Pickled Muckmaggot is a quest ingredient in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Defeat Disgraced Chef Lugoli in Sinner’s Road to obtain it, then deliver it to Loyal Mergwin in the Choral Chambers for the Great Taste of Pharloom wish. You need the Faydown Cloak to reach Lugoli.
How to get Pickled Muckmaggot
- Obtain the Faydown Cloak, the documented prerequisite for reaching Disgraced Chef Lugoli.
- Go to Sinner’s Road and defeat Lugoli. Pickled Muckmaggot drops when the boss is defeated.

What Pickled Muckmaggot is used for
It is one of five ingredients required for the Great Taste of Pharloom wish. Give it to Loyal Mergwin in the Choral Chambers as part of that wish. It is a quest deliverable, not a separate crafting material or a real-world food.
Mergwin’s in-game hint describes it as “the sacred treat revered and reviled for its intensity” and says it was a specialty of Lugoli, “long ago banished for culinary sacrilege.” The dialogue is recorded on the Hollow Knight Wiki’s Loyal Mergwin page.

What the name refers to
The game describes Pickled Muckmaggot as a “Pungent delicacy preserved in roach brine” and identifies it as the most famous creation of the disgraced chef Lugoli. The name refers to this fictional Silksong quest item, not an established food product.

Nintendo’s US store listing identifies Hollow Knight: Silksong as a digital edition for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of September 4, 2025. Nintendo’s publisher description promotes the game as featuring “over 200” foes and “over 40” legendary bosses; those are Nintendo’s promotional figures, not statistics about this item or its quest.
