pipppush.dll is a legacy Microsoft Picture It./Digital Image file, not a normal Windows, DirectX, or Visual C++ component. If Windows says it is missing or cannot load, repair or reinstall the Picture It application from its original installation media instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
The file is identified internally as PicturePusher Module and is associated with Microsoft’s discontinued Picture It. and Digital Image photo-editing software.
Software inventories associate pipppush.dll with these products:
- Microsoft Picture It. Photo 7.0
- Microsoft Picture It. Photo Premium 7.0
- Microsoft Digital Image Pro 7.0
- Microsoft Picture It. Express 7.0
The file alone cannot identify the exact edition installed on your computer. Other closely related releases may also contain it.
#1 Best Overall
Picture It. was consumer photo-editing software, not a current Windows feature. Microsoft described Picture It. Digital Image Pro 7.0 in its historical product announcement, available through Microsoft’s archive.
A genuine copy would normally be beside the old application, commonly in a folder similar to:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft Picture It. 7
That location is an example, not a guaranteed path. Do not assume that pipppush.dll belongs in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
There is no authoritative current Microsoft download page for pipppush.dll itself. The safe source is the complete Picture It. or Digital Image installer that originally installed the program.

These messages are commonly reported by third-party DLL indexes and should not be treated as Microsoft-confirmed diagnostic wording. Record the exact message and the name of the program displaying it before changing anything.
Fix 1: Identify the program that needs the file
First confirm that Picture It. or Digital Image is involved.
Find the affected executable
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, note the path in Target.
- Select Open File Location if that button is available.
- Look for a folder or executable named for Picture It., Digital Image, or Microsoft photo software.
If the error appears from a different program, do not assume it needs the Microsoft file. Check that program’s own installer and documentation.
Check the application directory
Search the program’s installation folder for pipppush.dll.
Finding the file there does not prove that it is healthy. A file outside the expected application directory, particularly one recently downloaded or moved manually, deserves extra caution. Do not replace it with a copy from an unknown source.

Fix 2: Repair or reinstall Picture It from legitimate media
This is the most likely working fix because the DLL belongs to the old application rather than to Windows.
Back up your Picture It project files before uninstalling anything. Depending on how the program was installed, projects may be stored in Documents, Pictures, or a custom folder.
Try the Windows repair option
- Press Windows+I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find Picture It., Digital Image, or the relevant Microsoft photo application.
- Select the three-dot menu, or select the program and choose Advanced options where available.
- Choose Repair if Windows provides that option.
- Start the application again.
If the error disappears, the installation was repaired. If the repair option is unavailable or the error remains, continue with a full reinstall.
Recommended Free Tools
Reinstall from the original installation source
- Find the original Picture It. or Digital Image CD and product media.
- If you have a verified archival copy, confirm that it is a complete installer from a legitimate source.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the old application and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Insert the CD or open the verified installer.
- Run the setup program.
- Install the same edition that you previously used.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the application from its newly installed shortcut.
Do not download only pipppush.dll. Reinstalling the parent application restores the DLL together with the matching executable files, configuration, libraries, and dependencies.
Microsoft’s Picture It. product manual can help identify the product family and installation context. Microsoft no longer provides a current standalone installer for these discontinued products.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security may have removed or quarantined the file. This is possible if the file was damaged, altered, or incorrectly detected.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for
pipppush.dllor the Picture It installation folder. - Expand a matching entry to see its action and location.
Restore the file only if all of the following are true:
- It came from your genuine Picture It installation media.
- The application installation is known to be legitimate.
- You have scanned the original media or installer.
- You understand the risk of allowing a quarantined file back onto the computer.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined item can expose the device if the file is malicious. Its Protection History guidance explains the available actions.
If you are uncertain, do not restore the item. Reinstall Picture It from trusted original media instead. After restoring a file, start the application and confirm whether the error is gone.

