The first reported spot debuted during Sunday Football on September 29; Windows Central said the campaign ultimately included more than 30 unique ads.
Who is The Replacer in the Black Ops 6 ads?
The Replacer is a recurring Call of Duty advertising character played by Peter Stormare. The joke is that he takes over someone else’s job or obligations so they can leave and play the game. Stormare first played the character in marketing for 2013’s Black Ops 2, then returned for Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4, according to Windows Central’s campaign report.

Windows Central said the character did not appear in the marketing for Black Ops: Cold War before this return. The publication described the Black Ops 6 campaign as more than 30 unique spots, beginning with a 60-second commercial shown during Sunday Football on September 29, 2024.
What happened in the Black Ops 6 commercials?
The ads applied the same substitution gag to everyday and high-profile roles. Windows Central reported examples including a firefighter, a ride-share driver, a street vendor and the Pope. In the opening dinner scenario, The Replacer arrives to take someone’s place so they can go play.

The campaign also brought back The Replacer’s black muscle car, refreshed with orange details and Black Ops 6 Cerberus-head branding. Those visual cues tied the familiar character to the new game. The advertising premise was that people could step away from their responsibilities while The Replacer handled them.
When did Stormare return, and when did Black Ops 6 launch?
The reported September 29 debut came less than a month before Black Ops 6 launched on October 25, 2024. Activision’s official game page lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Microsoft PC Store, Steam and Battle.net, as well as eligible Game Pass plans. Activision describes the game as a first-person shooter with Campaign, Multiplayer and round-based Zombies modes.

The game’s launch window also included a preload period. In an October 17, 2024 article, Activision said preload would begin October 21 at 9 a.m. PT, four days before release. Its preload and UI announcement noted that most platforms handled Black Ops 6 and Warzone as separate downloads, with installed titles and modes manageable by players.

The commercials’ premise is separate from the game’s plot: the character’s job is to free people from their real-world obligations, not to portray an in-game role. Activision places the Campaign in the early 1990s, amid the Gulf War and the political transition following the Cold War. Its Campaign overview follows Frank Woods and his team after they are exiled and hunted by a clandestine force inside the CIA.

Windows Central’s reporting described Stormare’s return as a marketing appearance; it did not indicate that he would be a playable operator in Black Ops 6. The official Activision game and Campaign pages describe the game and its story, rather than confirming the specifics of the Replacer advertising run.
