In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, plant materials can restore health, add cooking effects, help against gloom, or change how a fight unfolds. The examples below focus on plants and plant-like materials with uses and locations confirmed by Nintendo; they are not a complete inventory of every botanical item in the game. For a plant you already know, the Purah Pad’s Sensor+ can help you locate it.
What counts as a plant in this guide?
“Plant” is not a complete in-game category that can be reliably reconstructed from the sources available here. This guide uses the term for herbs, mushrooms, flowers, bulbs, and plant-like materials that Nintendo specifically discusses. It does not claim to list every edible fruit, mushroom, seed, or material, and it does not give a total plant count.

Nintendo says collectible materials can be identified by a slight sparkle. Materials may be gathered in different ways while exploring, including checking tree roots and treetops. Its advice is to collect food materials as you travel so you have ingredients available for recovery and cooking: Nintendo’s gathering tips.

Cooking is often more useful than eating an ingredient raw: Nintendo says cooked dishes restore more hearts, and ingredients described as having special effects can produce meals with those effects. These examples illustrate the principle, not a complete recipe list.

| Material or combination | Use | Location or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sundelion | Cook it into a meal that helps restore hearts damaged by gloom. | Nintendo says Sundelions are most commonly found on Sky Islands; this is a broad habitat, not an exclusive location. |
| Stamella Shroom + Stambulb | Nintendo’s example for a dish that restores stamina and hearts. | A recipe example, not the only way to gain those effects. |
| Spicy Pepper | Nintendo’s example for a dish that provides cold resistance and restores hearts. | A recipe example; no specific gathering location is established here. |
For the gloom-damaged-heart use of Sundelions, see Nintendo UK’s advanced tips. Nintendo’s Beginning Your Journey guide gives the cooking examples and explains that ingredients with special descriptors can create different effects.
Which plant-like materials are useful in a fight?
These materials serve different tactical roles. Nintendo’s examples are not all weapons in the same sense: some deal damage, while others create an opening or disrupt enemies.

- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
| Material | Combat effect | Location named by Nintendo |
|---|---|---|
| Bomb Flower | Explodes and damages nearby enemies, making it useful against a cluster. | Caves and the Depths. |
| Puffshroom | Creates a cloud that conceals Link; use the cover to approach from behind for a sneak attack. | The Depths. |
| Muddle Bud | Confuses enemies so they mistake friend for foe and fight one another. Nintendo suggests targeting the strongest enemy in a group. | The Depths. |
| Dazzlefruit | Creates a bright flash that blinds enemies; some may drop their weapons. | Near Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower. |
These effects and habitat examples come from Nintendo’s guide to beginning your journey. Its locations are useful starting points, not claims that an item appears only there.

- Open the Purah Pad’s map and select Sensor+. Choose a plant or item you want the sensor to track.
- Explore with the sensor active. Nintendo says Sensor+ alerts you when the selected creature, item, or plant is nearby.
- Check the surrounding terrain. Materials can appear in multiple settings; Nintendo’s collection advice includes looking at tree roots and treetops, while its specific examples above include caves, the Depths, and Sky Islands.
Sensor+ is the most general official method for tracking a known material. It is more dependable than treating a broad habitat mention as a precise farming route. See Nintendo’s guide for its Sensor+ and material-collection advice.

Is this a complete list of all plants?
No. Nintendo’s public guidance gives selected examples rather than a complete English-language taxonomy, and the Japanese secondary index Altema’s plant-material list is not enough to establish a complete English roster. Altema’s page was last updated January 10, 2024; its item names, effects, and location examples should be checked against the game for localized terminology and exact details. The guide therefore avoids an exhaustive count and precise farming routes that the cited material does not establish.
If you want to identify other entries, use the in-game inventory and Sensor+ to track known materials. Nintendo’s general guidance also notes that materials can have uses beyond cooking: fusing materials to weapons can increase power or produce combat effects, but that does not mean every plant can be fused or has a combat effect.
