • Watch stamina and avoid starting a long or steep section when it is already low.
  • Protect yourself from hazards because injuries reduce stamina.
  • Scavenge for food, but read item descriptions before counting on an effect.
  • Check that guides and tips match your current patch.
