Phantom Blade Zero System Requirements and PC Hardware Guide

By VGSources Team 9 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To run Phantom Blade Zero on PC, start with the complete profile rather than the graphics card alone. The current Steam listing calls for Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), DirectX 12, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD in both tiers. Its minimum examples target 1080p at 30 frames per second with upscaling enabled; the recommended examples target 1440p at 60 FPS with upscaling enabled. Those are storefront targets, not guarantees for every scene or native-resolution rendering.

Phantom Blade Zero is an Unreal Engine 5 game from S-GAME, scheduled for release on October 28, 2026. The requirements may change before launch, so recheck the official Steam listing when you are ready to install.

What the two tiers actually mean

Minimum is a 1080p/30-FPS starting point

The minimum pairing is an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with a GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB. Steam associates that level with 1080p at 30 FPS when upscaling is enabled. It is therefore a sensible starting point for a 30-FPS setup, not evidence that the game will hold 30 FPS in every fight, traversal sequence or visual effect at every preset.

A PC that has the listed graphics card but a substantially weaker processor, an unsupported operating system or no DirectX 12 support does not match the published minimum profile. Check every requirement before treating a single matching component as compatibility.

Recommended is aimed at 1440p/60 FPS

The recommended examples raise the processor to an Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and the graphics card to an RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB. Steam associates those parts with 1440p at 60 FPS, again with upscaling enabled. This is the appropriate reference point for a 1440p monitor and a 60-FPS goal, but it is not a promise of locked performance in all scenes or with every visual option enabled.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The recommended card is not described as mandatory for simply launching or playing the game. It is the hardware example attached to the higher published target. If your goal is 1080p/30, the minimum tier is the relevant comparison; if your goal is 1440p/60, compare your system with the recommended tier as a complete profile.

  1. Confirm Windows. You need a 64-bit installation of Windows 10 or Windows 11. A 32-bit installation does not satisfy the listing.
  2. Confirm DirectX. The requirements specify DirectX 12. In Windows, press Win+R, enter dxdiag, and check the System tab. The tool reports the installed DirectX version; your graphics driver must also support the required feature level.
  3. Identify the CPU. Compare your processor with the minimum examples (Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600) and recommended examples (Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X). CPU generation, core behavior, cooling and background load can affect frame pacing, so a name that appears close is not a measured equivalent.
  4. Identify the GPU and VRAM. Compare the model and memory with the GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB minimum examples, or the RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6700 XT 12GB recommended examples. Confirm that the card is the desktop or laptop version you intend to use; mobile variants can have different power limits.
  5. Check system memory. Both profiles list 16 GB of RAM. This is a requirement for the whole system, not graphics memory. Close unnecessary applications if Windows and background software leave little available memory.
  6. Install to an SSD. Steam explicitly requires an SSD in both tiers. A hard-disk installation does not match the listed storage requirement, even if the CPU and GPU qualify.
  7. Set a realistic target. Use the minimum target as a 1080p/30-with-upscaling reference and the recommended target as a 1440p/60-with-upscaling reference. Do not reinterpret either as native-resolution performance.

If one major component falls below the minimum examples, the only accurate conclusion is that your configuration is outside the published profile. That does not prove the game will fail to start, but the Steam page provides no performance basis for calling it compatible.

What GPU do you need for Phantom Blade Zero?

For the lower published target, Steam names the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB and AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB. For the 1440p/60 target, it names the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB and AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT with 12 GB. The AMD and NVIDIA entries are alternatives within each tier; you do not need both vendors’ cards.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Graphics memory is part of the model specification shown by Steam, but VRAM capacity alone does not establish performance. Architecture, clock speed, power limit, driver version, resolution scaling and the game’s final settings all matter. A card with the same nominal VRAM but a different GPU class should not automatically be treated as equivalent.

If you are shopping for the recommended class, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB graphics card is one component example named by the listing, while the Radeon RX 6700 XT is the AMD alternative. Neither is a guarantee of a fixed frame rate outside the stated 1440p/60-with-upscaling target.

CPU matching: why the processor matters

Unreal Engine 5 games can place meaningful load on the CPU during simulation, animation, asset streaming and scene management. Steam’s minimum examples are the Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 3600; its recommended examples are the Core i5-10600K and Ryzen 5 5600X. The recommended Intel chip has a different model number from the minimum Intel chip, so do not infer that a higher i7 label is automatically the recommended level, or that an i5 label is automatically weaker. Compare the actual generation and model.

On a laptop, power limits and cooling can make a mobile processor or GPU perform differently from its desktop-named counterpart. For a used or upgraded PC, check the complete platform: motherboard support, sustained clock behavior, available memory and the graphics card’s power delivery all influence whether the published examples are a fair comparison.

Does Phantom Blade Zero require an SSD?

