Planet Zoo 2 is announced for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of 13 October 2026. Its store listings describe single-player play, plus a Franchise mode where players can trade animals and a Workshop for sharing community creations. Those features do not establish simultaneous co-op zoo-building. PC players should compare their full system against the published requirements; console players do not need to meet them.
When does Planet Zoo 2 come out?
Frontier Developments announced Planet Zoo 2 for 13 October 2026. Steam displayed that date and an upcoming unlock when its listing was reviewed on launch day. Because that information was captured on the release date, it does not confirm the game’s current availability or unlock status in every region. Check the store for your platform and territory for the live status. Frontier’s announcement and the Steam listing give the announced date.

Which platforms can you play it on?
The announced platforms are Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The PC specifications below apply to Windows computers only: a PS5 or Xbox player does not need a PC graphics card, processor, or amount of storage that matches those figures. The sources establish the named platforms, but do not provide a feature-by-feature comparison of their console versions or console-specific performance targets.

Does Planet Zoo 2 have multiplayer or co-op?
Do not treat animal trading or sharing zoo designs as proof of co-op. Steam lists Planet Zoo 2 as single-player. Epic says Franchise mode lets players trade animals with other players, and both store descriptions mention sharing or downloading community creations through Frontier Workshop across platforms. The official store descriptions cited here do not establish synchronous multiplayer in which people build or manage the same zoo together. Steam and the Epic Games Store describe the available features.
What the listed social features mean
- Single-player: Steam identifies this as a feature of the game. This is the relevant answer if you mean whether the listing presents a co-op campaign or shared live zoo-management mode.
- Franchise animal trading: Epic describes trading animals with other players. That is an exchange feature, not evidence that players are simultaneously operating one zoo.
- Frontier Workshop: The stores describe sharing and downloading community creations across platforms. This supports access to user-created content; it should not be confused with live co-op play.
If playing side by side with another person is essential, verify the specific mode and platform details in the current store description before purchasing. The cited official listings do not specify a shared-session or co-op zoo-building mode.

What are the PC system requirements?
The requirements below are for Windows PC. Minimum specifications describe the listed baseline, not a promise of a particular frame rate or graphics quality; no benchmark results are established by the cited sources. For a more comfortable starting point, compare your computer to the recommended tier rather than checking only whether the graphics card name appears to match.

How to compare your PC with the list
- Check Windows first. The minimum lists Windows 10 or 11; the recommended tier lists Windows 11. Frontier cautions that it cannot guarantee ongoing Windows 10 compatibility because Microsoft has ended support. Meeting the listed minimum OS version therefore does not remove that caveat.
- Compare the processor model. Match your CPU to one of the named Intel or AMD models in the tier you are assessing. A compatible graphics card alone is not enough to meet the complete specification.
- Check the graphics card and its VRAM. Both the model family and the stated video-memory amount matter. The listed minimum alternatives include 6 GB or 8 GB VRAM, while the recommended options range from 8 GB to 16 GB.
- Confirm memory, DirectX, and storage together. Both tiers list 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, and 40 GB of free storage. Frontier recommends an SSD; its support page does not describe that as an absolute minimum in the listed requirement.
- Use the lower tier as a threshold, not a performance guarantee. The available specifications do not state resolution, frame rate, graphics preset, or performance outcomes for each configuration. No specific PC can be promised to run at a particular quality from these figures alone.
What is different in Planet Zoo 2?
Frontier describes several additions centered on habitats and species: fully aquatic and flying species, aquariums, aviaries, and conservation-focused Wildlife Reserves. In a 28 May 2026 Xbox Wire feature, game director Gareth Hughes wrote: “New for Planet Zoo 2 are aquariums and aviaries, which have allowed us to add fully aquatic and flying species for the first time.” The feature is described in Xbox Wire’s trailer breakdown.
These are announced game features, not evidence of a particular species count beyond the separately stated Deluxe content. The available materials do not establish how every new habitat works in play or provide performance comparisons with the first game.

What comes with Standard and Deluxe?
Frontier says the Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with an upgrade pack containing six additional species and exclusive animal signs. That describes the added Deluxe content; the cited announcement does not provide a complete species list here. Prices, local edition names, preorder bonuses, and current availability may vary by store, region, and date, so review the listing for your own platform before checkout.

What to do if the PC version crashes or performs poorly
For a PC launch, crash, or performance problem, begin with Frontier’s game-specific support guidance rather than assuming that a general-purpose utility will fix it. Frontier’s support article, published on 25 September 2026, covers launch-crashing and performance issues and includes the PC requirements. Follow its current steps for your symptom: Frontier Support: launch crashing or performance issues.
- If the game will not launch, check the support article’s launch-specific instructions and compare your full PC configuration with the minimum requirements.
- If the game runs poorly, distinguish a requirements mismatch from an issue that needs a support troubleshooting step; the published requirements do not guarantee a particular frame rate.
- If a suggested fix depends on a specific configuration or symptom, follow the official instructions for that case instead of applying unrelated changes.
- If the store or support page has changed since the cited information was captured, use the current page for the latest requirements and steps.
Which version should you choose?
For a PC purchase, start by matching the full system rather than buying or upgrading around one component in isolation. A computer that meets the listed minimum is a different proposition from one that matches the recommended CPU and GPU tier, but neither listing gives a guaranteed frame rate or graphics preset. On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, the PC comparison does not apply; use your console’s storefront to confirm the current edition and availability.
For multiplayer expectations, decide whether animal trading and shared Workshop creations are enough. If your goal is to build or manage a zoo live with friends, the official descriptions cited here do not confirm that mode. For edition choice, the stated Deluxe addition is six extra species and exclusive animal signs; whether those are worth the difference depends on the current local price and your interest in that content.
