Use the levels below as approximate targets, not required minimums. They are guide recommendations, and your readiness also depends on difficulty, party skills, Persona coverage, and how well you use the battle systems.
Recommended level for each major boss
Game8’s Japanese boss guide, last updated November 20, 2025, lists these recommendations. Akechi and Shido are separate fights in Shido’s Palace. The third-semester boss is left unnamed here to avoid spoiling its identity.

Palace levels are not the same as boss levels
Game8’s separate Palace chart gives these progression targets: Kamoshida 10, Madarame 19, Kaneshiro 27, Futaba 37, Okumura 44, Niijima 52, Shido 64, Mementos Depths 72, Qliphoth World 76, and the Royal third-semester Palace 87. These are recommendations for the Palaces, not precise levels for every boss in them. The third-semester Palace is Royal content and unlocks when the requirements for that semester are met.
That distinction matters most for Yaldabaoth: the boss list does not give a boss-specific number, while the Palace chart supplies level 76 for Qliphoth World. Treating 76 as an explicit Yaldabaoth recommendation would overstate what the guide says.

How to judge whether you are ready
The Persona 5 Royal Comprehensive Strategy Wiki (Wiki*) notes that Palace bosses do not display a numeric level to players. Its rule of thumb is to bring Joker to roughly the level of the highest-level ordinary Shadow in that Palace; it also suggests that being able to negotiate with ordinary Shadows is a practical readiness signal. Kamoshida Palace is an exception to that heuristic because its highest-level ordinary Shadow makes the rule unusually demanding.
- Use the table as a target, not a pass-or-fail threshold.
- Check whether your party has useful skills and Personas that cover the encounter’s elemental demands.
- For the specific fight notes in the table, account for Madarame’s changing properties, Okumura’s Baton Pass opportunities, and Niijima’s roulette mechanic.
Difficulty and story progression
ATLUS says difficulty does not affect story content and recommends Safe or Easy for players who mainly want to enjoy the story. Choosing one of those settings is a valid alternative to grinding for a higher level; it does not change the story itself. The level guide targets are not official ATLUS requirements.

Optional encounters are separate
These optional recommendations are not part of the main-story boss progression. Game8 lists level 70 or above for the Twins, identified as a New Game Plus encounter, level 85 for Jose, and level 99 for the Strength Confidant’s final challenge.
