Contemporary reporting put the June redundancies at 60, although CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski did not give a number in his announcement. The studio said “suspend,” not that either game was permanently cancelled.
What People Can Fly announced
CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski announced the decisions on June 1, 2025. Project Gemini, made with publisher Square Enix, and Project Bifrost, a planned self-published game, were both put on hold. PCF said it would “significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams.”
The distinction in wording matters: the announcement described suspended development. The available reports do not establish that either project was permanently abandoned or later resumed.
Why Project Gemini was suspended
PCF said Square Enix had not provided a draft of a subsequent content rider setting the terms for further project milestones, and had not communicated whether it wanted to continue or terminate Gemini. The studio described the uncertainty in its announcement, reproduced by PC Gamer: “The suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.”

Why Project Bifrost was suspended
Bifrost faced a different stated problem. PCF said its cash-flow analysis showed no prospects for securing the organizational resources and funding required to continue production and release. The company also linked that financial capacity concern to uncertainty surrounding Gemini. Bifrost had been planned for self-publication, rather than as a project published by Square Enix.
How many developers were laid off?
Game Developer reported that a separate current report put the number of June 2025 redundancies at 60. That count was not stated in Wojciechowski’s announcement, so it should be attributed to the contemporary reporting rather than presented as a figure he announced.

The 60 reported redundancies are separate from an earlier restructuring. In December 2024, PCF ended development on Project Victoria and reduced the Bifrost team; GameSpot reported 120 layoffs in that round. Those earlier layoffs should not be added to or confused with the June 2025 figure.

The announcement and contemporaneous coverage do not provide a breakdown of affected roles or locations. They also do not support claims about either game’s identity, story, or the publisher’s motives beyond PCF’s statements.

What the announcement means for People Can Fly
The June decisions followed the December 2024 end of Project Victoria and reduction of the Bifrost team, but the two rounds concerned different project actions and had distinct reported layoff figures. People Can Fly’s investor page lists released games including Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders; that historical list is background, not confirmation of the studio’s current development slate. Wojciechowski said: “We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone’s contribution up to this point.” The statement was reproduced in contemporaneous coverage, including Game Developer.