Fix 4: Run Windows repair tools only for wider system problems
pipppush.dll is not normally a protected Windows system file, so DISM and SFC are not the primary repair for this error. Use them when other Windows programs also fail, Windows components appear damaged, or the error started with broader system corruption.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and test Picture It.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMicrosoft recommends running DISM and System File Checker in this order. These commands repair protected Windows components. They do not reinstall a missing third-party application DLL.
Repeating SFC and DISM will not replace a missing Picture It installation. If both commands complete successfully but Picture It still reports the same error, return to Fix 2.
When manually running SFC and DISM, the difficult part is determining what changed and whether the repair affected the actual cause. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention, while its full version performs repairs; it is optional, and reinstalling Picture It remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Fix 5: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help if Picture It worked recently and the failure followed a driver installation, Windows change, security action, or other software installation.
- Press Windows+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the programs and drivers that may be removed.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish.
System Restore may remove programs installed after the selected restore point, but it does not normally remove personal documents. Microsoft explains the procedure in its System Restore guide.
If the error began after Windows Security quarantined the file, reinstalling from trusted media is usually safer than rolling back the entire system.
Fix 6: Check compatibility on Windows 10 and 11
Picture It. was designed for much older versions of Windows. Even with the correct DLL present, its installer, graphics components, permissions, or other 32-bit dependencies may not work correctly on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Microsoft Q&A discussions describe Picture It. as deprecated and not reliably compatible with current Windows versions. See Microsoft’s compatibility discussion.

- Used Book in Good Condition
You can test compatibility settings:
- Locate the Picture It executable.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the program.
Compatibility mode is an experiment, not a guarantee. If setup itself fails, try right-clicking the installer, selecting Properties → Compatibility, and then running it as administrator.
If the application remains unstable, use a supported modern photo application or run the old program inside a properly isolated virtual machine with access to your backed-up project files.

A display or imaging driver can cause an old photo application to fail after it has loaded, but a driver is not the normal source of pipppush.dll.
Check drivers only if you also see display corruption, crashes in other graphics programs, camera or scanner failures, or a recent driver change.

- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider, date, and status.
- Use Update driver only with a driver supplied through Windows Update or the device manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not uninstall a working driver merely because pipppush.dll is missing. Do not install a random Visual C++ package or graphics DLL as a guess. No evidence establishes that a current Visual C++ redistributable supplies this file.
Finding the right driver manually can mean comparing hardware IDs, package versions, and 32-bit versus 64-bit installers. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention, while driver installation is handled by its full version; it is optional and does not replace reinstalling Picture It.
Why random DLL downloads and regsvr32 are poor fixes
Avoid sites offering individual copies of pipppush.dll. An arbitrary file may be:
- Tampered with or bundled with malware
- From the wrong Picture It edition
- The wrong architecture
- Incompatible with the executable
- Missing other required dependencies
- Unusable because the original installer also needs registry or configuration data
Never copy an unverified DLL into System32 or SysWOW64. On 64-bit Windows, System32 is the native 64-bit directory and SysWOW64 is the 32-bit compatibility directory. Neither is automatically the correct location for an application DLL.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →regsvr32 is also generally inappropriate here. It registers DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer; it is not a general missing-DLL installer. Microsoft documents its purpose in the regsvr32 command reference.
Running a command such as this is unlikely to repair Picture It:
Best Value
regsvr32 pipppush.dll
It may produce an error because the file is not a self-registering component. Reinstall the parent application instead.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that you launched the newly installed Picture It executable, not an old shortcut pointing to another folder.
- Open the application directory and check whether the installer placed its files there.
- Review Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history again.
- Check Event Viewer by right-clicking Start, selecting Event Viewer, and reviewing Windows Logs → Application.
- Test the program from a clean Windows user profile.
- Try compatibility settings on both the installer and the application.
- Restore your projects from backup only after the program itself launches.
- Consider a virtual machine with an older supported Windows environment.
If the message changes to “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect a corrupt, mismatched, or incompatible binary. Do not keep trying different DLL copies.

Is pipppush.dll a Windows 11 file?
No current Windows component is established as the source of this file. It is associated with legacy Picture It./Digital Image software.
Does it belong to DirectX or Visual C++?
There is no evidence that pipppush.dll is a DirectX file, a Visual C++ runtime, or a .NET component. Install the parent Picture It application rather than guessing at runtime packages.
Which Picture It edition installed it?
Inventories associate it with Picture It. Photo 7.0, Photo Premium 7.0, Digital Image Pro 7.0, and Picture It. Express 7.0. The filename alone cannot identify the exact edition.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. An application DLL normally belongs with its application, and copying it into a Windows system directory can create security and compatibility problems.
Recommended Free Tools
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Available metadata identifies the known file as Win32, or 32-bit. Conflicting mirror metadata should not be used as proof that an x64 copy is valid. Do not copy versions into both system directories.
Can I fix it with System File Checker?
Only if Windows system corruption is also involved. SFC does not normally restore a missing file from a discontinued third-party application.
What is the safest fix?
Identify the Picture It or Digital Image installation, check whether security software quarantined the file, and repair or reinstall the complete application from legitimate original media.
