picconvert.dll is a Format Factory application DLL, not a Windows system file. If Windows says picconvert.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest fix is to reinstall the complete Format Factory installation rather than downloading the DLL separately.
Do not copy this file into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Do not use a DLL-cleaner utility or run regsvr32 simply because the filename ends in .dll.
Fix 1: Reinstall Format Factory from the official publisher
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely solution because picconvert.dll belongs to Format Factory and may need other files from the same release. A standalone replacement can have the wrong architecture, wrong build, or missing companion files.
- Close Format Factory.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- If you see FormatFactory.exe or another Format Factory process, select it and choose End task.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Format Factory.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it and choose Uninstall.
- If it is not listed, open Control Panel, select Programs and Features, select Format Factory, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Format Factory from the official publisher’s Format Factory download page. Avoid search-result download mirrors and DLL collection sites.
- Install the same architecture your application requires, using the installer’s default application directory.
- Restart Windows again, then launch Format Factory.
If the program starts normally, the repair is complete. If it still fails, check whether the error names another file, such as MSVCP, VCRUNTIME, or a Windows component. That may indicate a dependency rather than a missing picconvert.dll.

If the uninstaller leaves an old Format Factory directory behind, do not immediately delete it if it contains personal conversion settings or queued files. First confirm that you have what you need, then remove only the leftover application folder before reinstalling.
Where picconvert.dll normally belongs
Public binary-analysis records associate the file with paths such as:
%PROGRAMFILES%FormatFactoryPicConvert.dll
Older installations may use:
%PROGRAMFILES%FreeTimeFormatFactoryFFModulesPicConvert.dll
The exact path can differ between releases. The file is a Windows PE DLL, and at least one analyzed copy was 32-bit. That does not mean every Format Factory release has identical architecture, size, hash, or version metadata.
After reinstalling, you can check the application directory, but do not treat the presence of the DLL alone as proof that the installation is correct. Format Factory may also require related files in the same folder or module directory.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Antivirus software can quarantine or delete an application DLL. This is especially important if Format Factory worked previously and the error appeared immediately after a security scan or update.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving Format Factory,
PicConvert.dll, or the directory where Format Factory is installed. - Open the detection details and note the original file path and detection name.
- Do not restore the file solely because Format Factory reports that it is missing.
- If you believe the detection is incorrect, verify that Format Factory came from its official publisher and that the detected file was in the expected application directory.
- Reinstall Format Factory from the official source instead of restoring an unverified copy.
Microsoft explains how quarantine and restoration work in Protection history. Restoring a detected file can cause Defender to detect it again, so the warning should not be bypassed merely to make the error disappear.
A historical security analysis recorded a detection against one Format Factory PicConvert.dll, but that does not classify every copy as malware or prove that every detection is a false positive. Treat the specific file, path, installer source, and security result as the evidence.

If the DLL disappears again immediately after reinstalling, stop repeating the installation. Check Protection history and your other security software first.

A 32-bit Format Factory installation needs its matching 32-bit application files. A 64-bit Windows installation can run many 32-bit programs, so “I have 64-bit Windows” does not automatically mean that you need a 64-bit replacement DLL.
The official publisher lists a legacy Format Factory build for 32-bit Windows. The correct choice depends on the installed application and the Windows version, not on the filename alone.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Look at System type.
- Record whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
To check the installed application path:
- Right-click the Format Factory shortcut.
- Choose Properties.
- Select Open file location.
- Note whether the program is installed under a Format Factory directory and whether it uses an older FreeTime path.
Do not mix files from different Format Factory releases. If you installed a 32-bit build, reinstall that complete build. If you changed from an older release to a newer one, uninstall the old copy first so that old modules are not mixed with new executables.
Fix 4: Determine whether a dependency is actually missing
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that picconvert.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load it because a dependent DLL is missing or incompatible.

Look carefully at the full error:
- If it explicitly says
picconvert.dll was not found, repair the Format Factory installation first. - If it names
MSVCP,VCRUNTIME, or another Microsoft runtime file, repair or install the matching Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable page. - If it says the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or contains an error, suspect a corrupted, mismatched, incompletely extracted, or replaced binary.
- If it reports another application DLL, repair Format Factory rather than replacing only
picconvert.dll.
Install the architecture required by Format Factory. On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit application commonly needs the x86 runtime. Do not assume that picconvert.dll itself is a Visual C++ file. There is no verified evidence that it is part of the Visual C++ Redistributable.
If reinstalling does not identify the dependency, record the complete error and use a reputable dependency-analysis tool or the application publisher’s support channel. There is no universal public dependency list for every build of this DLL.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components only if Windows has broader problems
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore third-party application files such as picconvert.dll. Use them when other Windows features, system applications, or protected files are also failing.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Format Factory again.
Microsoft’s recommended order and explanation are documented in System File Checker and DISM guidance.
If both commands complete without finding problems but Format Factory still reports the DLL error, return to Fix 1. SFC is not a substitute for reinstalling the application.

Fix 6: Check Windows Features only when the error names a related component

Windows Features are not a normal source of picconvert.dll. Do not enable random features to replace it.
Check them only if the full error specifically mentions a Windows component or if another application also fails:

- Enable only that feature if it is clearly required.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
If the error names a Microsoft runtime instead, use the official Visual C++ instructions in Fix 4 rather than enabling unrelated Windows Features.
Fix 7: Update drivers only if the failure began after a driver change
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A graphics or media driver can affect conversion software, but a driver update is not the usual cause of a missing application DLL. Consider this step if Format Factory began failing immediately after a graphics, audio, storage, or chipset driver change, or if other multimedia programs are also unstable.

- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and Storage controllers as relevant.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver date and provider.
- Use Update Driver and allow Windows to search, or obtain the driver from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test Format Factory.
Do not uninstall devices at random. If the problem started after an update, the Roll Back Driver button may be appropriate when available.
If manually hunting through Device Manager and manufacturer pages leaves you unsure which of many drivers is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates; installation is handled by the full version, and a driver update is not a replacement for reinstalling Format Factory.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this file
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general missing-DLL installation command.
Running this is usually unhelpful:
regsvr32 picconvert.dll
If Windows reports that the entry point is missing, that does not prove the DLL is damaged. It usually means the file is not designed for self-registration. Only register it if the application’s official documentation explicitly instructs you to do so. Microsoft documents regsvr32 as a registry-component registration utility, not as a repair method for missing application files.
When System Restore is appropriate
Time needed: 20–40 minutes
Use System Restore only when the failure began after a recent installation, update, driver change, or other system modification and a clean Format Factory reinstall did not help.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore does not remove personal files, but it can undo installed programs, drivers, and system settings. Microsoft describes the process in its System Restore guidance.

Do not treat a single file size, hash, or version label as universal. Public records show that analyzed copies vary by release, and the publisher does not provide a universal standalone manifest for picconvert.dll.

- Your Windows 10 or Windows 11 version
- The Format Factory version and installation architecture
- The exact path where Windows expects or finds
picconvert.dll - Whether the file appears in Protection history
- Whether the problem began after an update, reinstall, or security scan
- Whether other Windows programs fail
- Whether the error names a dependent file such as
MSVCPorVCRUNTIME
If only one Windows user account is affected, test Format Factory from a new local profile. That can isolate profile damage, but it does not prove that picconvert.dll is profile-specific. If every account fails after a clean reinstall, the exact path and dependency error are more useful than repeatedly copying the DLL.
