What should I know before I start Persona 4 Golden?
The game alternates between everyday life and investigating the mystery in the TV World. School and town activities—such as meeting friends, studying, and taking part-time work—can develop personal qualities and create social opportunities, while dungeon visits prepare you for battles and move the investigation forward. ATLUS describes these as connected parts of the experience on its official Persona 4 Golden page.

Think of the calendar as a set of competing opportunities, not a puzzle with one universally correct answer. A visit with a character can advance a relationship; studying or another activity can improve a personal quality; and investigating helps you prepare for combat and progress through the mystery. Choose based on what you want to do next, rather than treating every open day as a missed optimization.
How should I spend my time?
Choose between relationships and personal growth
When you have free time, consider whether you would rather deepen a bond or work on a personal quality. Both fit into the game’s daily-life systems, and neither choice is automatically right every time. Follow the characters and activities you find appealing, and allow room in your schedule for investigation and combat preparation.

Build Social Links for story and gameplay
ATLUS puts the choice in the player’s hands: “You choose who you want to spend your time with and which Social Links to develop!” Developing those bonds also has a combat benefit: ATLUS says deeper Social Links enable stronger Personas. The official page does not give a complete rank-up formula or list every availability window.
A Steam Community guide reports 23 Social Links in Persona 4 Golden; that figure is community-authored, not an official ATLUS count. Do not assume every character is available every day or that all links can be completed without planning. If your goal is to max every rank in one playthrough, use a separate deadline-aware walkthrough and decide in advance whether you are comfortable with spoilers. This guide focuses on flexible first-playthrough principles, not a guaranteed completion route.

Make investigation time count
Dungeon visits are the preparation-and-progression side of the loop: you face Shadows, practice the combat system, and work toward advancing the mystery. Balance those visits with daily-life activities according to your own pace; the sources do not establish a single optimal calendar or a universal schedule for when to investigate.
How does combat work?
Look for enemy weaknesses
Combat is turn-based. You can attack with weapons or use Persona skills, but the key beginner lesson is to test and exploit weaknesses. ATLUS explains that hitting a Shadow’s weakness knocks it down and triggers 1 MORE, giving you another action. If you knock down all enemies, you can open an opportunity for an All-Out Attack. Keep Persona options open
Your protagonist’s Persona gains levels in battle, and Personas can also be fused from ones obtained through combat. Because you can hold multiple Personas and fuse them for different situations, avoid relying on a single option throughout the game. Learning what works against the Shadows you encounter is more useful than assuming one setup will solve every fight.
Which difficulty should I choose?
ATLUS says difficulty is selected at the start and does not affect the story. Its official difficulty information names Very Easy and Easy as options for players who want a more comfortable pace. Choose one of them if you would rather put less pressure on battles; select a more demanding setting if you want combat to challenge you more. The story is not the trade-off.

How do I save, and do I need a controller on PC?
Quick save
ATLUS’s promotional page says you can quick save without visiting a designated save point. Use that convenience when you need to stop playing; the cited page does not specify platform-by-platform differences in save behavior.
Optional controller for the Steam version
Steam says its version is best experienced with a game controller. Treat that as a recommendation, not a requirement: a controller is an option for PC players who prefer one, not a reason to assume keyboard controls are unusable or that a particular model is necessary. Check the Steam listing for the store’s current wording.