Yes. The Steam requirements mark an SSD as required for both minimum and recommended configurations. The listing does not state a capacity, interface standard or free-space figure, so there is no evidence-based minimum number of gigabytes to publish. Reserve enough free space for the installation, updates and the operating system’s normal working room, but do not mistake an invented capacity for an official requirement.

If the game is installed on a hard disk, moving it to an SSD is the first storage-side fix to make. An SSD requirement does not by itself determine frame rate; it is a platform condition alongside CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows and DirectX 12.

How upscaling changes the published targets

Both Steam targets explicitly include upscaling. In an upscaling mode, the game renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs an output image at the selected display resolution. That can reduce GPU work compared with rendering every pixel natively. Consequently, “1080p/30” and “1440p/60” on the requirements page should be read as output-resolution targets under an upscaling assumption.

Steam’s requirements text does not name a particular upscaler or specify its internal render percentage, quality mode or sharpening behavior. You should therefore avoid promising native 1080p or native 1440p performance from these parts. The final implementation and available settings may affect image quality and frame pacing.

When evaluating your own system, decide first whether your priority is output resolution, image clarity, frame rate or consistent frame pacing. A display set to 1440p with upscaling enabled is not the same workload as native 1440p rendering, and a 30-FPS target is not interchangeable with a 60-FPS target.

Ray tracing and path tracing: what is confirmed?

The current Steam requirements section contains only the minimum and recommended profiles above. It does not list separate ray-tracing or path-tracing hardware tiers.

An unofficial guide reports RTX 5060 and RTX 5080 examples for ray-tracing and path-tracing levels and says those targets use upscaling. Those figures should be treated as unverified until S-GAME publishes the tiers in an official announcement. You can read the report at https://phantomblade.guide/guides/pc-requirements/, but do not use it as a substitute for the Steam specifications when deciding whether your PC meets the base requirements.

Ray tracing is not stated as mandatory for the minimum or recommended profiles. PC Gamer reports that game director Qiwei “Soulframe” Liang discussed making the game look as good as possible with ray tracing disabled; that interview comment describes a development focus, not a required feature or a measured benchmark. The interview is available at PC Gamer.

Steam Deck and lower-end hardware

In the same PC Gamer interview, Liang described Steam Deck support as “a hard task” and said the team wanted the game playable by as many people as possible without reducing quality. He also said, “This year the hardware price is going up, and people who want to replace their hardware may postpone their plan to upgrade their equipment, so we think we need to let the game be played by as many players as possible without reducing the quality.”

Those are statements of intent, not a Steam Deck certification, a frame-rate target or a compatibility result for integrated graphics. The published requirements still specify Windows 10/11 64-bit, DirectX 12, 16 GB RAM and an SSD. Wait for an official compatibility label, tested settings or launch documentation before assuming a handheld or low-power PC will deliver a particular experience.

Choosing an upgrade path

If you are below the minimum GPU

Compare the replacement card with both the GTX 1660 6GB and RX 5500 XT 8GB examples. Also check the power supply, case clearance, display outputs and driver support. A faster GPU cannot compensate for an unsupported operating system, missing DirectX 12 capability, insufficient RAM or a hard-disk-only setup.

If your GPU matches but your CPU does not

Do not assume the graphics card alone qualifies the system. A processor below the Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600 examples leaves the machine outside the published minimum profile. A platform upgrade may require a new motherboard and memory as well as the CPU; evaluate that total cost against replacing the entire PC.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you want 1440p at 60 FPS

Use the recommended pair as your starting point: Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X, plus RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6700 XT 12GB. Keep 16 GB of system RAM, Windows 10/11 64-bit, DirectX 12 and an SSD in the build. Because the target assumes upscaling, plan to test the game’s quality modes rather than budgeting on the assumption of native 1440p rendering.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Comparing only GPU names: Check CPU, RAM, OS, DirectX and SSD status as well.
  • Reading “1080p” or “1440p” as native: Both published targets include upscaling.
  • Assuming 16 GB of VRAM is required: Steam lists 16 GB as system RAM; the example GPUs list 6 GB, 8 GB or 12 GB of VRAM.
  • Guessing an install size: Steam has not published one in the requirements section.
  • Treating unofficial ray-tracing tiers as official: The current Steam page does not contain them.
  • Calling Steam Deck support confirmed: Developer comments about difficulty and accessibility are not certification.
  • Expecting a locked frame rate: Storefront targets are examples and do not cover every scene, preset or driver condition.

Release-date and requirements caveat

The current Steam page lists an October 28, 2026 release date and identifies S-GAME Studio as the developer. These are pre-release details. Requirements, supported features and performance guidance can change before launch or in subsequent updates, so check the listing again near release and read the final graphics options before purchasing hardware solely for this game.
