Start with Training and lessons, then play a few practice holes with Perfect Swing while you learn club choice, shot types, lies, and wind. Choose either Swing Stick or 3-Click Swing based on which input feels comfortable to repeat, and raise the challenge gradually. You do not need an optimized MyPLAYER build or upgraded equipment to begin.
How should beginners start in PGA TOUR 2K25?
- Open Training and lessons. Use the available instruction to learn the game’s basic decisions before focusing on scoring. 2K described Training and lessons as onboarding tools in its February 2025 First Look demo announcement; that historical announcement does not establish whether the demo remains available.
- Learn the order of a shot. Choose a club, select a shot type, account for the lie and wind, then swing. 2K says Perfect Swing gives new players room to learn those course inputs without initially worrying about perfect contact. See its Nintendo Switch 2 announcement.
- Practice one control method consistently. Try Swing Stick and 3-Click Swing briefly in Training if available, then stick with the one you can repeat comfortably for a session. Change methods if the input itself feels awkward, rather than changing it after every poor shot.
- Increase challenge in small steps. Once the current setup feels too forgiving, adjust one difficulty setting at a time. That makes it easier to tell which change affected your round; it is a practical approach, not an official 2K difficulty ladder.
Which swing control should a beginner use?

2K describes EvoSwing as supporting both Swing Stick and 3-Click Swing, but its official materials do not establish that either is universally easier, more accurate, or better for beginners. Choose by comfort and repeatability, not a supposed best setting. The same feature announcement describes EvoSwing, Perfect Swing, and MyPLAYER updates.

What difficulty should a new player choose?
Perfect Swing is 2K’s most accessible, forgiving swing experience. It reduces how much external factors affect swing execution, allowing you to concentrate on decisions such as club, shot, lie, and wind. Begin there if the controls are competing with learning those choices; move to a more demanding experience when you want swing execution to matter more.
MyCAREER difficulty and conditions are customizable, but the available documentation does not prescribe a universal sequence or list every current setting. Tune gradually and use settings as a starting point, not a permanent formula. Game balance can change: 2K’s May 14, 2025 patch notes describe adjustments to transition, rhythm, swing path, contact sweet spots, forgiveness, and simulated opponent skill values. Those notes recommended resetting opponent simulation difficulty to default and retuning after those changes; they are a dated example, not confirmation of the latest tuning.

How should beginners build a MyPLAYER?
Pick an archetype that matches the kind of golfer you want to play, rather than hunting for a universally perfect build. 2K lists five: Powerhouse, Technician, Magician, Greenskeeper, and Sculptor. They begin with different attributes and base swing and putting mechanics. The documented options do not establish a current competitive “best” archetype.

- Approach: shots aimed toward the green.
- Recovery: difficult situations that require getting back into position.
- Bunker: shots from sand.
- Green: putting.
As you earn improvements, prioritize the shots you use often or find difficult instead of spreading early upgrades evenly. This follows the structure of the skill trees; it is not a tested optimal build. 2K’s MyPLAYER feature announcement describes the archetypes and skills.
Do you need better clubs, balls, or clothing before starting?
No. Clubs and balls progress through use, and equipment development also includes Fittings and EvoTools. Player progression improves attributes and unlocks skills. Start with the gear you have and let regular play develop your golfer; the documented system does not identify one best club, ball, fitting, or token purchase for every beginner.

Both options are documented in 2K’s MyCAREER and MyPLAYER announcement. When you want to explore beyond career, Designer lets players build courses or use courses uploaded by others; community courses are not necessarily beginner-friendly, so treat them as optional exploration rather than a lesson plan.
