If Planet Coaster 2 keeps crashing on PS5, work through these checks from least disruptive to most disruptive: restart the console, update the game and system software, and check storage before trying Safe Mode or reinstalling. No single step is guaranteed to fix every crash. The game is available on PS5, but the official sources cited here do not establish one current cause for all crashes.
1. Restart the PS5
Open the PS5 power menu and choose Restart PS5. Let the console restart fully, then launch Planet Coaster 2 again. Restarting is one of PlayStation’s initial checks for problems starting a game.
2. Update PS5 system software
Check for a console update under Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Install any available update, then try the game again. PlayStation recommends checking that the console has the latest system software when troubleshooting game launch problems.
3. Check for a Planet Coaster 2 update
Highlight the game on the PS5 home screen, press the options button, and choose Check for Update. Install any update offered. Frontier has issued updates and hotfixes that addressed particular reported crashes, but an update is not proof that your specific crash will be resolved.

For example, Frontier’s January 21, 2025 hotfix announcement described fixes for reported situations involving closing information panels, downloading many Workshop blueprints, the Research screen, returning to the main menu, and opening Settings. Those were historical, specific fixes; they do not establish that these problems remain or explain a crash happening now.
4. Move the game to PS5 console storage
If Planet Coaster 2 is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal console storage and retest. PlayStation specifically recommends moving a PS5 game off USB extended storage when troubleshooting launch problems. This is a change to where the game is installed; it does not mean you need to buy storage.

5. Restore licenses
If the game will not launch or access behavior suggests an entitlement problem, try Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. This is a PlayStation-recommended launch check, but it is not an established fix for every crash that occurs after a park has loaded.
6. Fully power off to clear the console cache
Frontier’s console cache instructions advise a full power-off rather than Rest Mode: shut down the PlayStation, wait until its indicator light is completely off, unplug the power cable for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and start the console normally. The instructions appear in an article titled for Planet Coaster on console, not Planet Coaster 2, so treat this as general Frontier console guidance rather than a sequel-specific fix.

- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
7. Check ventilation and overheating
Make sure the PS5 has clear ventilation and is not positioned somewhere that may cause it to overheat. Frontier includes ventilation advice in its console support guidance. If the console itself reports overheating, treat that as a console hardware issue and follow PlayStation’s hardware support guidance rather than assuming the game alone is responsible.
8. Test a wired connection for online-related crashes
If the crash happens during online activity or a download, try a wired network connection instead of Wi-Fi and see whether the behavior changes. Frontier’s console guidance suggests wired networking because Wi-Fi may be inconsistent. This is a connection-related test, not a general remedy for crashes that happen offline.

9. Clear the cache or rebuild the database in Safe Mode
PlayStation includes Safe Mode cache and database options among its troubleshooting steps. Follow PlayStation’s official Safe Mode instructions, choose the relevant cache-clearing or database-rebuild option, and avoid selecting a system-software reinstall unless you have decided it is necessary. Safe Mode options are separate from deleting the game, and you should read the on-screen descriptions before confirming an action.

If the earlier checks do not help, delete the Planet Coaster 2 application and redownload or reinstall it. PlayStation and Frontier both include reinstalling among their troubleshooting guidance. Before deleting anything, understand whether your saved parks are backed up or synced. Delete the application, not saved data, unless you specifically intend to remove your saves.

If the crash continues
Frontier’s technical-support index lists a separate article for “Launch, crashing or performance issues with Planet Coaster 2 on Console.” Frontier Support is the appropriate place to check for sequel-specific guidance or report a repeatable game crash. The sources available here do not establish a particular current PS5 crash cause or a universal fix.
When contacting support, include the exact error code or message, what you were doing when the crash occurred, whether it happens in one park or multiple parks, and what changed just before it began. PlayStation also recommends giving support a detailed description and reproduction steps, with screenshots or video if possible.
Does a large park explain the crash?
Not necessarily. Frontier’s November 6, 2024 FAQ says the PS5 Complexity Meter reaches 100 when no additional buildings or rides may be placed; streamlining a park can bring the counter below that threshold. Frontier describes the meter as a guide to help keep players and guests entertained, not as a crash diagnosis. A full meter alone does not establish why the game crashed.
